January was another interesting month at the Lamex Stadium. After an unbeaten December and with
Stevenage now in the shake up for the League 1 play-offs, Graham Westley was a wanted man. GW and
his team were snapped up by Preston North End after weeks of uncertainty over his future. A new era
has begun at Stevenage with Gary Smith appointed as the new manager.
Karl Robinson and his Milton Keynes Dons side make the short journey down to the Lamex tomorrow
night in what could be a pivotal match as both sides look to cement their position in the League 1
play-off positions. MK Dons sit one place above Stevenage going into the game, although the Dons
are 5 points clear with the bonus of a game in hand.
Stevenage are on the road again this weekend as they make a trip up to Glanford Park to face
Alan Knill's Scunthorpe United. Boro are still managerless after Graham Westley's departure last
Friday, but they will be confident going into the game after a run of 10 away games in all
competitions without defeat.
FC Boro has returned. After deciding to call it a day back in August, the desire to get this
place up and running again has come back after the events of recent weeks. It's not totally back as
it was as I've still got a few issues to iron out with the domain name and pictures etc, but the
blog is back, just as Stevenage FC enter a new era after the departure of Graham Westley.

Sending young players out on loan to build experience is standard practice at top Premier League
clubs, and Liverpool is no exception. However, Reserve team coach Rodolfo Borrell is worried that
some loan moves can be counter-productive, and he argues that this has been the case for promising
young striker Nathan Eccleston.
Liverpool's Ressies easily beat Sundeland's 5-1 at melwood this afternoon at Melwood.
Rodolfo Borell had the chance to pick Jay Spearing, Jonjo Flanagan and Sebastian Coates from the
first team squad thanks to Kenny Dalglish's wish to give them playing time ahead of the Carling Cup
tie with Chelsea this night week.

There was nothing concrete upon which to link Birmingham City winning the League Cup with their
relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season, of course, but it didn't stop some
from asserting exactly this and it hasn't stopped panicky-looking managers whose main ambition for
this season is to finish seventeenth in the Premier League from effectively binning England's
second cup competition.
We've all been there: the hubris and cockiness borne of conviction and enthusiasm coming back to
bite us firmly in the backside. And so it was on Saturday for the Bury fans - rejoicing at being
back in League 1 and fortified by pre-match pints in the metal box of a social club adjacent to
Gigg Lane (£1 in for non-members; distinct odour of hot dogs, cooking lager and sweat) - who

If the start of this season in League One has been notable for one thing, it has been for the
under-achievement of those clubs which arguably over-achieved last season. After seven matches, the
bottom four of Rochdale, Bournemouth, Leyton Orient and Exeter City are all clubs did extremely
well when swimming against the current last season, but all are finding the going to be
considerably more difficult this time around.
Klinsmann will spend time in EuropeU.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann is taking full advantage of his time in Europe following the match
against Belgium, traveling across the continent to visit current and future U.S. prospects. Here's
the breakdown:
Sept. 7 - Jurgen watched Stuart Holden play 65 minutes for Bolton's reserves against Rochdale in
the Manchester Senior Cup.
Stuart Holden passed his second test.
Holden started and played 65 minutes in Bolton's 1-1 draw with Rochdale (Bolton won 6-5 in
penalties) in a reserve match on Wednesday in rainy conditions. Playing in front of U.S. national
team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, Holden emerged unscathed and is set for the next challenge on his
comeback road.
Why Warnock's wrong about the Carling Cup and Twitter cowards get my goat plus my new
tattoo
Shamoe on the managers who treat the Carling Cup as a second-class pot and claim they are glad
to be out of it. Neil Warnock, who has never won a major trophy in his life, reckons QPR are better
off without the distraction of the Carling Cup after they were humbled by Rochdale.
Did he mean it, then, or was he merely to trying to cover his embarrassment? Neil Warnock is, of
course, what is commonly referred to as a "character". He can, however, be a walking contradiction
at times, and it often feels as if, just as you're in danger of warming to him, he will say
something as if to remind you of why many supporters call him by an anagram if his name which is,
well, fairly obscene.
Two matches in and there are already a few things we know about the Premiership.
1 The second best team in the Premiership is Manchester United reserves
2 It is not going to be a good season for north London clubs
3 City's Aguero is going to be brilliant but alas not in every game
4 Steve Kean has got two more matches to get a few points or else those chickens will come home
to roost.

I don't understand why so few Premier League clubs pay any attention to the Carling Cup as it is
their only chance to win a trophy.
The Premier League will be decided between six sides. In all liklihood, those six teams will
also win the FA Cup. That means that the only option for a team to win a trophy is the Carling
Cup.

Football is the dream of many youngsters, but only a few get the chance to turn this dream into
a reality. Even among these few, there are those who need a second chance to showcase the talents
that are unique to them.
In an exciting project developing in Spain, coach John Gontier is leading the way for many of
England's struggling young football players to keep believing in their dreams.

programme, a pie and a coffee.
