Kenny Dalglish today praised the team behind the team as he prepares to celebrate a year since his
memorable return to Melwood.
Our most famous No.7 was invited back into the dugout 12 months ago this weekend following the
departure of Roy Hodgson from Anfield.
Since then he has transformed the fortunes of the team on the field by bringing unity back to the
club where he scored 172 goals in 515 games as a player.
Underfire managers and new beginnings... Bolton Wanderers Gary Megson and Sammy Lee were sacked for
better starts to a season at the Reebok. Owen Coyle may have persuaded fans initially that he could
be the eventual replacement for Sam Allardyce's success, but the wheels have come off rather
spectacularly.
It's Monday. It's September. The summer is over, with little but short days and dreary
weeknights at Stoke to look forward to in the fall. Unless you're one of our five Australian
readers, of course. But then you've got the local wildlife being in a 97% more killy mood to look
forward to, so it's not all good.

Hodgson's Reign:
Starting with Hodgson's era and the horrific start to the season Liverpool had last year under
him. The things were shockingly worse for the Merseyside club.
Liverpool 3-1 Bolton | Premier League match report
When Liverpool last beat Bolton eight months and an eternity ago, the photographs were of the
manger embracing his assistant and the goalscorer with images of a league table that showed the
club had clambered a little further from the relegation zone.
We've had Fletcher and Mackay and now West Ham are looking to add Baraclough to their growing list
of Slade Prison namesakes. The club are reportedly close to appointing former Scunthorpe boss Ian
Baraclough to their coaching staff, according to several sources. Sam Allardyce is
keen to bolster his backroom team after seeing Kevin Keen leave for Liverpool
earlier this week and has lined up a move for the highly-rated coach as he begins his plans for
next season.
New Liverpool coach Kevin Keen says he is "privileged, proud and honoured to be part of such a
fantastic club."
And the 44-year-old former West Ham midfielder is even prepared to forgive Kenny Dalglish for
spoiling his Football League debut 25 years ago!
Dalglish appointed Keen as first team coach yesterday following Sammy Lee's departure, with Steve
Clarke moving up to assistant manager.

We've made more than our share of jokes about the long, dull, dragging days of summer without
Liverpool football to distract us from cruel reality, but when you get right down to it there are
few sports that span the calendar quite like football. And so, three long, hard days (or
thereabouts) after Barcelona beat Manchester United in the Champions League final to close out
major European competition, the first wave of players begin to trickle into pre-season training
camps in England to kick off July.

Sammy Lee has left Liverpool, just over three years after returning to the Anfield club as
assistant manager.
Reports of the immensely popular 52-year-old assistant manager's exit began circulating on Tuesday
night and have not been denied by the club. The reasons behind this parting of the ways remain
unclear, although Steve Clarke's arrival last season as Kenny Dalglish's first-team coach
diminished Lee's influence.
Sammy Lee has reportedly stepped down from his role as assistant manager of Liverpool Football
Club.

