Brazil and England was going to be a reserve festival, as injuries took away many players from
the match. So if in theory this is a match with no favorites, in reality, Brazil got that title as
it had less players in the ER. Brazil had the responsibility to play better and add another match
to the unbeaten streak against England that is 19 years-old.

The Offside's Main Page decided to compile a list of the "100 Best Players of the Decade." I
thought it might be of some interest to you, especially since Arsenal is out of action for a couple
of weeks. It was voted on by all of the Offside's bloggers, as well as readers. I will say that I
thought the criteria was a little vague it was simply to name the 20 best players who played in the
decade.

I realize that the last official football match to take place at Giants Stadium was almost two
weeks ago between the Red Bulls and Toronto FC, but I still figured I'd throw my two cents in on
what was once a football mecca in this country. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking
about the Meadowlands is very mixed feelings.

Roma-Inter from May of 1999 is another highly entertaining game from one of the most
entertaining Serie A seasons of all time. The 1998-99 season had 3 leaders of the table (for the
first part of the season it was Fiorentina, who were winter champions but were then hurt by the
injury of Batistuta, then Lazio, who looked on their way to the Scudetto but fell off form towards
the end, and then Milan who surprised everyone and stole the Scudetto on the last day).

Up until last week, the Brasileirao seemed the tournament no one wanted to win. The favorites
kept losing points with pale football. But the 30th round shows signs of change by two sides.
Flamengo and Atletico-MG want to take the title home after a long time.
While Palmeiras, Sao Paulo, Inter and Goias gave another display of loss of steam, the two sides
pocketed the three points in very important matches.

The US is going to another World Cup. (Getty Images)
Editor's Note: Geoff Reid appears at WVHooligan each week. Today he is back to recap the
recent World Cup clinching match for the US against Honduras. Feel free to leave Geoff your
thoughts below.
It's been a few days since the US national team secured qualification for South Africa next
summer so now would be a good time to recap the latest events that took place in San Pedro Sulsa on
Saturday night.

In early 2001, watching a game at North Sydney Oval with a friend, I noticed a familiar figure
sitting a few seats across from me. Approaching him rather sheepishly, I excused myself and blurted
that he was the finest Australian football commentator I'd heard, and that he always made football
a pleasure to watch (or words to that effect).

You couldn't pick a bigger stage to make a name for yourself than UEFA's
Champions League. When a European minnow is pitted against a traditional superpowerÂ
like Liverpool or Inter Milan, one tricky move or decisive goal can instantly
transform you from a no-name footballer into the hottest property around.

World Cups are remembered for their star players as much as the winning team. Roberto Baggio in

tournaments...

This article in the Vanguard sums up the anguish and anger fans of the Super Eagles are feeling
after their 2-2 draw against Tunisia in Abuja. Their faltering hopes for a World Cup berth now lie
on the hopes of winning against Kenya and Mozambique and a Tunisian loss to either of these
countries.

Most Italian soccer fans should be familiar with the name of Andrea Russotto. As a youngster he
was dubbed as "the next Roberto Baggio" and "Antonio Cassano with a level head"
but up until now he has not even been close to living up to those names. His story is a bit
particular, and for those of you that don't know it here it is.

I was 10. I barely remembered 1990's World Cup (except for the fact that Argentina kicked Brazil
out). Brazil hadn't won any World Cup title since 1970 and all I could relate to were my
grandfather's stories of when he was in Mexico ans saw Pele, Rivellino, Jairizinho and Tostão put
on a show to win Brazil's third World Title.

The game, at its most basic, is about putting the ball in the back of the net. In order to be a
great FORWARD, you have to be able to score. Tracking back on defense is nice. Being a great passer
and playmaker is good, too. However if you can't score, [...]

So when I was a little kid watching calcio back in the '90's, my idol was none other than
Roberto Baggio. Everything about him amazed me: his technique and skill, his perfect free kicks,
the way he just slipped past defenders like they were practice cones, the amazing goals he scored,
everything.

Roberto Baggio. Giuseppe Signori. Marco Di Vaio. What do all these players have in common? Yes
they are all Italian, yes they are all strikers, but the main similarity is that when each of these
players went to play for Bologna, their careers were rejuvenated.
There is something about the capital city of the Emilia-Romagna region that just rejuvenates a
player's career.

Since retiring from the calcio world, Roberto Baggio has dedicated himself to his family and has
stepped out of the limelight, preferring to live the normal life. Every now and again he'll give
the odd interview, and when he does it's always interesting to see what the most skillful player
Italy has produced in the last 25 years has to say about the current state of the calcio world.
