Bolton Wanderers 1-2 Wigan Athletic Premier League 11th February 2012
Roberto Martinez' Wigan side moved to within one point of rivals Bolton on Saturday, after the
Latics secured what could be a pivotal victory at the Reebok.
Poka, Pav
It has been one hell of a busy fortnight in the world of Tottenham Hotspur – and not a whisper of
any of it from The Boys From White Hart Lane. For shame.
So, in a desperate attempt to catch up - and stay relevant – TBFWHL is taking a look back at 14
days in which Spurs stumbled into the fifth round of the FA Cup, re-entered the title race after a
brief remission and brought in a couple of battle-hardened veterans at the expense of a cult hero.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez was left furious when Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto was
allowed to remain on the pitch despite a high tackle that forced forward Franco Di Santo out of the
Latics' 3-1 defeat at White Hart Lane.
With his side firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, the only positive
Martinez could reflect on was the mild nature of Di Santo's injury.

Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Wigan Athletic Premier League 31st January 2012
Welsh wing-wizard Gareth Bale was once again Tottenham's star performer as the north Londoners
got their title tilt back on track at White Hart Lane in front of Harry Redknapp, who was back in
the dug-out to watch his charges win.

Queens Park Rangers 3-1 Wigan Athletic Premier League 21 January 2012
After seeing his side produce an impressive performance against Wigan at Loftus Road on Saturday
afternoon, new QPR boss Mark Hughes surely wouldn't have cared what his players were Tweeting
about.
Roberto Martinez No-one can say that Roberto Martinez is not likeable, but personality does not a
successful manager make. Wigan have now won just two of their last 20 games in all competitions,
sit bottom of the Premier League and went out of the FA Cup to League Two Swindon a fortnight ago.
In truth [.
The Manchester City manager is set to be reprimanded by the FA, the English Football
Association, for his consistent card waving gestures. The gestures typically involve Roberto
Mancini waving a closed hand, with finger and thumb touching exclusively, high above his head,
indicating that the referee should award a card, either yellow or red, to an opponent.
Patrick van Aanholt is off once again. Vitesse announced today that the 21-year-old fullback
will be joining the Dutch club on loan for the remainder of the season.
In need of games
This is pretty good news. While the Eredivisie is a clear step down in competition from the
Premier League, van Aanholt should have a chance to receive significant minutes after an egregious
loan spell during the first half of the season.
After a very disappointing first half against Liverpool and a distinct lack of cutting edge in
the 2nd half, Wigan away is probably one of the best places to go right now for a game to build up
your confidence again. I mean that with respect of course, but there is no denying that Wigan
aren't having a great season.
Wigan forward Victor Moses is being linked with a possible move away from the DW Stadium after the
player's agent revealed that he is yet to sign a new contract.
The former Crystal Palace player initially struggled to make the step up to the Premier League but
this season has rediscovered his best form and has been one of Wigan's best players.

After starting the season with their customary 4-3-3 formation, Wigan have now lined up in a
3-4-3 system ever since their 3-3 draw with Blackburn on November 19th. Roberto Martinez trialled
the system in a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on October 1st, but then reverted back to his familiar
4-3-3 for their following game against Bolton.

A lot is made of the culture that Sir Alex Ferguson has built at Manchester United, and the
foundation is built on an insatiable thirst for winning.
You can certainly see it on the field when watching the Red Devils take on English Premier League
opponents, but if you can't pinpoint that x-factor on the field, listen to comments by Manchester
United players, coaches and rivals.
It is being reported today that the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to make a £5 million bid
for the out of favour Wigan Athletic striker Hugo Rodallega. If sources are to be believed, the
Colombian has fallen out with manager Roberto Martinez and is looking to secure a move away from
the DW [.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has joined the growing list of people citing 'cultural differences'
as a possible defence for Luis Suarez's comments towards Patrice Evra. Martinez - who was nicknamed
'El Judas by angry Swansea fans when he defected to Wigan in 2009 - outlined the problems overseas
players sometimes face when settling into a new country.

