The Offside 17 November @ 03:30 PM EST
With December fast-approaching, The Season is in the air. Christmas? Absolutely not. It's awards
season. The Argentine sensation known as Lionel Messi has already nabbed the Onze d'Or, a precursor
to the Ballon d'Or (with a heft more patriotism) which has predicted the BdO three times in the
last four years.

No TGIF during the International break, so it gives me a chance to go back to traditional blogging.
The subject for discussion this week is the vexed question of silverware at Arsenal football Club.
The persistent refrain of Arsenal MUST win something this season if the youth experiment is to be
hailed as a success is rather doing my head in.

Cristiano Ronaldo has given United fans more to be frustrated about after the World Player of
the Year stated his desire to see Manchester United's Wayne Rooney line up for Real Madrid. Ronaldo
joined Los Blancos from United over the summer in a world record breaking ÂŁ80 million, and the
former Red Devils believes that Rooney would flourish in Spain.

During the summer of 2006 the press predicted the downfall of Manchester United after our two
best players had seemingly fallen out during the World Cup.
Apparently there was no way they could both continue at the club and we were doomed.
When on the opening day of the season we beat Fulham 5-1 with Rooney and Ronaldo both scoring
and helping each other score, there were lots of disappointed people!

With the Ballon d'Or nominations finally releasing this weekend, the headlines have mostly been
devoted to the fact that world champions Italy have no representation whatsoever. But why blame the
press for paying excessive attention to an irrelevant detail? After all, the award itself is
destined to be heading Lionel Messi's way, which means very little is there to be talked about in
terms of debating the winner, right?

Beyond the nation's borders, Italian football has certainly faded into the background in recent
years. A devastating match-fixing scandal in 2006 bitterly overshadowed the country's World Cup
triumph that year while the domestic league has clearly become a one-horse race ever since.
Reigning champions Inter Milan have shown no signs of a slip up in the Serie A for the last three
seasons and that trend continued with their strong start to the current season as well.

A great majority of the football world has grown used to laughing off Arsene
Wenger's dramatic remarks over major incidents in recent years. This is precisely why the
Arsenal manager was largely ignored when he labeled the accusations over
Gunners striker Eduardo's recent "dive" against
Celtic as a "witch-hunt".

Nearly 35 years of history, a 23 match winning streak and 13K in the stands on a Friday night;
basically Portland are the anti-Red Bull (even though RBNY did manage a surprise win yesterday
despite Mac Kandji and Dane Richards best efforts to thwart it at the end by being unintelligent
glory-seekers and not taking the ball to the corner).

The dog days of summer have descended upon MLS. While both San Jose and Kansas City can
basically forget about postseason play, this game provided a glimpse into the future. And, not
surprisingly, neither team appears any closer to steadying the ship. San Jose scored to claim aÂ
1-0 victory in stoppage time, but neither team deserved the moniker "winner.

We would have said 'vomit-inducing' Liverpool striker (haha, he wishes) Ryan Babel is collaborating
(that's what urban artists do, right?) with rapper Sway on his new album. The Dutchman's previous
attempts at rocking the mic have made him a YouTube sensation, but he has carried on unperturbed.
Sway said: "He's actually on the song with me [.

Now that Man City have hit the big time there was little need to employ Mr. Vassell in any
capacity he was sold to Turkish side AnkaragĂĽcĂĽ (I haven't got a clue how to say it either) and
you know what...he's only gone and scored a goal. If you look at the former Aston Villa man's face
he actually looks genuinely surprised to have scored, which given he is a professional footballer
who's job it is to score, is a little worrying, perhaps he'll get used to this sensation, but we
doubt it!

After the heartbreak of relegation; after a summer of uncertainty; after all the pessimism,
anger and frustration; after all of this, the run up to the Sheffield United game brought one thing
back. It brought back anticipation. It brought back that tingle of excitement. It brought back that

If gymnasts as young as twelve or thirteen can compete in their senior national squads what
stops a 12 year old child from playing professional soccer? Probably the fact that musculoskeletal
maturity sets in at age 18 and peaks at 25 to 30 years of age. Having players tackling a player so
young can result in serious injuries.

football more as a well paid hobby than a profession.

Bo didn't sweat it though, and returned to Spain yesterday for the children's Nike Camp.

Football is a funny game - this is the sport where anything, and I mean

become as anonymous as he is nowadays.
