Some talking points from last night's disappointing, but somewhat fortunate, nil-nil draw at home
to the Fire:
- Is it just me or is Kpene backsliding? The kid was so promising early in the season, but now
the touch and the daring, and perhaps a bit of the fire (no pun intended), seem to have faded. I
think that has everything to do with confidence.
This one wasn't looking pretty before kickoff. With Fred injured and Gomez and Moreno ailing, the
keys were handed to Rodion Sergeyevich Dyachenko. Now, pardon the tangent here, but I do have a
science background and I'm pretty familiar with relativistic physics and bodies in motion and
whatnot, so can someone explain how putting Dyachenko in midfield instead of up top not only makes
him about 800 times better, but also makes him physically faster?
Pirate style? Well, admittedly, I'm going into this half-blind as I was only able to catch the
second half, and that on a tiny window on the SuperLiga website. Add to the mix that the site was
all kinds of fussy using both Safari and Camino, so I missed swathes of action while blocks of data
swam and swirled, buffered and broke. This is 2007, right?
I'm late on this one so there are plenty of recaps out already. DCenters, BDR, QuarterVolley,
Fullback Files, and An American's View all have good stuff.
This game made me realize that we need depth up top more than we need it at back. Gros, McTavish,
and espeically Burch showed very well considering how long they've been playing those positions.
