Landon Donovan and Jack McInerney stole the headlines over the weekend and deservedly so as both put in man-of-the-match performances for their respective teams. But lost in the glitz of LA's marquee matchup and Jack Mac's two goals was the strong play of another young striker out in Utah.
Real Salt Lake defeated Western Conference rivals Seattle Sounders with a 2-1 win at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday. The home team scored through Robbie Findley and Luis Gil in the first half, whereas as the visitors pulled one back through Brad Evans.
Both teams were going into the game with poor form by their standards.
It was a familiar story line for the Sounders in Salt Lake. A miserable first half gave way to a second-half push that just wasn't enough in a losing effort.
While Real Salt Lake only won 2-1, the quality gap between the two teams was much wider in reality. Salt Lake played with a purpose and clear plan of attack, while Seattle often looked lost when it had the ball.

Real Salt Lake may have needed 70 minutes to break through San Jose’s defenses, but Álvaro Saborío then scored twice inside 15 minutes to give Salt Lake the win over San Jose.
The MLS Draft goes down today in Indianapolis. (Despite the billing, this is not a SuperDraft. You tell me Falcao is available today, I'll change my mind.) But it's the player movement around this shapes the team a little bit more.
No big surprise here, but the Portland Timbers came out and confirmed that they had traded the rights for Robbie Findley to Real Salt Lake in exchange for an unknown amount of allocation money. Reports surfaced earlier in the week, however, that the amount of money exchanged between the Timbers and Salt Lake was to the tune of $75,000.
The Portland Timbers introduced their new head coach on January 8, and also could be introducing several new players to their first team roster over the next few days. One officially added to the first team is former Timbers U-23 player and University of Portland product Steven Evans, as the Pilot midfielder signed a Home Grown Player deal with the Timbers.
It looks like Ives Galarcep is reporting that Robbie Findley could be returning to MLS, but not to the Portland Timbers who have held his rights for the past few years while he dabbled in the English Championship. According to Ives, Real Salt Lake have traded for the rights to Robbie Findley ands plan on bringing him back very soon.
SEATTLE, Wa.– Fabian Espindola is a man with a lot to celebrate these days.
He became a father last Friday, and his goal in the 51st minute in front of 39,312 at CenturyLink
Field gave Real Salt Lake (8-3-2) a 1-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders (7-2-1) on Saturday
night.
Nottingham Forest took to its website this morning to announce that Robbie Findley and the club have agreed to mutually terminate the contract. This, effectively, has left Robbie Findley as a free agent in the rest of the world, or as a Portland Timbers player within the United States. However, seeing as how the Timbers are currently stacked with forwards at the moment, there would simply be no place for him here.
Robbie Findley is set to begin a one-month loan to Gillingham FC of England's League Two the BBC reports. After scoring six goals in 27 games last season for Nottingham Forest, the former Real Salt Lake striker is yet to appear for Forest in this year's Championship or any other first-team competition.
The UEFA Champions League group stage is within reach for two Americans, but their teams will
need to overcome first-leg deficits if they are to maintain hopes of competing on Europe's biggest
stage and join the likes of Americans Jermaine Jones and Michael Parkhurst in the tournament
field.
Michael Bradley proved last season that he is more than capable of playing well in Serie A, but
now he will have to show that he can do so with the pressure that comes from playing at one of the
league's premier clubs.
Bradley is set to officially begin his AS Roma tenure on Sunday, as the club kicks off its
2012-2013 campaign against Catania.
FC Nordsjaelland may have routed Silkeborg IF in their match this weekend, but Michael Parkhurst
was at the front and center to helping them cruise to victory.
Parkhurst played a vital part in Nordsjaelland's early success in their 6-1 win on Saturday,
setting up the opener from the right flank in the third minute before scoring the eventual winner
three minutes later.
Two Americans are still in contention for the FA Cup, and both will try and punch their tickets
to the tournament final against some of the Premiership's most talented teams.
Tim Howard and Brad Friedel are a step away from playing for some hardware, but respective
matches against Chelsea and Liverpool await.

