Diego Forlan has been one of the brightest stars at the World Cup. The former
Manchester United and Villarreal man, who now plays for Atletico Madrid, led Uruguay to a deep run
in South Africa. He made comments after the match against the Netherlands to the online portal,
Ovacion, of the Montevideo newspaper, El Pais.
Uruguay has arrived at the semi-final stage of the World Cup for the first time since 1970. They
are the last hope of South America after the early exits of favorites, Argentina and Brazil.
Uruguay is a small but very decorated footballing nation. They hosted and won the first World Cup
in 1930.
1. Wow! What a pulsating, open, end-to-end match. These two teams showed that you can entertain and
progress in the World Cup. A few other teams would do well to take notice. 2. It is not very often
that a player sent-off in a World Cup quarter-final become a national hero, but I reckon Luis
Suarez [.
It was not a quality match. Surely not. What it was, it was a competitive match. Ghana played
without fear and got the opening goal. Uruguay then stepped up their game and through the excellent
Diego Forlan, they got their coveted goal. Once both teams were tied at 1-1, it was a tense match
all the way.

(Palermo/Italy), Jorge Martinez (Catania/Italy) Uruguay will be competing against South Africa,
France, and Mexico in the first round after drawing Group A.

Its hard to believe but the 2010 FIFA World Cup is less than two weeks away. We know our roster
here in the US and other counties have released their rosters as well. Time to get excited if you
aren't already.
Geoff Reid and I will be going through each group to give you a preview of the tournament.
Montevideo, Uruguay was the site of raucous celebrations as the Charruas drew the Ticos at the
Centenario but thanks to their away win at Estadio Saprissa on November 14th clinched passage to
the 2010 World Cup on goal aggregate.
Sebastian Abreu lost his markers after Diego Scotti centered his cross, to head the ball home
past Keylor Navas to put the Uruguayans ahead but the Ticos equalized minutes later with Fernando
Muslera diving to the left to get a hand on Alvaro Saborio's shot but unable in the end to keep it
out of the back of the net.
Image via Wikipedia The Russians would be kicking themselves for not completing the match on
Saturday as a shocker allowed Slovenia to qualify for South Africa at Russia's expense. The Russian
team had a one goal advantage but squandered, missed and ultimately lost everything at the hands of
the lesser favoured opponents.
If 17 clubs in seven different countries doesn't say it all, Sebastian Abreu proved he was crazy
when he chipped the keeper up the middle to send his team to the semi-finals. You either have to
have some serious nerve or be completely crazy to do something like that.
With Ajax forward Luis Suarez suspended for the clash in Cape Town following his
widely-condemned, goal-line handball in the last minute of extra time against the Africans, Abreu
could be in line for a place in coach Oscar Tabarez's team.
All I can say after this morning's semi-final is that Wes Sneijder will need to have a pretty awful
first half of the season with Inter in 2010/11 to avoid being named FIFA World Player of the
Year.
Even against a defensive and under-strength Uruguay, the Dutch needed someone to step up and win
the game for them, given the unexpected failure of Arjen Robben to enforce much penetration.
What a fantastic quartet of Last Eight matches. They had everything - shocks,
drama, red cards, controversy, goals, own goals, penalty's, penalty misses, penalty shootouts. And
after all the talk of the South American countries dominating this World Cup (even predictions of
the semi finals being an all Latin affair) the semi final stage has a very European
flavour.
First there was the Sports Illustrated jinx, then came the Am I Collective mural curse, and now
comes the World Cup Blog quiz spell. Everybody's doomed.
The rules stated each player was to be included on their country's squad at the time, but each
player seemed a pretty decent bet to make their squad.
Eddie Johnson has not found much playing time with Fulham since returning to the club from a
loan-spell with Cardiff City earlier this year, and in order to find minutes at the club level he
might find himself in Greece.
According to this report out of Greece, Johnson is being tracked by Greek club Aris Salonika,
who hope to land the American international on a loan.
Eddie Johnson has played in just two league matches for Fulham since returning from a loan
spell with Cardiff City earlier this year, and Johnson might find himself loaned out again this
winter in order to find minutes, only this time he might move to Greece.
According to this report out of Greece, Johnson is being tracked by Greek club Aris
Salonika.

"porque Macri llegó a Boca a riverizarlo. Entró el sushi", dice
