Previous Posts: Formation
Okay, a bit of a change in the calendar. Depending on when/if there's a midweek match posts in this
series will go up on Sunday/Wednesday or Monday/Thursday. And since I'll have the preview for
Tuesday's match up Monday afternoon, I'd like to give these polls a bit of time at the top of the
blog.

of us might see what's it is like for Rafa and how brilliant he has been for us.

David James is as old as Methuselah(officially), Ben Foster has hands made out of butter

Fabio Capello has named his England squad to face Ukraine and Belarus, and Ben Foster is not in
it.

Time marches relentlessly on. Three years ago, Damien Duff was kissing a Premier League medal
for Chelsea. Two years ago, Scott Carson was (briefly) England's first choice goalkeeper. This time
last year, West Bromwich Albion against Newcastle United was a Premier League match. The two clubs
couldn't have finished last season in a much more different fashion.

It looked like it might be a quiet day at the office for Manchester City didn't it? After the
Big Brotheresque saga of Roque Santa Cruz's drawn out switch to Eastlands from Blackburn, it looked
like Mark Hughes and his henchmen might just have a few days to contemplate their next move. And
refill their briefcases with cold hard cash.

Despite an injury list that would be extremely worrying if the situation was repeated in South
Africa next year, we're going into the next two qualifiers in an extremely favourable position to
ensure automatic qualification. We should beat Kazakhstan on Saturday (4:00pm on Setanta,
highlights 10:00pm on ITV) and Andorra on Wednesday (7:45pm on ITV), but arguably the most
important game in the group is the one between Croatia and the Ukraine, which kicks off at 7:15pm
on Saturday: it's pretty safe to say that if Ukraine lose, they're unlikely to get to South Africa
next summer, leaving the Croats as the only obstacle to overcome.

And so another season disappears into the ether, as we are all left to ponder exactly why David di
Michele is paid to pay football. But for your hard working bloggers at
The H List, I am
afraid that there is little chance for us to put our feet up as our tens of readers demand some
sort of year end review, on top of the bi monthly match reports.

With West Bromwich Albion's fate sealed last week we can now prepare ourselves for a dramatic
conclusion to the Premier League season on Sunday. The neutral (including yours truly) will
relish it and will want to see as many twists and turns as possible. Anyone supporters involved
will have struggled to sleep for a week.

Will the Baggies bounce back?
The predicted great escape was sadly not to be for West Bromwich Albion, a 2-0 defeat to
Liverpool condemned Tony Mowbray's side to life in the Championship. It seemed a late run of form
was going to provide the springboard for the Baggies to perform another miraculous feat, ala 2007,
but it was too little too late for them as relegation was confirmed on Sunday.

Even Scott Carson's never managed one like this Link: You know when the ball rolls back to the

closing him down, and the keeper then picks the ball up? Next time you are going through this

It was the summer of 2006 when Calum Woods decided his career needed a new direction. For a boy who
had grown up in the shadow of Anfield, leaving Liverpool the city was almost as hard as leaving
Liverpool FC.
At one point, the Melwood training ground rivalled John Lennon Airport for departures.

While squinting at Saturday's stream I caught sight of a strange name on the back of one of our
players:
"ANGELA"
In the split minute it took for me to process this information ANGELA turned into HANGELAND, but
it just goes to show what your mind can do if it wants.  If he weren't such a good and important
player I think it'd be a fine nickname.

Unsurprisingly, there was much tipping of West Brom for an upset ahead of yesterday's game - given
our exertions in the UEFA Cup and also no doubt our propensity for allowing those sides near the
bottom a great shot at taking three points.
Despite wobbling enough to allow West Brom back into the game at 2-2 (with a sniff of a win) we had
enough quality and firepower to ultimately go on and take the points, and coupled with results
elsewhere (notably draws for West Ham and Fulham) allow a glimmer of hope once again in the race
for seventh, which will bring Europa League qualification.

When David Seaman retired from international football in 2002 England never replaced the pony
tailed shot stopper. Seaman had a great career of 75 England caps between 1988 and 2002, but since
the ex Arsenal hero retired the Goalkeeping spot has always been one under a huge debate.

England keeper is serial cock-up artist You have to feel a bit sorry for Scott Carson. He is a very

James.. 18 hour COD4 session before Man City game?
The quality shot metric is a useful tool for analysing goalkeeper performance. It rewards keepers
who face a greater percentage of close range shots and penalises those who face a succession of
hopeful long range efforts.
Scott Carson is one notable beneficiary of more accurately assessing the type of shots keepers
face.

1. Precocious PreviewThere have been some momentous happenings in the world of football since our deceptive demolition

2007/8 Review
West Bromwich Albion really should have won last season's Championship in a hack canter. Instead,
they prevailed over Stoke City by a short head. West Brom had a goal difference of +33 and a shot
differential of +223 -- a distance clear of the rest of the division in both categories.
