Silly season continues to go on around the world, and today Sporting KC was named in the silliness.
Sky Sports is reporting that the "Kansas City Wizards" are interested in Scottish international
striker, Kris Boyd. The 28 year old striker was most recently with Eskisehirsqor in Turkey, where
he recently had his contract canceled.
Player news is starting to pick up a little bit for Sporting KC. The team today made two
announcements on player news, and a new rumor has cropped up on another player.
First, after the announcement yesterday of the trade for Michael Thomas' rights, the team today
announced that they had signed the Olathe native to a contract.
Two quick bits of Sporting KC news to throw out real quick for you.
First, last night during the Comets game, Robb Heineman posted on Twitter that there was good news
on a "GREAT friendly." Nothing is finalized per the tweet, as Heineman said that "hopefully they'll
be able to finish it up.
It's been a quite few weeks when it comes to player rumors, really since Omar Bravo left for Cruz
Azul there have been few rumors regarding Sporting KC. As James said in his post regarding this
rumor, it's been campfire talk for a short little while, and it does seem to make sense. Michael
Thomas is currently playing with Ljungskile SK in Sweden.
We thought the Omar Bravo rumors were dead, but it turns out that they in fact are not. A Tweet
today from Jorge Ramos with ESPN Deportes said "Omar Bravo will not play again in Kansas City
problems with the coach." A few days after we heard that Peter Vermes and Bravo had a conversation
with what was said to be a good conversation and a week or so after news came out that Bravo wasn't
going to go on loan, this news comes out.
The rumor mill continues this offseason and another new rumor regarding a potential player has
surfaced. Rumors out of Sweden is that Sporting KC has Swedish defender, Anton Hysen in their sites
as a potential target. From looking at a translation of the article, it appears though that the
Vancouver Whitecaps are the leaders in the race to get the 20 year old defender.

Teal Bunbury didn't even make it to England to begin his training stint before transfer rumors
started this year. Last year while training with Stoke City, the English press jumped on it and
said that Bunbury was trialing with the EPL side and that the Potters were interested in buying the
KC forward.
Confused a little?
Thanks to The Front Men for tipping this off. Word out of Peru is that Sporting Kansas City is
after Sporting Cristal's midfielder, Carlos Lobaton. Lobaton is a Peruvian international with 20
caps for Peru so far. He's played 220 games for Cristal since 2005. Before that he'd for 5 other
Peruvian clubs since beginning his professional career in 1998.
The early offseason continues to be fairly busy for Sporting KC fans to follow, and continues today
with news out of Mexico on one of the Wizards designated players, Omar Bravo. Bravo was apparently
down in Mexico today visiting his old club, Chivas de Guadalajara. Bravo is apparently interested
in training or playing with a team while MLS is in it's offseason.
It's getting close to silly season again, the time for agents to make their money by getting
players deals around the world. The rumors have started for potential incoming players this year.
Rumors out of Sweden today are that Sporting KC and expansion side, Montreal, have shown interest
in Swedish forward Jeffrey Aubynn currently with Malmo FF.
The silly season is still going on and more news is coming out with regards to Sporting KC players.
While Shavar Thomas was on trial with Portsmouth, and Stephane Auvray looks to be on his way out of
KC, other news is coming out. First is news that Sporting KC's lone Generation Adidas player, Teal
Bunbury, has been attracting interest abroad still.
Earlier today, Sporting KC confirmed the signing of Trinidad and Tobago international Daneil Cyrus
on loan from 1st Santa Rosa FC in Trindad. Cyrus had trialed with the team all through pre-season
after impressing at a combine down in the islands over the winter. The teams though had not been
able to reach a deal for the player and Sporting had moved in another direction.
Word out of Trinidad today is that Sporting KC has a new central defender. Long time target Daneil
Cyrus is on his way to KC on a loan deal from his Trinidad club, Santa Rosa FC apparently. Cyrus
had impressed during the preseason and the team had tried to work out a deal, but back in March
word from Cyrus' club was that the offer was too low.
Sounds like one of the two players coming in on trial, mentioned by Robb Heineman has been made
known. Word out of Brazil is that Vasco da Gama midfielder, Jeferson is on his way to Kansas City.
The article out of Brazil loosely says that Jeferson would be on loan to Kansas City with the team
and league having the option to buy the midfielder if he impresses.
