I wrote this article two days ago, but Wordpress hates me, so I could
only get it up now. Sorry if it feels old...
It's exactly forty days until the Serie A season officially begins (28th August 2011). I think
I'll take a break from criticising the FIGC to write about some recent transfer rumours and an
argument in Rome, with some pre-season friendlies thrown in for good measure.
The Italian FA have somehow confirmed that they can not strip Internazionale Milano of their
2006 Scudetto. Now maybe it's because I'm looking at Italian football through my
corruption-free tinted glasses, but I expected at least some action to me taken. The FIGC's
"executive committee" met in Rome today, and the decision was confirmed.
So the news is back! Sorry for the delays with some of my recent articles, but Wordpress has
been acting up. The transfer window is very much alive, unfortunately.
- Juventus continue to pursue a striker in La Liga, but it's no longer Sergio Aguero, instead
Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi might be on his way to Turin.
This is another news type article, just wanted to ask you guys how often you would like to see
them. Maybe daily, or every two or three days, let me know.
- La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Chelsea's Andre Villas-Boas is interested
in Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi.
9th of July 2006. The fact that we won the World Cup meant very little to me, it was the way in
which we won that made us special.
The cancer that still is Calciopoli had just been let loose. Italian football was entering a
very dark place. Corruption and fraud were a common sight. Yet for one day we managed to win by
overcoming our difficulties.
Following the news that evidence of former Inter President Giacinto Facchetti involved in
match-fixing back in 2006 was released, newspapers all in Italy have been all over the story. Many
of them claiming that Inter should give their 2006 Scudetto back. One of these newspapers was
La Gazzetta dello Sport, not only one of the most popular sport dailys, but one of the
most popular newspapers in general.
As we count down the days to the upcoming season, everyone is closely following the comings and
goings of the transfer window. For the next few weeks I will start many news posts with transfer
rumours. Followed by the main story the papers.
- Although Roma insist it's not going to happen, many news agencies continue to report they are
on the verge of snapping up Erik Lamela.
Just another day in calcio- schedule changes, loving coaches, and new ideas.
1.Inter are so impressed with Leonardo that general manager Ernesto Paolillo believes he will be
at the club for a long time to come:
Leonardo will be the Coach of the future. He came to us for a long-term project and we want to
introduce more young players.
Matchday 29 begins in a matter of hours in Italy. Two coaches have also spoke about futures- one
about his own, one about that of a player- as a club and a winger appear to be at a crossroads. As
ever, Serie A remains fascinating.
- Former Roma boss Luciano Spalletti has distanced himself from the Juventus job, should Gigi Del
Neri get sacked: "In Italy there's talk of me at Juve?
It was yet another big weekend in Serie A. The top three won, which kept things the same at the
top of the table, while the race for places 4-7 continues to be ever-changing, as sides like
Juventus, Palermo, Roma, and the likes aren't consistent. Below that, it continues to remain
competitive, as only 4 points separate 9th place from 14th.
First, I'd like to apologize for the Italy Offside being at a standstill for the past two weeks,
I've just been a little busy lately and didn't get around to posting. But the busyness has subsided
and the Italy Offside is back in full force. (Sorry to all those that were happy thinking that I
finally left.
Another weekend in Serie A full of interesting results. Probably the biggest result was Udinese
defeating Inter 3-1 at home. Recently, Udinese has been lauded in the Italian media as playing the
best calcio in Italy, and they are confirming that more and more as the weeks pass (I wrote about
how great a club Udinese is back in 2008, give it a read if interested).
That was Adriano Galliani's reaction to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's stunning goal vs. Lecce yesterday.
Galliani isn't new to making funny faces, but it was warranted for that goal. The 20th giornata
marked the official start of the first half of the season, and the Serie A calendar reset from the
beginning.
The 19th Giornata has ended, which means the first part of the season is officially over. So
this weekend the Serie A calendar will start all over again from the beginning, just inverted. It
was an interesting weekend in Serie A with 30 goals scored and lots of great games. Milan continue
to lead the way with 40 points, while Napoli are sole second with 36 points.
