INTERVIEW: Times’ Columnist On ABUs, Da Silvas and Referee Complaints

Republik Of Mancunia 12 November @ 05:00 AM EST

The Times columnist and Spiked magazine editor, Mick Hume, has taken some time out of his busy schedule to speak to RoM.

Scott the Red: How long have you been following United?
Mick Hume: My whole life since I was seven anyway, in 1967. I am the stereotypical Surrey Red, from the suburbs where there was no professional football.

State of the Club - On the Abyss and Looking Down

We want Rapidman 06 November @ 11:18 AM EST
51 responses to Jeff Plush's letter to fans on the Rapids' blog as of 10am November 5. It shows there are some passionate fans out there. Not that I ever had any doubt about that. What I do have doubts over are the very future of this club and here's why.
I have never really understood why sports trophies are given to the owners of clubs when they win championships. Click to continue reading...

Sunday Chivas USA-Galaxy Playoff Gameday

100 Percent Soccer 01 November @ 11:15 AM EST

This is the game Southern California MLS fans have long awaited.

I'd like to say there's a buzz in the air, a sense of anticipation and tension and plenty of concrete expressions of the rivalry that have temporarily divided friends and families.

I'd like to say that, but it wouldn't be true.

Real Madrid shocked by minnows

La Liga Report 28 October @ 09:00 AM EST

Real Madrid manager Manuel Pellegrini is clinging to his job after one of the most humiliating defeats in the club's history. Real were beaten 4-0 in the Spanish Cup by a third division side.

Having spent more money in one pre-season than any club in history, Real were expected to hammer minnows Alcorcon in the first leg of the fourth round of the cup.

FC Dallas parts ways with GM Michael Hitchcock

Soccer By Ives 27 October @ 04:18 PM EST

With seven teams now finished the regular season and now playoffs to plan for, the attention turns to 2010. That can include a myriad of things -- from a new stadium to a brand new coach. FC Dallas, who ended the season one win away from the playoffs, didn't do enough to save General Manager Michael Hithcock's job, as the club parted ways with him today.

Brisbane 0 v Central Coast 3

A seat at the A-League 17 October @ 07:52 AM EST
Bob Malcolm and Craig Moore will not play next week. Certainly in the case of Malcolm that is a very good thing. He may be the worse import the A-League has had. Robbie Slater described his work as the worst defending he had seen in the A-League. He caused the first 2 goals. The first bounced off him to the Mariners (2nd time in two weeks) and the 2nd he decided not to tackle. Click to continue reading...

Ferguson joins fight against cancer

Red Rants 15 October @ 04:40 PM EST

I was contacted by the folks at Killing Cancer. A charity to help promote the use and development of a little known cancer treatment PDT.

The club has also been involved in this and will send out brochures to season ticket holders. But either case, it's always better to reach out to a wider, more global audience as well.

Galaxy Close Upper Deck at HDC for Playoffs

100 Percent Soccer 08 October @ 03:50 PM EST

The Galaxy won't sell tickets to the upper deck at Carson's Home Depot Center for its first and perhaps only playoff game this year at the stadium (date and opponent TBD), the first time the club has done that since moving there in 2003.

Of course, that's slightly misleading because the Galaxy haven't made the playoffs in the last three seasons.

Season Ticket Holder? Go somewhere else.

The Offside - Kansas City Wizards 22 September @ 01:48 PM EST

I caught this story from one of the Big Soccer forums and thought it was worth looking into. I've always been a big supporter of a team's loyalty to its fans, regardless of the sport and I hate it when they get screwed.

In this era where the MLS struggles to grow its fan base; where we can stay home and watch superb soccer on 4 different channels; and where the only way that soccer as a sports league will survive in this country is with the passion of its fans, teams need to be very careful on how they treat those who visit their stadiums.

Livorno's Alessandro Diamanti really wanted a move to West Ham. I mean, really really wanted a move to West Ham. So much so that things like dignity and not acting like a child who isn't allowed to have the Jonas Brother action figure they want no longer mattered. Is ESPN Right Not to Push MLS on EPL Viewers?

A More Splendid Life 19 August @ 12:18 PM EST
Kartik Krishnaiyer believes ESPN missed a big opportunity by not pushing MLS telecasts during their early morning Premier League broadcasts:
Does ESPN simply assume that viewers of the Premier League and La Liga will not watch MLS so they do not waste their time promoting it? Or is this a tacit admission that MLS has maxed out as far as viewers in its current form, and the network is more concerned about building the brand of international football entering a World Cup year?

"Real" Greed Makes MLSE Kaka

the yorkies 06 August @ 08:30 PM EST
To brand Friday night's friendly against Real Madrid as a negative would be an ignorant thing to do. To imagine that MLSE brought the Nu-Galacticos here to further the "beautiful game" in Toronto would be a far more ignorant line of thought. The fact that our local squad, comparable in stature with a second division European club, gets to test their skills against the reserves of one of the world's Top 5 clubs is great in theory. MLS Rumors 05 August @ 11:47 AM EST
Much has been made of the overwhelming success of Toronto FC and Seattle Sounders FC.
Toronto FC in year three is a maturing club but it is clear that some things have become a fixture. The sold out crowds at BMO Field, the long lines at concessions, the beer garden as a distraction for casual fans, causing empty seats at sold out games and the "make money fast" philosophy of Toronto FC owner/operator, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. Kenny Cooper Leaving FCD for 1860 Munich

Ginge Talks The Footy 31 July @ 10:21 AM EST
This email went out to FC Dallas Season Ticket Holders this morning confirming the transfer of Kenny Cooper to 1860 Munich. No doubt this won't be a popular move with the already dwindling FC Dallas fan base. What they all need to realize (and many do) is that Cooper would have been allowed to negotiate a new contract with another club starting in January 2010 and then would have left on a free transfer in January of 2011.
