There are few things more fun than going on a roadtrip to watch your team play. As you may
remember, I documented my experience going with ECS to Vancouver. Well, if you're looking for
something to do this weekend, ECS wants to make sure you are more than welcome to join them.
From the look of it, there is no organized bus trip, but they are organizing carpools and
helping people finding lodging.
While construction wrapped up on their state-of-the-art stadium, Sporting KC was forced to play
their first 10 MLS games on the road. Sporting went 1-6-3 during the beginning of the year roadtrip
and we were all wondering if the team could recover. Well Sporting KC has officially bounced
back.
KC won for the fourth time in six games Sunday night, topping DC United 1-0 in the sixth game of
a nine-game homestand to improve to 9-7-9 overall and move to second place in the Eastern
Conference.
So KC finished up their 10 game road trip by going 1-6-3 after their 0-0 draw in Toronto last
weekend. Now with it over let's take a look at the other two extended road trips that teams have
gone on before the opening of their own soccer specific stadiums. LA in 2003 and Chicago in 2006
went on extended road trips before the opening the Home Depot Center and Toyota Park opened
respectively.
All six of the Cascadia Cup matches will be played on weekends, which should at least waylay
some of the fears supporters had about travel arrangements. The first of the games will be played
on May 14 with the Seattle Sounders hosting the Portland Timbers. The Sounders will host the
Vancouver Whitecaps on June 11.
