Atlanta and Memphis are talking about new teams joining the fray as early as next year. Then, and another move that's certain to shake up the USL Eastern Conference, Rochester Rhinos coach Bob Lilley came back to Pennsylvania to become the new head coach of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

As the USL season winds down and the top teams scratch and claw for position in the increasingly tight playoff races this year, it'd be easy to forget that there's a new piece of hardware that's up for grabs in 2017.

The Old Guard Shield was announced back in February to much fanfare from the USL and the eligible teams.

Last Friday morning, you might have noticed a pretty interesting story develop. Headed up by the Steel Army out in Pittsburgh, the Old Guard Shield is an upcoming regular season tournament (think Cascadia Cup) between the Rochester Rhinos, Richmond Kickers, Harrisburg City Islanders, Charleston Battery and (obviously) the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

The USL released the home openers yesterday for every team in the league ahead of a schedule release which should be sometime next week. That being said, we know who Bethlehem Steel FC will face when they open Goodman Stadium for their second season.
