Real Salt Lake learned the hard way last Saturday what it is like to play without forward Alvaro Saborio. Now, it looks like they'll have to get used to him being on the sidelines.
According to a report out of Salt Lake City, Saborio is likely to miss "several weeks" as per quotes from RSL manager Jason Kreis.

Real Salt Lake may have needed 70 minutes to break through San Jose’s defenses, but Álvaro Saborío then scored twice inside 15 minutes to give Salt Lake the win over San Jose.
One of the most successful clubs in MLS has a new owner.
Real Salt Lake announced Thursday that Dave Checketts sold his controlling stake in the club to real estate tycoon Dell Loy Hansen. Denzel Eslingser, a Real Salt Lake blogger, tweeted out the move had been rumored for months among people in the know.
Lots of business stories breaking this week, but we will start in Salt Lake City, where RSL owner Dave Checketts has sold off his remaining interest in RSL, along with Rio Tinto Stadium and ESPN 700 to former minority owner Dell Loy Hansen. A real estate developer/owner, Hansen is well known in the Salt Lake area and is a converted fan to the game.
The torch of running Real Salt Lake has officially been passed on, as the club announced Thursday that Dave Checketts has sold his majority stake in the club to Dell Loy Hansen, who assumes sole ownership.
Checketts was the driving force behind bringing Major League Soccer to Utah in 2004.
The start of Real Salt Lake's CONCACAF Champions League campaign could have gone worse on
Tuesday night in San Jose, Costa Rica, but not much worse.
RSL gave up an early goal to the home team, missed some good chances, had a player sent off, and
then had their best defender suffer an injury just two minutes later.
The action around MLS this week had just the right amount of mix for perfection. We had an All-Star
studded affair in mid-week and capped it on on the weekend with amazing goals, saves and comebacks.
Chicago's Sean Johnson and the Crew's Jairo Arrieta along with New England's Saer Sene put their
talents on display this weekend.

Moving into another weekend of soccer. Week 21 has a couple decent looking games including one
tonight in Salt Lake City. It is all conference battles here this weekend as we head more into that
portion of the league schedule. Games will be even more intense since they nearly all have playoff
implications on them.
In front of 17,212 fans at Rio Tinto Stadium in Salt Lake City, the visiting Minnesota Stars of the
NASL (D2) defeated MLS side Real Salt Lake by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday night in the 3rd round of
the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup competition. The Stars had won the rights to host [...]
The Revolution snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating Colorado on Wednesday night. But
turning that victory into a winning streak is going to be difficult, especially since the
Revolution's next opponent is Real Salt Lake on Saturday night.
After a 2-1 comeback victory on Wednesday, the Revolution departed from Utah on Thursday.
Before we take a look at MLS attendance from the weekend, a quick note on our "new" look. The
front page of Footiebusiness has been revamped to (hopefully) make things easier to navigate.
After more than three years with the same front page, it was time to make a few changes.
Hopefully it will be easier to access the Footiebusiness Twitter feed and soccer links while still
providing access to the site's content.
Robbie Keane's 68th minute goal ensured LA Galaxy would be in this years MLS Cup Final as the
Galaxy beat Real Salt Lake City 3-1 last night. Galaxy will meet Houston Dynamo in the Final after
they beat Kansas City 2-0 in the earlier game on Sunday.

The 2011 Seattle Sounders season is officially in the books. I should feel sad. I certainly did
on Wednesday when the Sounders came just a Tony Beltran head away from an epic comeback (more
highlights and photos for those that want to relive the battle). Yet, just a day later, I'm feeling
pretty darn good about things.
LA Galaxy advanced to the Western Conference Finals last night with a 2-1 win at home to New
York Red Bulls and 3-1 on aggregate.
Luke Rodgers fired the Red Bulls into a five minute lead before Mike Magee scorer of that all
important goal in the first leg equalised before Landon Donovan's spot-kick made sure the Galaxy
were in next Sundays Final where they will play Real Salt Lake City who accounted for the Colorado
Rapids in the other semi-finals.
The U.S. Men's National Team's four remaining home 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches will be played in Seattle, Salt Lake City, Columbus and Kansas City. The announcement, which completes the USA's schedule in the Final Round of World Cup Qualifying, was live on ESPN SportsCenter earlier today.

