The mighty fall quickly when tournament time comes around. With the Big East tournament now
heading into the semifinals, the University of Connecticut won't be around contending for the
conference title. Continuing a strong upset run in the postseason, the Providence Friars took care

I know I normally take the weekend's off but I do think this news is noteworthy enough to get me
to the laptop to type it out. Steve Goff reported earlier today that former New York Red Bull
academy player and Rutgers star Dilly Duka is set to sign with Major League Soccer.
Instead of exploring options in Europe like he had hoped after he left Rutgers earlier this
fall, Duke now is set to sign a four-year deal with the league.
The Big East happens to be an earlier starter when it comes to the postseason tournament. The
first round took place midweek, and while it's too early to pronounce some of the results as
upsets, DePaul managing to squeak into the quarterfinals comes as a slight surprise -- the Demons
drew 2-2 at Georgetown before winning on penalties.

Conference tournaments are right around the corner, increasing the stakes of each match this
late in the college soccer season. While the No. 1 Akron Zips have certainly earned at least an
at-large bid, an undefeated regular season is still in sight. The Zips did nothing to harm the
cause Wednesday, eking out a 2-1 win against Michigan State to remain undefeated on the year.

Last week I threw out some names that you may have already heard in line for next year's MLS
SuperDraft and I am back today with a few more. I hope to start making this list at least a twice a
month deal up until the draft in January.
One unbeaten fell over the weekend while another kept their record intact in another busy
weekend for college soccer. A month after entering the top 10 for the first time in school history,
Monmouth University saw their unbeaten record end after a 13-0-1 start to 2009. Severe rain prior
to the match left the field in poor condition in their 2-0 loss to St.

On Sunday afternoon, Mallori Lofton-Malachi [left] and the South Florida defense did what now other
team this season has been able to do: Shutout Rutgers' potent attack. Coming into the match, the

including two top twenty-five teams. Click to continue reading...

The South Florida women edged visiting Seton Hall (4-6-1) on Friday night with a 1-0 victory off a
goal by Chelsea Klotz [left]. Her eighty-fourth minute goal, assisted by Noelle Pineiro, was the
second time in as many games that the duo had teamed up for the game winner. Last Sunday, the roles
were reversed as Klotz assisted on Pineiro's late goal that sealed West Virginia's defeat at the

Every once in a while people I usually disagree with get something right. I'm sure it happens
with some of you where you hardly ever agree with me but I write something that is absolute truth
for once.
USF's leading scorer, Noelle Pineiro [left], secured a big win for the Bulls on Sunday with an
assist and then a goal to defeat West Virginia (4-3-4) in front of just 267 at the USF Soccer
Stadium. Pineiro, a sophomore from Bradenton, has been USF's most consistent source of scoring this
season, while the team has lacked the finishing touch at times. Click to continue reading...
What did the Bulls really need after being upset by West Virginia on Friday night in a Big East
Conference match? How about a date with the Big East whipping boys Pittsburgh Panthers (1-8-0)?
Perfect. South Florida (6-1-1) pushed the attack against Pitt, out shooting them 19-10. The Bulls were
rewarded at the quarter hour mark when Andre Mittoo scored his first goal of the season. Click to continue reading...

How wild was last night?
If you watched Mexico-Panama last night hoping to get some insight into the U.S. national team's
biggest rival you were treated to a night filled with ugliness, absurdity and unintentional
comedy.
It's Bouna Time! Not surprisingly, a much rumored transaction has occurred in New Jersey/New York. Courtesy of USA
Today:
SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) — Goalkeeper Jon Conway, suspended late last season by the MLS for using
performance-enhancing drugs, has been released by the New York Red Bulls.
It looks like a guy who had been rumored to come to Red Bull New York from "the mothership" in
Austria is now in camp with Juan Carlos Osorio's club. According to the New York Post:
"Obster impressed Osorio during last year's preseason scrimmages in Austria and the 25-year-old
left winger wanted to make the jump to MLS.
New Jersey, the Garden State, is famous and infamous for many things: the Mafia, Atlantic City,
Frank Sinatra, Bon Jovi, stone-washed jeans, the Pine Barrens, Bruce Springsteen, teased hair, the
Meadowlands, the Jersey Devil, pharmaceutical companies, the Turnpike, the Lindbergh Kidnapping,
diners, and soccer, yes, soccer.
Today is one of those days where you watch the clock and count the minutes until game-time,
making almost everything else you do in that time just a tad bit more difficult to do.
It's okay, we are all in that boat. I am trying to finish up the Bext XI, Worst XI, Team of the
Week this afternoon, but am having a hard time getting it done.

After years of running one of the league's better youth academy programs, the New York Red Bulls
may be finally ready to see their program bear fruit.
The New York Post reported today that the Red Bulls have brought in Red Bulls Academy products
Johnny Exantus and Dilly Duka to train with the first team, with the possibility existing that the
club could sign one or both of the young prospects.
Here's the Women's b-ball weekend TV schedule - for those who want to study-up for March!
Rutgers-Louisville on Sunday looks interesting on ESPNU. (I wouldn't want to be facing
Rutgers right now, after their loss to the Lady Vols). Remember - all times are Central -

Have you been having trouble this week keeping track of what day it is? I'm not complaining
about the Thursday Holidays, mind you - but it's made for some serious disorientation. Nice
and quiet at work, though. I've been digging through things I hadn't gotten to for months,
and my in-box is down to just [. Click to continue reading...
Germany-Japan are underway and Japan is looking goo so far (17th minute). meanwhile, I can't
imagine what the USWNT must be feeling right now. Hopefully they are focused and confident. Their

The Rutgers Football has a new fan and it's no other then Manchester United own Wayne Rooney. Who
would have ever thought that the soccer star would be spotted walking around the Manchester area
with a Rutgers hat on top of his ginger head (below). When Greg Schiano took over Rutgers in 2001 little did he know that the "State of
Rutgers" would include the greatest soccer team in the world. Click to continue reading...
Here's just a quick piece from The Huffington Post, highlighting a Robin Roberts interview with
Elizabeth Edwards about her commitment to work with the Obama team - especially focusing on health
care issues. Meanwhile Charlie Black's disturbing statement quoted in Fortune Magazine has raised
lots of eyebrows. Click to continue reading...
