Kop favourite Craig Johnston believes Rafa Benitez may have lost the dressing room and that his
reign as Liverpool manager is hanging by a thread.
Benitez's side needed a controversial penalty to salvage a 2-2 home draw against Birmingham last
Monday night and have won just once since the end of September.

There are plenty of reasons to be disappointed with Rafa Benitez right about now.
Liverpool head into this weekend's match against Manchester United with the
prospect of lodging their fifth defeat on the trot. After such high expectations for this season,
Liverpool have been finally exposed as a two-man team.

As Liverpool prepares for the trip to Stamford Bridge to face arch rivals Chelsea in Sunday's
Premiership match, it would be fair to think of Chelsea as the favourites. Considering that
Liverpool had a terrible European night losing to Fiorentina, they would want to put things right
against Chelsea. The Blues also have the added incentive of putting the Wigan defeat to rest and
will hope to rise to the occasion.

Currently on loan at AEK Athens, 20 year Liverpool striker Krisztián Németh put in an excellent
man of the match performance against Atromitos last week.
Németh came on as a substitute in the 29th minute and showed composure, skill, strength and an end
product when he provided the assist for Ismael Blanco to score the winning goal.

Reading striker Simon Church during the season - with a view to signing him next year.
Former Liverpool boss Roy Evans has spoken to Rafa Benitez about the talented captain of Wales
Under-21s.
Evans, who is the Wales assistant boss, rates Church, 20, highly and has told Benitez to keep an
eye out for him in the Championship.

Liverpool FC's inability to win the title since 1990 has been blamed on a various people over the
years, including David Moores; Rick Parry; Graeme Souness; Roy Evans, Gerard Houllier and, most
recently, Tom Hicks and George Gillett. The real blame, however, for the club's abject failure to
bring home the trophy Bill Shankly famously called ‘our bread and butter' lies solely at the feet
of one man: former President of South Africa and anti-apartheid activist, Nelson Mandela.

Liverpool's experience of having come so close to winning the Premier League last season will stand
them in good stead for the coming campaign, believes former Anfield gaffer Roy Evans, who sees no
reason why Rafa Benitez's men can't go one better and end the club's twenty season wait for a
league title.

It was almost as if Rafa Benitez had been there before. In the ECHO this week, the Liverpool
manager felt compelled to explain the reasons for the £17million he shelled out to bring in a
right-back.
"Sometimes you have to spend a little bit more," admitted the Liverpool boss following his capture
of Glen Johnson from Portsmouth, confirmed last night when the 24-year-old signed a four-year deal.

The 4-4 draw with Arsenal was admittedly a hammer blow for Liverpool's title chances...but who
cares when the game was so exciting! Certainly not me. I'd rather watch that kind of game every
week and never win anything that play negatively and win the league every year.
Yes, that sounds ridiculous but it's how I really feel.

Today's (regrettable) events at Old Trafford have highlighted the massive difference in approach
between Rafael Benitez and Alex Ferguson when it comes to utilising young players.
With 20 minutes remaining in today's vital, must-win game against Aston Villa, Manchester United
were losing 2-1 and didn't look like getting back into the game.

Liverpool's reserves lost in the league for the first time in over a year last week, a record that
brings back happy memories of an era where the second string used to routinely win the Pontins
League under the guidance of future first team manager Roy Evans.
The strategy back then was also very similar tot e one that Rafael Benitez has been adopting even
if the range of nationalities has been widened drastically.

Liverpool have won their opening two premiership games for the first time in a staggering 14 years.
Yes, you read that right: 14 years.
The last time the club achieved this seemingly rare feat was back in the 1994-95 season. Roy Evans
was at the helm; club legends John Barnes, Jan Molby and Ian Rush were still going strong; Phil
Babb and Neil Ruddock were in defence (*shudder*); Kenny Dalglish managed Blackburn to an
improbable Premiership triumph and Robbie Fowler scored 31 goals in all competitions.

Good Bob Paisley was laid to rest in his parish churchyard yesterday as Liverpool supporters
respected his family's request for privacy, and there were fewer than 100 gathered outside when the
simple coffin, adorned with red and white roses, was carried into St Peter's, Woolton. There will
be a more acclaiming memorial service in the city in the spring.

Jamie Carragher will only consider Liverpool title challengers next season if they are still in the
hunt with 15 games remaining.
It is almost two decades since the Reds were champions of England and veteran defender Carragher
has been involved for more than half of that period.
In recent years, Liverpool have been among the favourites to lift the Barclays Premier League crown
when the season kicks off but their challenge has invariably faltered.

It was the summer when football came home, England were half-decent and Paul Gascoigne had his last hurrah. It was also the summer when English football, inspired by the European Championships being held on home soil, really started to open up to foreign players.
For Liverpool that meant Patrick Berger.