Preseason is heating up around the league, so we thought it would be worth checking to see if
local papers are taking notice. We'll start in Salt Lake City, where the always excellent Michael
Lewis offers up this detailed piece on the roster makeover for RSL. The piece includes interviews
and a look at some of the team's injury problems for the coming year.
It would be nice not to lose this tomorrow At this point the last thing the Rapids
probably want to do is play a game. On top of the horrible events in Aurora last night the team had
to change its plans for today. Originally the team was scheduled to fly straight from Toronto to
Salt Lake City but they stopped in Denver today for the funeral of Marisa Colaiano.
The Ivar's Dog, you'll have to go across the street from CLink to Safeco to get it though
Colorado is in my hometown of Seattle this week to face the neon-green Sounders. Seattle has been a
bit of a house of horrors for the Rapids. Over the last 3 years we've lost all 3 games at
Qwest/CLink, being outscored 9-4 and the less said about the U.
The Rapids are in Salt Lake City for the first of two trips to play FaKe SaLt LaKe this season. We
only get one home game which makes the Rocky Mountain Cup difficult to win this season, but now
appears to be a good time to strike.
The frustrating pattern of road losses continued for the Portland Timbers in their July 7 date in
Salt Lake City. After a resounding win versus San Jose midweek, the Timbers fell apart in a second
half meltdown that led to a Alvaro Saborio hat trick and six cautions for the Timbers. The end
result is a 3 to 0 loss, and according to multiple rumors filtering out on July 9, it could be
leading to significant changes for the Timbers.
Major League Soccer starts its 17th season this weekend, tying it with the original North
American Soccer League for longevity among top-flight soccer leagues on these shores in the modern
area. So, just for fun, here's a look at where each of the markets that had one or more NASL or MLS
teams over the years rank in terms of average announced attendance.
I love to see the MLS passion pouring in from these new ports of call. Devoted fans from
Toronto, Portland, Vancouver, Seattle and, going a little further back, Salt Lake City, have done
wonders to energize Major League Soccer, now going into its 17th season.
And plenty of new fans from older markets are adding more air to the MLS baloon, too.
Before we get the attendance numbers from the July 4th holiday, the big business story that
burst onto the scene at the end of last week was the announcement that Philadelphia 76ers minority
owners Erick Thohir and Jason Levien will join current owner Will Chang in ownership of DC United.
According to ESPN.

During a session with the media at the 2011 All Star Game in, Don Garber responded to a question
from the Philadelphia media about the possibility of an All Star Game in the City of Brotherly
Love. The Commissioner suggested that Philly would soon host the event and now it is official
that the 2012 version of the event will go forward at PPL Park.
Amy Rodriguez's 86th minute goal gave the USWNT a 2-1 win in their Olympic send off match in
Salt Lake City, UT. A 15th minute own goal by Canada's Carmelina Moscato was canceled out by a well
worked Melissa Tancredi goal in the 57th minute. But second half substitute Rodriguez was in the
right place at the right time to assure that the Americans headed to London on the back of a 2-1
victory.
The U.S. Olympic Women's Soccer Team -- plus three alternates -- will travel to Utah on Wednesday
to prepare for its Olympic Send-Off Match against Canada on June 30 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy,
Utah. The match kicks off at Noon MT and will be broadcast live on NBC.
U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage brings the 18-player 2012 Olympic Team to Salt Lake City, but three of
the four named alternates will also be training with the team, minus Christen Press who is staying
in Sweden to play with her club.
THIERRY Henry has got a lot on his plate it's fair to say. A hectic professional life and a busy
personal life. He's a superstar footballer jetting all over the US of A to represent the New York
Red Bulls in the MLS.
So you would expect no more from Henry than to at least deliver a heartfelt public tribute to
stricken former Arsenal team-mate Fabrice Muamba as he continues his remarkable recovery after
suffering a heart attack playing for Bolton against Tottenham at White Hart Lane in the FA Cup at
the weekend.
Rodgers: The Neverending StoryIn today's installment of the longest-running visa saga in the
16 year history of MLS, the New York Red Bulls reported this afternoon that, after a meeting with
the U.S. Consulate in London, striker Luke Rodgers may be inching closer to securing a work
permit that will allow him to return for a second season with the club.
What in Hristo Stoichkov is going on around here? So the Fire walk in to Salt Lake City and punk
the uh Royals (?) at their once impenetrable fortress. Against their first choice eleven even. That
happened without the midfield's security blanket Sebastian Grazzini. Wait a second do we actually
have a good squad now that can win anywhere?
The full roster of players has now arrived in Belgium. All 20 players trained this morning but not
before a late dash to the field by Kyle Beckerman! Kyle arrived on the overnight flight and went
straight from the airport to the training pitch. A set of gear was waiting for him, and once he dug
his boots out of his suitcase he was good to go.
EDITOR'S NOTE: It's a slow week and this seems not to be
getting the attention it deserves. Discuss. - Jeremiah
I had my first experience in supporting the Sounders away from home on May 28th, 2011 in Salt
Lake City Sandy, UT. My experiences as an away supporter are best summed up with my tweets from the
trip:

Manu Ginobili is hurt again. If you have the do-everything guard for the San Antonio Spurs on
your fantasy basketball team, you won't like this news. Ginobili suffered a strained oblique in
Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers and the initials reports don't sound very
encouraging.
Gregg Popovich, head coach of the Spurs, said that Ginobili could be out for a while.
Last week the Chicago Fire announced a new academy partnership with Indiana United. There are a
couple of goals in this relationship and what we as fans can expect to see come out of this
arrangement. For starters, you have the obvious idea of opening up a new metropolitan area for
Chicago Fire player development.