Ryan Smith is saying he's a free agent, Sporting KC is saying otherwise, but that hasn't stopped
Smith from trying to find a team closer to his family in England. Word out of Spain is that Smith
is headed to Real Zaragoza for a trial. The Spanish club finished only 2 points clear of the
relegation zone in Spain last year, but in 13th place.
This rumor appears to be a little late, but it appears that KC was interested in trying to acquire
Panamanian forward Orlando Rodriguez. Rodriguez was recently let go from his contract with Leon de
Huanuco in Peru and appears set to rejoin his former club Arabe Unido for the 4th time in his
career. Rodriguez was on the 2009 Panamanian Gold Cup team and apparently during this year's Gold
Cup was on the radar for Sporting KC, along with Chivas and the Red Bulls before apparently making
the decision to return to Arabe.
Today, Kansas City's former sister club Atlas announced that they'd made a deal with the Chicago
Fire to bring in Gaston Puerari. But in the same article about that move, there's talk about Atlas
trying to bring in Sporting Kansas City midfielder, Ryan Smith, at least on trial. Smith who missed
the first few games of the season, and the last two as well, due to injury has been limited to only
6 appearances this season.
Teal Bunbury's agent has quelled the level of the rumors that came out yesterday from the French
tabloid Top Mercato. In fact he quelled them quite humorously, saying that Teal Bunbury didn't even
do that interview. Bunbury's agent does confirm that there is interest abroad in the Sporting KC
striker and that teams have come to watch him play.
This Sunday is the last match-week in the 2010-2011 Serie A season but the fates of most of the
Italian sides are already known. At the top of the table, Milan has secured the Scudetto while
Inter and Napoli are assured spots in the Champions League. At the bottom of the table, Sampdoria,
Brescia, and Bari will be relegated to Serie B for the 2011-2012 season.
Well this rumor has lasted longer than the Diego Chara rumor did earlier this week. Earlier today
Charles Gooch tweeted about Peter Vermes being excited about a possible transfer deadline deals. He
also mentioned the the name Cristian Nazarit. Nazarit, or Nazarith as his wikipedia page spells it,
currently plays for Independiente Santa Fe in Colombia.
Posted a little bit ago on Twitter was this comment from Raza Deportiva. For those that don't read
Spanish, or don't want to pull up a translator, it basically says that Sporting KC is going to pay
a $2 million transfer fee for Colombian holding midielder, Diego Chara. I've been unable to find
anything other than that Tweet that links him with the SKC Wizards, but I did find this article
that says that Chara has been sold to MLS for $2 million.
It's amazing how quickly news moves in today's age. Earlier today I was shown this article from
Ecuador saying that former LDU Quito forward, Franklin Salas was on his way to KC. The article made
it sound like the deal was done. After Tweeting about the rumor, it was picked up by Charles Gooch
from the Star and The Full 90.
Some interesting tweets today from the SKC Wizards president, Robb Heineman. It started late last
night when Heineman posted that a European attacking midfielder has agreed to come in on trial with
the team. The midfielder would apparently be a maximum salary, but adding a play making midfielder
would be a huge boost to the team.
Some quick news bits to touch on real quick.
First, yesterday the US national team scrimmaged the Canadian U-23 team down in California. Teal
Bunbury played and scored one of the goals in the USA's 4-0 win over the Canadian youth side. This
Saturday the US will be taking on Chile at the Home Depot Center.
Sunil Chhetri and the Indian national team get their AFC Asian Cup campaign started this week when
they take on Australia. It appears that Chhetri will have another set of eyes looking at him in the
game. Word out of Australia is that A-League side, Perth Glory, will be watching Chhetri with an
eye towards signing the forward.
Word out of Nigeria is that Sporting KC is interested in former U20 midfielder, Joseph Atang
Thompson. Thompson, a 21 year old midfielder currently plays for Kano Pillars FC in Nigeria.
Unfortunately it looks like there are some problems in Sporting's attempt to get Thompson to the
US. According to the article, the US embassy in Nigeria is refusing to issue a visa for Thompson to
come to the United States.
There's not been a whole lot of real interesting news lately involving KC and with that news
there's a few questions that have been in my mind, so here's some random questions.
Is KC going to sign Luke Sassano?
The Wizards traded for his rights from LA, but there's been next to no word about what's going on
with him.