In a match in which the build-up was impossible to ignore, Liverpool once again work themselves
into a corner, failing to create anything dangerous in a match that they ultimately looked lucky to
get a point from. It's always the same story with this iteration of Liverpool looking promising
early, create a few clear-cut chances, and then piss it all away with dire football that isn't
deserving of three points, let alone one.
Roberto Martinez will give striker Hugo Rodallega as much time as possible...
'Tis the season, for snatching a stocking full of points at White Hart Lane.
Hey, it's that guy
Man. This is kind of big, huh?
Win, lose or draw in Wigan over the weekend, this match with Tottenham was always going to be a
pivotal one. Not that matches with Spurs aren't always showcase events, but this season the derby
seems to be taking on a bit more weight with both clubs in the pursuit of Champions League football
for 2012-13.

After drawing 1-1 with Chelsea at the weekend, Wigan host Liverpool as Roberto Martinez tries to
haul his side out of the relegation zone.
Wigan halted an eight-game losing streak with a 3-3 home draw against Blackburn Rovers a month
ago.
Since then, they have lost only one of their past five matches, a 4-0 home reverse to Arsenal
sandwiching 2-1 wins over Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion.
Wigan Manager Roberto Martinez has revealed his admiration for the team Kenny Dalglish has put
together this season, and he's expecting a very tough game at the DW stadium tomorrow. In his
weekly press conference earlier today, Martinez - who was nicknamed 'El Judas by Swansea fans when
he left for Wigan - was full of praise for Liverpool:"They are very impressive.
Martinez and Dalglish agree – there's more to Liverpool than Suarez
THE FESTIVE fixture list continues for Liverpool tomorrow night at the DW Stadium when Kenny
Dalglish's side take on Roberto Martinez's Wigan Athletic. Kenny has almost a full-strength squad
at his disposal but there won't be a return – for now at least – for Steven Gerrard.
Latics Reds not one-man team
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is expecting a tough game against Liverpool irrespective of
whether Luis Suarez is available to play.

Liverpool look to continue on their winning ways against wiga at the DW Stadium on Wednesday.
Bouyed by their comfortable win at Villa Park on Sunday, Kenny Dalglish's men will be looking to
keep the pressure on Roberto Martinez side who lie near the bottom of the League.
Expect a comfortable win away at Wigan as we look to move up the table over the Christmas.
Jordi Gomez claims Wigan will welcome Liverpool to the DW Stadium on Wednesday confident in their
ability to pull off another shock result.
The Latics impressed many observers on Saturday evening as they stunned Chelsea with a dramatic
late show on home soil.
Gomez's goal two minutes from the end of that contest saw Wigan take what could be a priceless
point from the title-chasing Blues.
Is this the worst hat ever? It might just be. This Wigan fans donned a festive hat, probably in
anticipation of a stuffing at the hands of Chelsea. But it wasn't to be as Jordi Gomez bagged a
late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw for the Latics. Great news for Roberto Martinez, but not [...]
Some would call it robbery, a late Jordi Gomez goal denying Chelsea a fourth consecutive victory
on Saturday at the DW Stadium. However, robbery would imply that the visitors actually deserved to
win. That, my friends, was hardly the case.

What is it with this team?

Wigan Athletic 1-1 Chelsea Premier League 17th December 2011
After excellent wins against Valencia in the Champions League and Manchester City in the Premier
League, Chelsea were brought back down to earth with a bump at the DW Stadium against a Wigan side
who fully deserved a share of the points.
Tonight Chelsea have a chance to get another important three points as we take on Wigan at the DW.
Our recent run has been impressive beating the likes of Newcastle and Manchester City in the
Premier League but it's games like tomorrow that Chelsea have to ensure they approach the same way.
Our good run will all come to nothing if we do not perform tomorrow.
We need a win. This man needs a game.
