In case you missed the goal of the World Cup playoffs. Here it is. Antar Yahia's screamer in
Sudan.
Relive the goal. Relive the celebrations. Be in no doubt: This is for 1982. This is for the players
with the peppery hair and tears in their eyes. This is for the players who were robbed.

Here we find ourselves slap bang in the middle of another damn international break, only this
one is even more torrid than others as there are barely any meaningful internationals to hold our
attention.

With 11:29 left to play in the first half and after dominating most of the game, the Simley
Spartans were fouled in the Austin penalty box and a spot kick ensued. Senior forward Ben Royce

What a shocking couple of weeks it had been for the Catalans.
They have torn through all and sundry in La Liga up until their hosting of Almeria at the Camp
Nou on October 4th. They may have come away with the result but it's a sign of the times that
ONLY a 1-0 win for Barcelona is considered a bad performance.

Today, October 25th, is the fifteenth anniversary of the second and most famous of the three
appearances of Brian Potter's senior football career, and this site has very kindly indulged me by
allowing me to write a tribute to the great man. You've almost certainly never heard of him, and
mention of his name usually makes people think of Peter Kay, but no, it's not that one.

1. Black DogWriting this crap can have an effect on the soul. It's a sorry state of affairs when the highlight
of the season thus far has been a riot.
There has been precious little to cheer. Any cause célèbre (Cole's screamer against tottenham)
has swiftly been negated (Cole's mesmeric through-ball to Defoe), and the only home win, albeit
against Millwall, was a defeat until the 87th minute.

These bad boys may have a silly name, a mediocre design and a synthetic leather that mimics
kangaroo leather, but if they can assist in 4 goals and even score a screamer on debut, then surely
Nike have done something right again! Dammit, those guys are never wrong!... psst. Puma ...

The goals from the seventh round of the 2009 Torneo Apertura are online now, and they include some
crackers. Watch out in particular for Pablo Toranzo's screamer for Huracán against Racing, and
Juan Román Riquelme's equaliser for Boca against Vélez which was a far better goal than the
improbable 40-yard header Martín Palermo scored [.

Beşiktaş would travel up to the cold confines of Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium. Looking to rebound
from a disappointing loss to Manchester United in match day 1 of the UEFA Champions League, the
Black Eagles needed some sort of spark to rejuvenate their Champions League campaign. The question
was which Beşiktaş would show up, the league version, or the team that gave Manchester United a
run for their money before losing?

Some nice goals this week. We're still very early into the season, but two possible goal of the
year candidates were scored this weekend. Samuel Eto'o's strike vs. Parma and
Giandomenico Mesto's screamer vs. Napoli are joys to behold. Goals of the week
after the jump.

Hamburg SV maintain their great start to the season with a convincing
3-1 win over Stuttgart, New signing Eljero Elia, fresh from his
first goal international goal in the week, put in a man of the match performance, providing the
pass for Petric's screamer, before scoring a scorcher himself.

Like a lot of reds, I was fairly aprehensive about our trip to White Hart Lane yesterday, given
that they were yet to lose a game and Jermaine Defoe is in great form. Whilst Spurs' opposition
teams before this weekend haven't been world beaters necessarily, they have seen off Liverpool, and
every one knows that this is the year they are going to win the league again.

Hola Geri, what's the joke? We don't know what it is that's making Gerard Pique laugh like that
during training, but we'd be laughing too if we had just scored a goal like his last night. And
he's not the only Barca boy who scored for his NT...
- With all four Barca players who were called up to Spain (Pique, Puyol, Xavi, Busquets) starting
their country's match against Belgium, Gerard Pique scored the third goal as Spain went on to win
5-0.

behind.

A fixture at Old Trafford so early in the season was a good opportunity to show that we had
learned the lessons of last season. It was regarded as our first real test of the season and
judging by the fixtures we've had so far I would have to agree.
The focus of our new style of play is our work rate and what we do without the ball.

We're having mixed feelings about this match. On one hand, Barca were victorious, and we've won the
UEFA Supercup: after also securing the Spanish Supercup, this marks the best cap-off to the
splendorous yesterseason, as well as a great way to kick off the coming one; and just an all-around
spirit-lifter for the team and fans.

Newcastle United continued their impressive start to the season and went top of the Championship
with a well earned victory over Crystal Palace.
Regardless of the uncertainty surrounding the future of the club, the Toon players are showing
they are more than up for the fight with goals from Kevin Nolan and a cracker from Ryan Taylor.

FC Barcelona looks like they will be al set to add their first silverware of this season at Camp
Nou next week after securing a 2-1 away victory at Sam Mames. With two away goals and a goal lead,
it looks pretty unlikely that Barca will falter in winning the title. Athletic Bilbao went ahead
towards the end of the first half but second half strikes from Xavi and Pedro secured Barca a
deserving victory.

Liverpool lost their opening game of the new season to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane
today.Playing without Xabi Alonso for the first time since his move to Madrid, the Reds looked

I've described the derbies against our true antagonists Djurgården and Hammarby as the Battle
Ryales of Swedish soccer. A derby against Brommapojkarna never truly reaches the same levels of
anticipation and hysteria. This is a instead a game that I've dubbed the Novelty Derby. It's a
novelty because it's a rather new derby as Brommapojkarna is only playing their second season ever
in Allsvenskan.

How huge did this match turn out to be? The Rose Bowl was nearly completely filled, with over
93,000 filling the stands – the largest attendance ever in the United States since the World Cup
final in the same stadium back in 1994. FC Barcelona: are we epic, or are we epic?
Please excuse the ego trip, we're just too proud of our boys.

4-1 victory but wasn't enough for them to grab the inaugral Wembley Cup. Celtic later defeated

another young but talented side ofr this encounter.

I always struggle with the late games. 815 on a Sunday night is really no time to be playing
football. I'm still digesting dinner, I'm winding down from a busy weekend of standing in the rain
coaching 13 year old girls, I'm really just about ready for bed if I'm honest. So whether I liked
it or not, I still had to drive way the hell out to Heritage Green and get to work.

The second coming of Florentino Perez should not be judged on what big name stars he brings to
the Santiago Bernabeu. His ability to attract the world's best has never been an issue of debate.
Neither has his ability to generate capital for the club. Rather, any lessons the man claims to
have learnt since departing the Bernabeu in disgrace back in 2006 should be judged on how he treats
the less famous, yet equally important, members of the squad.

According to reports Manchester United are locked in a transfer battle with Real Madrid and
Chelsea for Lyon's in-demand forward Karim Benzema, after Carlos Tevez is set to leave Old Trafford
after rejecting a new five year contract. From what I've seen of him in the Champions League and in
the French league he could certainly cause plenty of problems in the Premier League.

Danny Welbeck has made a good start to his Manchester United career, from the screamer he scored
in front of the Stretford End on his league debut to the further twelve games and two goals he
finished the season with.
Sir Alex Ferguson has predicted that Fabio Capello will be taking Welbeck with his England squad
to the World Cup next summer, which certainly indicates our manager expects to give Welbeck a lot
more time in the team this season.