Liverpool first team coach Steve Clarke believes wholesale changes are not necessary to ensure the
Merseyside club challenge for the Champions League places next term.
Clarke joined his countryman Kenny Dalglish at Anfield in January 2011, and the Scotsman is
confident that the current squad, along with a limited number of additions, will have the quality
to reclaim its place amongst the Premier League's top teams.
Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy is a summer transfer target for Liverpool according to
Setanta Sports.
The highly rated Republic of Ireland international has caught the eye with a number of fine
performances for the Latics since his 2009 move from Scottish side Hamilton Academicals.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is said to be a big fan of the 20-year-old star, who previously
turned down the chance to move to Anfield, and instead opted to cut his Barclays Premier League
teeth with Roberto Martinez's side.
Preston North End midfielder Adam Barton will become the subject of a summer transfer tussle
between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool according to local paper the Express Star.
The 20-year-old starlet has been in fine form for the Championship relegation strugglers this
season and has attracted the attention of a number of scouts across England.
Imagine different circumstances surrounding Manchester United's defeat at Liverpool last Sunday.
Leave aside Jamie Carragher's nasty tackle on Nani, Nani's ability to race to the referee before
collapsing in an injured heap and the glorious sight, which may stay with me forever, of referee
Phil Dowd, arms folded, watching from a distance like a disapproving dinner lady on playground duty
at a primary school as players from both sides got their handbags out.
Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen says Barcelona are the only club who could tempt him away from the
Amsterdam Arena at present.
The Denmark international is being linked to a host of top clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool,
whose assistant manager Sammy Lee was recently spotted casting an eye over the midfielder.
Liverpool is weighing up a £2.5million bid for Preston North End midfielder Adam Barton.
Liverpool scouts have watched the 20-year-old extensively this season and assistant manager Sammy
Lee made another check last Saturday as Barton helped Preston recover a draw against QPR.
The former Blackburn trainee, who has been capped by Northern Ireland, is rated at £5m by Preston
- but they may struggle to command that figure if they go down to League One.
His former coaches think 16-year old wonderkid Raheem Sterling development as a footballer is at
the same level as Wayne Rooney at the same age. Raheem has been likened to Arsenal's Theo Walcott
but it is said Sterling is even better than Walcott. A fast, pacey attacking midfield player who
can "pass, shoot, head, score goals, tackle, defend" according to his Steve Gallen of QPR.
As soon as the game at Molineux ended, Sammy Lee walked over to Kenny Dalglish, congratulated him
and then whispered, "You're Back!". This win surely must kick start Liverpool's season. The Reds
now look very comfortable as a team, attacking and defending as a unit. For that unifying factor,
Kenny Dalglish deserve praise.
Steven Gerrard is hopeful that Liverpool's new first-team coach Steve Clarke can help improve the
team's defence and attack, after what has been a largely underwhelming campaign.
The Reds have managed to keep only six clean sheets in their 22 Premier League games, and have
conceded 31 goals in the process.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is hopeful Steve Clarke can provide the answer to getting the best
out of Joe Cole and Glen Johnson.
The pair have so far failed to live up to expectations at Anfield, with Johnson costing the club
£17million in the summer of 2009, while Cole has not hit the ground running since arriving this
season.
Jay Spearing is looking to fight for a first team place following his return from a serious
training ground injury.
The former Academy youngster has been out since December 19 after he cracked a small bone just
above his ankle in his fibula during training at Melwood, and is hoping to play a role in Kenny
Dalglish's squad as soon as possible.
Daniel Pacheco scored a superb goal in front of Kenny Dalglish as Liverpool Reserves beat
Sunderland 2-1 at the Academy on Tuesday afternoon. Watch highlights now online.
Nikola Saric bagged the other goal on a day when the young Reds played some lovely football as
Dalglish, Steve Clarke and Sammy Lee watched from the sidelines.
Kenny Dalglish has already began to put his stamp on Liverpool by hiring Steve Clarke as his
first team coach. Sammy Lee will remain as assistant manager,
"It is important we have good backroom staff and Steve comes into that category," Dalglish said
on Liverpool's website.

most certainly at it's highest over Roy Hodgson's time at the club it's perhaps possible that we
won't even have a manager for Sunday's FA Cup clash against bitter rivals Manchester United.

Funny at first, then it goes on too long, but definitely worth watching for Sammy Lee's sinister
cameo. Like Arsene Wenger, Sammy would make a splendid Child Catcher.

It's early days, but I'm beginning to see a lot of worrying parallels between Blackburn manager
Steve Kean and Sammy Lee, assistant manager at Liverpool.
Lee was assistant manager at Bolton Wanderers for two years under Sam Allardyce. When Lee
stepped up to become manager after Sam Allardyce left to join Newcastle United, Lee finally had a
chance to make his name as a football manager.
