The big news ahead of this evening's game is that Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon are back in
contention and with Rafael van der Vaart ruled out, both could play from the start.
"Jermain has trained okay in the last couple of days and Aaron Lennon as well, he's coming back,
he's looked sharp," said Harry on Friday.
Since the transfer window came into force during the 2002-03 season, Spurs have been one of the
most active clubs in terms of players arriving at and leaving White Hart Lane.
After a fairly quiet window by their standards – signing trio Yago Falque, Louis Saha and Ryan
Nelsen all on free transfers, let's take a look at seven players signed for big money during the
January period.
You didn't actually think I'd shut my yap just because some windows closed, did you?I can report
that Ryan Nelsen was considering a return to D.C. United when Tottenham swopped in at the last
minute. I can also tell you he still plans to come back to the Red-and-Black. There should be a
full report up at MLSS before long.
Could this Kiwi have clipped United's Canuck quotient?Between trips to sunnier climes, United did a little trialist-pruning, releasing journeyman
veterans Zayner and Svard along with the Suppie pickup Charles Rodriguez (conveniently just
after the last Roster Reset...sigh). Kasper promises more trialists for the Arizona jaunt,
but what I really want to see are (a) game time for Salihi against the MLS opposition on offer
there and (b) a left back, any left back.
Whatever your view of Spurs' deadline day transfer dealings, don't expect Kevin Bond to be
reading any comments after the late captures of Louis Saha and Ryan Nelsen.
Bond did however attempt to ease any disquiet by suggesting that we should all trust Harry and
the players he has brought in.
The protracted transfer of Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen has now been officially
confirmed by the club after his previous employers rubber stamped the termination of his
contract.
While the club were announcing the deal on the official website, Spurs assistant Kevin Bond
revealed that Nelsen was fit and available for Monday night's game at Liverpool.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez was left furious when Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto was
allowed to remain on the pitch despite a high tackle that forced forward Franco Di Santo out of the
Latics' 3-1 defeat at White Hart Lane.
With his side firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, the only positive
Martinez could reflect on was the mild nature of Di Santo's injury.

Some time in December, a story emerged in the papers linking Spurs with a move for Manchester
City's Carlos Tevez. In truth, nobody really believed it but at the time, a ‘source' stated that
it would be the biggest deal since Klinsmann.
In the end, we got a transfer that was reminiscent of a deadline day deal that happened a few
years ago.
The winter transfer window across Europe closed on Tuesday, and a number of teams -- not the usual
big-spenders -- that were scrambling to fill vacancies and address needs for the second half of
their respective seasons were able to add some valuable pieces to the puzzle.
Queens Park Rangers fall into that category, adding firepower in the form of former Lazio
striker Djibril Cisse and Fulham forward Bobby Zamora.

The Premier League Reading Stars list of 2012 is out. The idea is that footballers might
encourage kids and grown-ups to read by 'backing books' in public.
My friend Matthew and I tried to get a grant for a similar scheme a few years ago, possibly
using Sir Roy as a figurehead, but we were turned down (for reasons that were probably very unfair)
and "Roy's Reads" never did make it.

Blackburn's challenging festive season run continues as they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on
Boxing Day.
After losing to the English Premier League's bottom side Bolton 2-1 on Wednesday, Rovers head to
Liverpool knowing that a trip to powerhouse Manchester United awaits them on New Year's Eve.

Liverpool: The Reds' season has had more ups and downs than a roller coaster, with the club
struggling to find any sort of consistency.
Guess who's coming to Villa Park... again!! I'm sure their fans are as sick of the
sight of us as we are of them. Fortunately, if we can avoid being drawn against them in both of the
cups, we won't have to see them again until the reverse of this fixture in March next year.
So, here's how the two Glaswegian managers are sending their sides out today in what will be
Alex McLeish's first home game since taking over at Aston Villa.

Herculez Gomez is at it again.
A year after Gomez led the Mexican Clausura in goals with 10 for Puebla, the American striker is
putting together another strong run of form in the spring, scoring in his second consecutive match
in Pachuca's 4-2 loss to Tigres Wednesday night.

WASHINGTON - Moments after D.C. United's dismal 2010 campaign came to an end with a 3-2 loss to
Toronto FC in late October, then-interim coach Ben Olsen suggested that the club needed to inject
some new blood into its locker room, a sentiment made all the more pertinent by the departure of
captain Jaime Moreno, who played his final game in a D.

As widely predicted Johnathan Woodgate has been included in the squad for the trip to Blackburn.
With so many injuries and suspensions it seemed inevitable that the player would be called up and
according to the manager he may even start.
Harry said: "He'll be involved in some way but I've got a mind to throw him in at the deep
end.
My first encounter with DC United came in 2004. The arrival of Freddy Adu onto the world stage
gained his club extra publicity. A year later Ryan Nelsen joined Blackburn Rovers from the
Washington club, and at the time I questioned if someone from MLS could cut in England especially
as he joined Rovers as a 28 year old.

You just wouldn't let it lie, would you?
The ongoing tiff between Blackburn mongrel El-Hadji Diouf and everyone
on the staff at Queens Park Rangers is showing no signs of abating any time soon, after the
Senegalese forward responded to Neil Warnock's 'sewer rat' taunts by calling the
R's manager a non-entity.

The MLS combine is a high-pressure situation that is sometimes the most pressure-packed setting
some players have ever faced.
Not so for UCSB defender Michael Boxall, who has played in his fair share of high-profile
matches.
Roy Hodgson has survived many low points in his short spell as Liverpool manager but Wednesday
night's 3-1 defeat at Blackburn would seem to be one disaster too far and could hasten his exit
from Anfield.
Even before Saturday's injury-time winner against Bolton the suggestion was club owners New England
Sports Ventures were actively looking for a replacement.
Blackburn vs Liverpool Ewood Park, Blackburn Final score:- Blackburn Rovers 3-1 Liverpool ( Martin
Olsson, Benjamin Mwaruwari*2/ Steven Gerrard) Any positives Liverpool might have got with their
last gasp win over Bolton at the weekend vanished with this 3-1 loss at the hands of Blackburn
Rovers at Ewood Park.
Back to the road for Liverpool as they visit Rovers at Ewood.
"This time will be different," my heart tells me. "No, it won't," my head says. "Oh."
An away match, celebrate! Oh, nevermind that, Roy Hodgson is still at the helm, and as Dion
Fanning so warmly and cruelly reminded us months ago, Hodgson's squads are "a walking, talking
three points for the home side.
