Atlético Madrid have named Diego Simeone as their new coach following the dismissal of Gregorio
Manzano.
The former Argentina midfielder, 41, scored 23 goals in 134 appearances during two spells at
Atlético, winning a domestic double in 1995/96. Simeone moved to Europe to join AC Pisa and then
Sevilla FC, signing for Atlético from 1994-97.

Se jugaba el
Torneo Nacional de 1971 en dos grupos de 14 equipos cada uno. Los dos primeros
de cada zona accedieron a las semifinales: Independiente (24pts) y Newells (23pts) ganaron
(invictos) la zona A.

Hace 40 años, el 19 de diciembre de 1971, el estadio Monumental de Núñez fue protagonista de la
apasionante semifinal del Torneo Nacional entre los dos grandes de Rosario: Central y Newell's. Los
Canallas vencieron 1-0 con un legendario gol de palomita de Aldo Pedro Poy.
Tres días después, Rosario Central derrotaba 2-1 a San Lorenzo en el Parque Independencia y
conquistaba el primer título de AFA de su historia, pero en el corazón de los hinchas la victoria
en aquella semifinal contra el clásico y eterno rival sería el momento más recordado.

netting eight goals.
