The FIFA World Cup 2010 welcomes Chile to South Africa after they qualified in an impressive second place. Great Serie A Games: Roma-Inter 1998/99

The Offside: Italy 04 November @ 03:10 PM EST

Roma-Inter from May of 1999 is another highly entertaining game from one of the most entertaining Serie A seasons of all time. The 1998-99 season had 3 leaders of the table (for the first part of the season it was Fiorentina, who were winter champions but were then hurt by the injury of Batistuta, then Lazio, who looked on their way to the Scudetto but fell off form towards the end, and then Milan who surprised everyone and stole the Scudetto on the last day).

Napoli party like it’s 1988

SoccerLens 02 November @ 03:40 AM EST

The last time Napoli won at the Olimpico in Turin against Juventus was on a cold November day in 1988. Diego Maradona and Ciro Ferrara were wearing Azzurro, as Napoli romped their way to a famous 5-3 victory that is still spoken about today in the unofficial capital of southern Italy.

Fabio Cannavaro, another of Napoli's favourite sons, wasn't yet old enough to play for the first team then.

e pensare che ieri sera dovevo lavorare

Juventus Blogger's Corner 01 November @ 05:40 AM EST

Pro Vercelli: The Boneyard, Part II

The Run of Play - Soccer in Style 01 October @ 03:29 PM EST

Before the climax, the anticlimax. Battered beyond the point of collapse by Roma's thug tactics, we crawled toward the end of the league season leaving bloody handprints all over the linoleum. If we won just one of our two remaining matches against Atalanta and Bologna, 16th and 14th in Serie A we'd win the title, but we were in no shape to practice, much less to play a competitive game.

Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 6

The Offside: Italy 28 September @ 03:54 PM EST

Sampdoria are top of the table alone for the first time in 18 years. A week ago I wrote an article saying that Sampdoria could be the surprise of the season, and right now that hypothesis is still holding up. While it's almost impossible for them to win the scudetto and considering the fact that Gigi Del Neri's teams usually suffer a drop in form after the winter break, they should be challenging for a spot in Europe next season, whether that be Europa League or Champions League that remains to be seen.

Antonio Cassano – The People’s Player

Premiership Talk Blog 28 September @ 12:55 AM EST

Antonio Cassano has reinvented himself. Not only has he changed his physical approach by losing weight, he has changed his mental approach too, becoming not only more mature, but also a leader. He is now someone who visits hospitals and gives signed shirts to sick children. He is now someone who can carry a team on his back, provide assists for his teammates, and entertain the crowd.

Lessons Learned from Giornata 4

Serie A Talk 21 September @ 04:38 PM EST

For those who spent Saturday and Sunday away from the television and internet, or were too busy watching the Manchester Derby, here are some lessons we have learned (or in some cases relearned) from this past weekend's Serie A action:

Gianluigi Buffon is the key for a Juve scudetto: Although he has some mileage between his numerous Serie A and international matches, and the Juventus attack is quite good, the 2-0 Juventus win over Livorno shows that Buffon still dominates matches for his team.

Can Sampdoria be the surprise of the season?

Since there is a mid-week round this Wednesday, I'll get a super Weekend Round-up post up on Thursday. Kaka Still Best Player In The World

Soccer Tickets Online 18 September @ 06:20 AM EST

I know that that is a very bold statement but here's why I think Kaka is still the best. First of, all as a Milan fan, I felt bad that we had to sell our star player just because the club was experiencing serious debts. In my opinion, that should have never been a reason.

I think Mr.

Will the ‘Real’ Milan please stand up?

The latest Serie A season is now three games in and although it is of course too early to make any firm predictions, some clear markers have already been laid down. Before the close of the window it was Juventus who took the lead as the big spenders in Italy, bringing in a number of players to strengthen the squad, not least of all the Brazilian Diego from Werder Bremen for £21.

Milan vs. Inter

Could the Derby della Madonnina, the first big derby of the 09-10 season in any European league, live up to the hype? Inter came into the game favorites to win the scudetto after mostly adding to the squad that has won the Serie A four years running. AC Milan did not add much in the offseason, and suffered the huge losses of Carlo Ancelotti, Paolo Maldini and Kaka.

The club maybe able to complete its remarkable turnaround since its return to Serie A in 2007 by challenging Inter for the Scudetto this year. If they win, it will be in no small part to their Brazilian imports, especially Diego.

Inter Milan mauls AC Milan, 4-0

The Milan Derby wasn't much of a contest on Saturday as Inter Milan shredded AC Milan's defense in a first-half display of dominance that has Inter talking another Scudetto and AC Milan fans wondering if their team is just too old.

Inter's 4-0 win, driven by beautiful goals by Thiago Motta and Maicon, will serve notice that Jose Mourinho's men are ready to be a serious challenger to the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United for the European title.