Michael Bradley was one of the key figures in the U.S. men's national team's upset win over
Italy on Wednesday in part because of his ability to contain Andrea Pirlo.
His club, Chievo Verona, will be hoping Bradley can replicate that type of outing this
weekend.
Timmy Chandler's future with Nurnberg may be up in the air, but the American is still likely to
be relied upon by the club this weekend.
Even with Nurnberg handing him an ultimatum earlier this week, Chandler is likely to be in the
club's lineup for its match against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
Jonathan Spector and Birmingham City were unable to grab three points and threaten the Championship

Middlesbrough.

all of his remaning games with the club, this weekend's match might be at the top of his list.

Terry, Juan Mata and Florent Malouda.

a complete mess after Leicester City's goalie fails to hold onto a cross. Findley's club,

Here's something that you might have missed if you don't pay regular attention to MLS's Extra Time Radio podcast. This last Monday, Gavin Wilkinson took the stage and spoke with the guys over there. While much of the conversation was pretty basic stuff, most of which we've known about for weeks if not months, they did bring up a couple players that we've all been very interested in since the 2010 Expansion Draft: Jonathan Bornstein and Robbie Findley.
Jack McInerney scored in the US U-23 team's 1–1 draw with the USMNT. McInerney, Amobi Okugo,
and Freddy Adu started the first half. Zac MacMath and Sheanon Williams started the second
half.
John Hackworth says of Tom Brandt, the Union's first pick in the Supplemental Draft, "We wanted
to get a quality player in the back and we feel like we did that with Tom Brandt.
Puebla beware. Herculez Gomez is starting to get hot again.
Just as he has done so often in the past couple of years, Gomez is starting to put together a
scoring run. He has found the back of the net three times for Santos Laguna in the past
week-and-a-half, and will look to add to that this weekend when DaMarcus Beasley and Puebla come
into town.
A busy night for England's Championship on Tuesday catching up on games postponed by weather over
the weekend. Jonathan Spector was in the starting lineup for Birmingham City, drawing 0-0 with
Hull. Birmingham finished with three shots on goal to Hull's one. "When you're not at your best it
is important that you don't lose," Birmingham manager Chris Hughton said.
The German Bundesliga kicks back into full gear this weekend, and with it could come a direct
head-to-head duel between a pair of U.S. men's national team players.
Steve Cherundolo and Fabian Johnson could do battle when Hannover 96 and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
resume their Bundesliga campaigns on Saturday.
With the Championship scheduling league games during the FA Cup 5th Round weekend, Robbie Findley
took advantage with a strong substitute performance for Nottingham Forest. Entering at halftime,
Finley helped kick start the Forest offense in a 2-0 defeat of Coventry. Garath McCleary scored in
the 74th minute and Findley made it 2-0 in the 86th.
US striker Robbie Findley show's how not to do it as he misses from less than two yards in
Nottingham Forest's FA Cup 3rd round Replay against Leicester City.
Nottingham Forest forward Robbie Findley bagged his first goal since mid-November in a 2-0 win over
Coventry that lifted them out of the drop zone for the first time since... well... late November.
The U.S. international chested down to slot the insurance tally with four minutes left.I would
generally assume we'll need to wait for a clip until after BBC's Football League Show tonight.
All of a sudden and as unlikely as it may seem, Forest's Robbie Findley finds himself with some
strong competition for the 'rubbish miss of the day' honours in the guise of Zenit striker Danny
who really fnarked things up against Bunyodkor in the 2012 Dubai Matchworld Cup last night.
The Portland Timbers announced a trade today with Real Salt Lake on the eve of the 2013 MLS Super Draft, while the Portland Thorns FC learned their position amongst the eight clubs participating in the first ever NWSL College Draft on Friday, January 18. Considering how busy the Timbers have been with trades and other moves, soccer fans should expect plenty of movement.
Rangers' hopes of winning the league for a fourth consecutive season are all but over, but that
likely won't stop this weekend's match against first-place Celtic from being as fervent as
usual.
Rangers host Celtic on Sunday in a game that should still be intense despite Celtic's 21-point
lead in the league.
We pick our Camp Cupcake USMNT starting XI to face Venezuela. It will be similar to Klinsmann's
selection, just better. We also play a USMNT abroad-themed game of Over/Under with Taylor and give
our reactions to Eric Wynalda's already infamous speech and Robbie Findley's seemingly impossible
miss.
Leicester deserved to win, probably by more than four goals. In the brief interludes of pressure
from the home side Robbie Findley spurned the chance to equalise with an open goal from 2 yards, he
somehow put it over. Harewood too should've done better with a later chance [...] Read the original
