Fraser Campbell and Stephane Sessegnon score two wonderful goals as Sunderland beat Norwich 3-0 at
the Stadium of Light tonight.
Our friends over at New England Soccer Today are once again flexing their muscles and showing
off their superior sources, and today's piece does not disappoint. Few people were probably
expecting Monsef Zerka to return this season, but most were operating under the assumption that the
front office was at least making some attempt to bring him back at a reduced salary.

Remember two weeks ago when forward Kris Boyd of Rangers turned down Houston? Well, today he signed
with Portland!! Hoooo-Weeeee! Bet he won't receive a friendly welcome when he makes his first visit
to whatever that new stadium in Houston is called.

Morning all,
let's start with early team news ahead of Sunday's game against United and there's nothing good
regarding Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard will miss the game, Arsene says he has 'no chance' of playing
and the earliest we'll be seeing him is against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
Clearly that's a big blow.

Liverpool are desperate to offload Andy Carroll this January. Unfortunately, there's no great
demand for Noel Fielding look-a-likes so they may be stuck with the Geordie. Add into the mix the
drawn out Luis Suarez racism row and [.
Defender Glen Johnson insists the return of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will re-ignite the
Reds' season.
The midfield general came off the bench to inspire Kenny Dalglish's men to a comfortable 3-1

Truth be told I'd prefer the 2002 vintage, but I'd be lying if I said I was completely cold
about the possible return of Sir Thierry of Henry. It's difficult not to be taken in by the romance
of our all-time top scorer coming back for a few months, even if he is now one score and fourteen
years old.
The second half onslaught was exhilarating but not quite enough to regain the two points that
another freakish goal had taken away.
Arsene did rotate some of the players. Djourou came in for Coquelin, Rosicky for Ramsey, and
Benayoun for Walcott. It was a strong team and one that should have secured the win with relative
ease.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish praised the courage of his players after their perceived dominance
was again not reflected in a scoreline.
A 1-0 win over QPR at Anfield ended the Reds' run of four successive and frustrating home draws
after star striker Luis Suarez headed the only goal of the game early in the second half.
Rafa clearly believed in the power of his groin a little too much"Pay your tax, my lord, pay
your tax," the Aston Villa fans sang to Harry Redknapp, to the tune of 'Kumbaya', during the second
half on Monday night. Within seconds, the home crowd replied in near unison with: "2-0 down, my
lord, 2-0 down, oh you're 2-0 down.
Liverpool's Ressies easily beat Sundeland's 5-1 at melwood this afternoon at Melwood.
Rodolfo Borell had the chance to pick Jay Spearing, Jonjo Flanagan and Sebastian Coates from the

Two of MLS' most physical teams duked it out on the rough pitch at Livestrong Sporting Park.
AVB is under pressure apparently and the media focus this week has been our recent run of poor
form. We all know we should have defended better against the Arsenal and beaten Genk this week but
is it just a case of being unlucky at not being able to put the ball in the net and it has cost us
as Petr Cech has stated?

1. Never mind Super Sunday, that was surreal Sunday. The football equivalent of a full moon.
Absolutely bonkers. 2. On Saturday night OTP could not have imagined a scenario by which firebug
Mario Balotelli could score two goals against Manchester United the following day and barely be a
sub-plot. 3. Given events at Loftus Road, [.
AZ Alkmaar settled for a tie on the road at Amsterdam Arena while Helmond Sport would score two
goals in second half stoppage time to secure a road point following Charles Kazlauskas' opener.
Yep, 2 for 2 in the championship already. Who would have thought? Certainly not me (if I read
correctly, we had 2 points by this time last season). And really, THESE are the games we must be
winning. Take the 07-08 season for example, where easily avoidable home losses to teams like
Iraklis and Panionios cost us the championship.
On a day that saw MLS clubs go winless in CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage matches, the
Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas lost crucial home games on Wednesday night.
The Rapids were defeated 2-1 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park by Honduran side Real Espana on a
pair of goals from Carlos Pavon.

Former Harrisburg City Islanders midfielder Morgan Langley has been signed by the Philadelphia
Union, according to tweets from the player and his friends.
Yesterday Langley tweeted that he was "speechless" and his "childhood dream just came true!
#lifeisgood." The timing of the tweets coincided with the Islanders' announcement that Langley and
teammate Sainey Touray would train with the Union for the remainder of the week.
The Philadelphia Union have invited Morgan Langley and Sainey Touray to train with the team this
week, according to the Harrisburg City Islanders' Facebook page.
Touray featured heavily for Harrisburg City in 2011, playing in 21 games, scoring seven goals
and assisting on six others in 1,161 minutes.
I went into a state of utter despondency at the end of this transfer window, even allowing for
the entry into the Champions League stages failed to lift my spirits. The 8-2 thrashing by
Manchester United rubbed salt into very big wounds. I took a break to reflect, the International
Break helped in a sense, to enable common sense to dawn.
Morning chums!
We'll start this morning with the Champions League draw and this season, like we have for the
last 15 seasons and not just once by fluke like that lot who are sponsored by Sky Sports News,
we'll be at Europe's top table playing Borussia Dortmund, Marseille and Olympiacos. I think that's
pretty ok, to be honest.
Now it's time for your requisite story about Sergio "Kun" Agüero and Manchester City, who around
4:48 Eastern Time on Monday was arguably the biggest thing to ever happen to England. Ever. Winston
Churchill? Pfft. Did he ever score two goals against Swansea City? Didn't think so. In essence,
Agüero's Premier League debut was so life-affirming people across Manchester -- nay, around the
world -
Well not the best game for the Portland Timbers but it was a draw on the road without their two
CMs.
Quotes:
Head coach John Spencer
On the result:
"I think the draw was a fair result. It was probably one of the most boring games of soccer I've
seen in a long time.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalgish has bemoaned the timing of the upcoming mid-week friendly
internationals as he prepares for the start of the Premier League season.
The Reds finished their pre-season schedule with a 2-0 victory at Anfield against Valencia on
Saturday. The match came a week before they kick-off their domestic campaign with a trip to
Sunderland.
Did someone say defensive frailties ?
Arsenal let Boca Juniors come back and score two goals in the second half after Van Persie and
Ramsey had put them ahead.
The Fabregas saga continued. He walked out of the game at half time.
It's quite an accomplishment for the club, which is based in Orange County, but joined forces
with the South Bay Force last summer so that all but a couple of players on the team are from the
South Bay.
The team was seeded 31st out of 32 teams who made the playoffs after having a 16 point deduction
for fielding two ineligible players earlier in the season.

UW-Milwaukee's Ryan Whitehead, a starting central defender for the team all

that clinched the Bavarians' first National Premier Soccer League Midwest Division

Paul the Octopus, while nice, created something of a problem:

HOUSTON, Texas - As Honduras applied most of the pressure towards the end of regulation of its
semifinal match against Mexico on Wednesday night, there was a growing sense that maybe the U.S.
men's national team would not face its most bitter rival in the Gold Cup final afterall.
Stop me if you have heard this one before. The Chicago Fire came away from Toyota Park with a
tie last night. Sound familiar? The final score was Chicago Fire 0 - Seattle Sounders 0. Sean
Johnson came up with some big saves early in the game but he didn't record any other saves after
the first 20 minutes of the game.
Morning all. How about that final day, then? It wasn't enough that the season
closer was an outright molestation of the senses for those immersed in all the grisly stuff; they
had to try and involve the rest of us, too. Even if, for the average sit-at-home hero, it was just
an exercise in making sure the part of our brain usually reserved for processing basic arithmetic,
hadn't leaked out of our ears the night before in a syrupy gunk.
