The story that played out at PPL Park on Wednesday night was depressingly similar to the story that has been on display all season for the Chicago Fire. The Fire offense was missing a beginning, middle and end, so it was only a matter of time before the Philadelphia Union, no less feeble in attack than the Fire, would find the goal that would propel them to their second US Open Cup Final in as many years.
Despite extending their unbeaten home streak to 20 games, United has had to come from behind in past 3 home games
There are two ways to look at the last three home games for D.C. United. In games against Orlando City, the Philadelphia Union, and the Chicago Fire, the Black-and-Red have picked up a maximum nine points.
DC United's Chris Rolfe (18) keeps the ball away from Philadelphia's Vincent Nogueira during the second half of their team's match at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. United defeated the Union 2-1 with an 85th minute penalty kick goal from Chris Rolfe. Photo: Martin Fernandez.
Chris Rolfe converted a penalty in the 85th minute to give the Black-and-Red all three points
D.C. United looked set to run their winless streak to four games on Saturday night, in their tilt against the Philadelphia Union, after falling behind early to Sebastian Le Toux's 5th minute goal. But Chris Pontius' first half equalizer and Chris Rolfe's late penalty saw United to a 2-1 win over the I-95 rivals.
MLS Officials gave out their Fair Play Awards today and the Philadelphia Union won.
The Philadelphia Union earned an award for their fair play on and off the field by MLS officials. The award goes to the team that overall shows the most sportsmanlike conduct during the course of the season.
With less than one-and-a-half games under his belt and his team in the thick of a potential make-or-break clash with the New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Union rookie Pedro Ribeiro played hero.
Edu, saying all the right things, again. USMNT news ahead of tonight's friendly. FIFA bans Barcelona from participating in two transfer windows. More news.
MLS returns this weekend for the 2013 season. Sporting KC and Philadelphia get the honor of being the teams that actually kick the season off, with the first game on Saturday. The two teams are set to kick off at 3pm Central Time at PPL Park.
The Union handed Kansas City their worst loss of the season last year when Sporting visited the City of Brotherly Love.
Buy low, sell high. It might be the oldest rule in business.
So if Philadelphia Union was ever going to sell Sebastien Le Toux, now's the time.
At 28, Le Toux is in his prime. He may never be worth more than he is right now.
Bolton has never needed to buy good players for bargain prices more than right now, as they
desperately try to avoid a relegation that could devastate the club financially.

MLS has already announced its award finalists for the 2010 season and throughout the month will
be slowly unveiling the winners of each award (congratulations Andy Najar and Donovan Ricketts).Â
On November 15, MLS will announce the Best XI for the year, and few things get soccer fans as
excited as picking out the best players for an event or season.
Every season it seems like D.C. United is dealing with a slew of early season injuries, and this year is no different. Steve Birnbaum and Patrick Nyarko are almost definitely out, with Nick DeLeon a question mark and Patrick Mullins unlikely to go the full 90 minutes.
A new formation. A new lineup. A new commitment to defense and counterattacking. How the Union went from wide to long and stole a win.
The Union jump started the 2nd half of their season with a comfortable 3-1 road win over their New England rival. Sebastian Le Toux continued his recent resurgence with a brace and Danny Cruz sent home the third goal with an impressive strike.
In any sport, a championship season depends on getting some breaks at the right times. Â Some of
those breaks occur in the offseason, when the current season's roster is composed of trades
scrutinized by the media as well as those that fly under the radar. Â The trade of Jeff Larentowicz
to the Rapids was the former, one noted by the press.
Herbers scores, Fernandes impresses as the Union fall to the Chicago Fire
The Philadelphia Union continued their somewhat frustrating preseason with a 4-2 loss to the Chicago Fire earlier today from Clearwater, Florida. Chicago took the lead early after a Vincent Nogueira handball, which was a less than ideal start for a big name starter for the Union.

As we anxiously await what should be riveting second legs of the MLS Conference Semifinals, the MLS
awards are beginning to be doled out. Donovan Ricketts of the LA Galaxy has earned top honors as
the league's finest goalkeeper, and "Will he play for the US or won't he" Honduran-born sensation
Andy Najar has captured a well-deserved rookie of the year award.
The Union scored two goals in Week 27, one from McInerney and one from Le Toux, and both have
been nominated for goal of the week. Cast your vote here. And be quick about it. Voting ends
Thursday at midnight and, as of this writing, Steve Zakuani's goal is the leader.
David Beckham says he is "looking forward to the passion of the Philadelphia fans and I know
they all won't be shouting for me.
Wow, MLS is getting better and better. Some great goals scored this week! My vote goes to
Philly's Le Toux. His touch and finish was class. He made that look easy and it's not easy to
make it look easy.
The Philadelphia Union are a playoff caliber team. It's true. The league's most valuable player
(official or not), two of the most exciting young offensive prospects in MLS, An endless supply of
young, talented midfielders, a driven coach, and an assistant coach who made his name as a player
development guru.
And we're back! It's matchday, once again, @The Cathedral of Football, Red Bull Arena (built by
Makita). Today's opponent is Red Bulls killer Seattle (4:00pm ET, ESPN, match notes here).
It's a new-look Red Bulls team this week, with the club acquiring forward Sebastien LeToux and
veteran goalkeeper Bill Gaudette via trades.
Out Goes Dane, In Comes SebaThe New York Red Bulls went trade happy on Friday, concluding a
pair of deals to bolster their lineup for the second half of the season. By far the biggest move of
the day was the trade of speedy veteran Dane Richards for the much less speedy but arguably far
more productive Sebastian Le Toux (yes, that Sebastian Le Toux).
New season. New faces. New roles. New tactics. As we move ever loser to the start of the
2011 season, the PSP takes a look possible tactical formations the Union might employ. Today, Adam
argues that last season's 4-2-2-2 ought to become a 4-1-3-2 formation to take advantage of the
team's wealth of defensive minded midfielders.
Editor's note: Over the next week, PSP contributors will be posting what we're calling
"raves" about some of our favorite Philadelphia players. They need not be the team's best players,
but they're guys we like. You heard plenty of rants when they were losing. Here are the raves,
starting with Adam's about Sebastien Le Toux.
Prior to the MLS Cup Final on Sunday, Don Garber held court today to discuss the good, the bad,
and the future of MLS. Much of what he said is in no way surprising, but he did shed some light
on some hot topics in the American soccer world -
Reserve League and Youth Development: MLS is seriously investing in youth and
making it easier for clubs to develop their own players beginning next season.
Let's start today off with a bang: Eric Wynalda has been named Director of International
Operations for Mexican Segunda division side Murcielagos (that's the third division in Mexico).
Wynalda will scout players and try to facilitate player exchanges that will bring the talent to
Murcielagos that will move them up to the top.
How the Union's Front Office makes personnel decisions is a murky mess, so we thought the fans could fill what appears to be a major void. Over the course of the MLS playoffs we'll look at all of the Union's key players and decide who should stay and who should go. Who do fans most want to see stay?
The Union sent home an unhappy New York Cosmos side and advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup with a 2-1 extra time win
At the least the weather was beautiful. In an ugly game marred by 5 yellow cards and 5 ejections, the Union outclassed the New York Cosmos and erased their dream of the CONCACAF Champions League with a 2-1 extra time win.
