Peter Wilt’s Top 20 MLS Stadia (Part II)

Pitch Invasion 18 November @ 01:03 PM EST

Last week I wrote about the bottom half of my personal top 20 stadia (out of 31 total) in MLS history. This week I share with you my top 10.  My b0ttom seven were all larger stadia with capacities of 30,000+ and the next three were each smaller stadia. Today's list reveals eight smaller soccercentric stadia and two of the jumbo variety.

STEVE CRONIN!

The DCenters 18 October @ 10:08 AM EST
D.C. United 1: 0 Columbus Crew
Six Word Novel Recap A decent team, with terrible supporters.
Let me just start by saying that Steve Cronin impressed the hell out of me last night. He played confidently, and he did not hesitate to come off of his line or even out of the box. At one point last night, he ran almost to the corner flag to shield a Crew player off the ball until it ran out for a goal kick. Click to continue reading...

What are your favorite tailgate recipes?

Fighting Talker 18 September @ 09:16 AM EST
For some years now, DC United's Screaming Eagles and Barra Brava have set the standard for pre-game tailgating in MLS.
As a DC fan this season, I've learned to appreciate the "smaller things" in soccer my soccer experience as opposed to actual goals, talent, or even effort out of my home town team. Click to continue reading...

Open Cup final: DCU 1 - Sounders FC 2

Behind the Badge 02 September @ 10:16 PM EST

It's tough to feel anything but disappointment in the result, but the one positive tonight was the team's supporters - La Barra Brava, Screaming Eagles, La Norte and everyone else at the stadium absolutely brought it. The last ten minutes of the game was one of the most electric atmospheres I've seen at RFK.

Rare sighting: Open Cup hype

The Netminder 01 September @ 12:48 PM EST
The Netminder hasn't taken a scientific survey, but here's a wild guess -- most U.S. Open Cup finals haven't had drive-time radio DJs exhorting listeners to get out and stand up for their team and city.
Most U.S. Open Cup finals haven't had rallies, pub tours and viral videos with a local baseball player and the local NHL owner. Click to continue reading...

Look What Came In the Mail

The Offside - LA Galaxy 18 August @ 07:32 PM EST

Awwww yeahhhhh.

I finally get to see the Galaxy play live after years of having season tickets in LA. So I'll get to take photos (they won't be great, but I'll share the best ones) and report on the game as a fan in the stands.

The only "issue," I guess, is that I'm going to be smack dab in the middle of the Screaming Eagles/Barra Brava.

DCUMD 11 August @ 08:07 PM EST

This just in! For the US/Mexico match tomorrow afternoon, I will be attending the Screaming Eagles viewing party at the official DC bar for US Soccer, the Pour House (319 Pennsylvania Ave SE). I've got class at 6:30 that night though, so I'll be doing my best to keep it to a two-drink maximum, regardless of the outcome of the match.

Post Game: DCU 3 Colorado 1

The Offside - DC United 18 July @ 10:16 PM EST

Well, the whole two half things has never been more apt. I don't know what Tommy said to the team in the locker room, but it worked something special.

The first half was honestly the worst 45 minutes of soccer I've ever seen. I'm counting Screaming Eagles pickup games in that assertion.

Has Soccer Arrived in the USA?

Road to 2010 World Cup Final 29 June @ 01:27 PM EST
Ok, so the United States gave Brazil all it could handle in the 2009 Confederations Cup final, falling to the 5-time World Cup champions, 3-2.
But what does it really mean?

For those of you in the know, the Barra Brava and Screaming Eagles spearheaded a march through D.C. to keep United in D.C. Estimates have the crowd at between 500 and 1,000, but with those sort of events it's hard to say exactly. The video below is courtesy of D.C. United.

United Supporters Prepare To March

MLS Daily 08 May @ 02:38 PM EST
by Jason Davis - Match Fit USA
Tomorrow in Washington, D.C., supporters of DC United will gather in a park a few miles from RFK Stadium. Armed with signs, songs, and a collective birthed from frustration and fear, they will march. They will march because they feel they have no other choice; their beloved local club, as much an institution as can exist in a fourteen year-old league, is in jeopardy. Click to continue reading...

MLS Matchday Six

Soccer By Ives 24 April @ 02:38 PM EST

There have already been two games played this week, but MLS Matchday Six gets into full swing on Saturday with some very good intra-conference match-ups.

The marquee match-up this weekend pits the Chicago Fire against the Columbus Crew. Yes, I know, the Crew hasn't won a game yet, but Columbus is coming off a bye week and was playing better before the bye.

Post Game: DC United 1, Chicago Fire 1

The Offside - DC United 29 March @ 09:47 AM EST
Like kissing your sister. DC came out and dominated the first half, scored their goal, and went into halftime with a lead. They came back out a different team, and were hurt by a mistake by backup keeper, Josh Wicks. Sloppy passing, poor shot selection, and questionable decisions by DC players led to the draw and [. Greek Riots, Original 21 and AEK

AEK Archives 27 February @ 11:51 AM EST
All AEK fans, both in Greece and in the diaspora, love football.  For most fans, its just that, nothing more.  Many of us, however, bot at live games and when watching on television or over the internet, also entertain a passing interest in our team's ultras, the organized fans, particularly the ones that seem to [. Booked for Dissent 12 February @ 10:24 AM EST

Last night at The Globe, I shared a table with two Hispanic men who were rooting for Mexico. I naturally assumed they were Mexican, even though they didn't seem too beaten up by the way they were playing. But after the game, the fourth person at our table and I were talking to them a little bit more, and they said they were from Puerto Rico.

DC United mention on Deadspin

The DCenters 07 November @ 12:17 PM EST
