Juan Agudelo will be the latest MLS-based U.S. men's national team player to get a training stint overseas with a top-level club.

Liverpool appears to have finally landed Charlie Adam.

After a long chase that spans back to the winter transfer window, Liverpool and Blackpool have agreed on a transfer fee for the Scottish international, who was a consistent performer in the Premier League last season and whose set-piece potency was among the best in the league.

Palermo are pessimistic about their chances of signing Velez Sarsfield midfielder Ricardo Alvarez due to the interest of Arsenal and Malaga.

The samba beats were quieted Wednesday night.

In what had to be one of the strangest yet historic evenings in Copa Libertadores history, four Brazilian teams were out-fought, out-played and simply out-spirited as they fell in the Round of 16 stage, leaving a more well-proportioned quarterfinal round.

2010 Apertura champions were Estudiantes de La Plata. In the 2011 Apertura, eight rounds (of 19) have been played, and Estudiantes again have the lead, albeit by goal difference over River Plate. River have not won a title since the 2008 Clausura, and are coming off a good 4th place finish in December, yet so bad have they been in the previous two seasons that los Millonarios must still concern themselves with the relegation table (more on that later).

Rioting fans caused an Argentinian Primera División match between Vélez Sársfield and San Lorenzo to be abandoned on Sunday amid reports that a fan had died in clashes outside the stadium before the match.

The match at the Estadio José Amalfitani in Buenos Aires was halted when visiting San Lorenzo fans broke down the fencing around the pitch and the Vélez goalkeeper was hit by a missile thrown from the crowd.
