MLS Foul Awards 2009

Climbing the Ladder 02 November @ 05:47 AM EST
Ladies and gentlemen, it's that time of the year again. The regular season is over, so now we can look at the official numbers for fouls committed and fouls suffered and put them in the context of "per 90 minutes" rather than just raw totals. Which players will lead in the eight categories below?

Gloomy Day Roundup

The Fullback Files 13 October @ 10:13 AM EST
The buzz of qualification is starting to wear off, and the overcast skies match my mood this morning. So with that cheery thought in mind, let's plunge into some of the stuff cluttering my desktop... Major League Soccer Clearly, Uncle Sepp's... Click to continue reading...

Sam Cronin gets USA Gold Cup Call-Up. Toronto FC Roster gets Thinner

the yorkies 25 June @ 10:05 AM EST
As much as the state of TFC's paper-thin roster is worrying, supporters have to be proud of Sam Cronin for getting the call from the USA squad for the Gold Cup. In a short time with TFC, Cronin has become a reliable and consistent performer in the midfield. Under the obvious mentoring of Carl Robinson, the young midfielder makes few mistakes and has a burgeoning offensive instinct. Click to continue reading...

Rookie Update: Week 13

MLS Daily 18 June @ 12:18 PM EST
Steve Zakuani (SSFC, 1st overall)
Zakuani played like a #1 draft pick should in Seattle's 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes last Saturday. He looked extremely dangerous on the left throughout the night and consistently torched 'Quakes defender Chris Leitch with ease. He came off after 77 minutes of superb play, having recorded one shot on goal with three fouls suffered, the stats not nearly telling enough of what kind of evening the youngster enjoyed. It was ugly, but it worked

TFC Connected by Ben Van Weelden 15 June @ 08:24 PM EST
When I saw Chad Barrett wasn't in our starting eleven on Saturday, I knew we were going to score more than once. And we did, we scored two. Ali Gerba must have been watching from his private box thinking to himself "finally - a team that really, really needs me...".
It was a really ugly win, but three points is three points no matter which way you look at it. Click to continue reading...

TFC vs Real Madrid - But At What Cost?

The Offside - Toronto FC 30 May @ 02:43 AM EST

The King's Club. The White Ballet. The Galacticos (but not the Landycakes version). Rumour has it that one of the world's most storied clubs is coming to town on August 7th. They are so special that MLSE has agreed to lay down real grass over the turf for the game in order to protect the precious knees of their numerous stars.

A look ahead to Columbus...

Columbus. Saturday. 4:00. Be there. (...or watch on Gol TV @ 7:00)br /br /div style="text-align: justify;"Let's start to talk about our game this weekend. It is one of those dreaded international dates that MLS has ignored, yet again. We're not without nine guys this time, just two. Unfortunately, the two in question are Carl Robinson and Amado Guevara. Click to continue reading...

Rough Drafting

The Fullback Files 08 January @ 10:31 AM EST
With the SuperDraft only a SuperWeek away from SuperTakingPlace, I thought I'd collect some of the random bits and bytes dancing around the electronic ether, keeping DC United implications firmly at the fore. Let's get started with . . . Mad Mo Ready To Rumble . . . Why is conducting a mock draft in MLS such a pointless, masturbatory waste of reason and gray cells? Click to continue reading...
