Hope Solo goes up against Brazil today
In a short while, team USA plays what will be one of its most important matches - important
because the trope of the USA being a dominant force in women's soccer rides on how they perform in
this World Cup. The competition has seen Norway and Germany crash out, two traditional rivals of
the US and in their place France and Japan have been installed as rising powers.
Dance. The essence of movement. The embodiment of rhythm. A fine, practiced discipline designed
for entertainment and expression. Football, it's own form of dance. Two teams, two styles. Style
deeply rooted in culture, passion, and attitude. An attitude that defines the way in which we play
and perform.
Two goals from Marta helped Brazil beat Norway and move the Brazilians into the quarter-finals
of the Women's World Cup.
Norway now face Australia in the final group match with the winner joining Brazil in the last
eight. The South Americans need just a point from their final outing against Equatorial Guinea to
guarantee top spot.
Marta
, the Leo Messi of the women's game,
lit up the World Cup with a
stunning brace as Brazil swatted Norway aside 3-0.
After an unconvincing 1-0 opening win against Australia, the Brazilians, losing finalists in the
last World Cup and Olympics, were on fire in Wolfsburg
today.
Brazil! They did open the World Cup with a win, but it wasn't particularly impressive over
Australia, only one goal scored in the match. Norway is expected to be a tougher opponent, though
many have tipped Australia and Brazil as the two teams to advance.
Anthems. Brazil's is peppy, Norway's is somber.
Brazil's '
Mulher of the moment' is undoubtedly
Rosana, who scored the
winning goal against Australia in Brazil's opening game of the Women's World Cup last week. The
midfielder who plays for Centro Olimpico in Sao Paulo told Futbolita about her thoughts living the
dream at the Women's World Cup.
The Copa America officially kicks off today, and like Neymar's hair, everyone
will be staying up to watch the best in South American football as they fight for the
trophy. Of course, it's normal for the Seleção to be feeling the pressure ahead of their
tournament opener against Venezuela on Sunday, but they're doing it in true Brasileiro
style, with the laid-back swag and Bromance in tow!
Rosana's 54th minute goal really should not have been. The Matildas were guilty of indulging the
Brazilians entry into their box. They had at least three chances to clear or muscle them off the
ball. Be that as it may, when the moment came Rosana niftily flicked the ball onto her left side
creating a clear path to goal and her volley had both power and direction carrying it away from
Melissa Barbieri.

The U.S. men's national team won't be the only team to suffer from Steve Cherundolo's ankle
injury.
Having picked up the knock in the Gold Cup final against Mexico last Saturday, Cherundolo has
been ruled out for four weeks, meaning he will miss all of Hannover 96's preseason
preparations.
A wonderful goal scored by Rosana and created by Cristine ensured Brazil got
their 2011 Womens World Cup off toa winning start as they beat Australia 1-0 in the final opening
game.
