playing against us looks pretty mighty).

Henry Celebrates on His ReturnIt just had to be, didn't it? Cometh the hour, cometh the man
and all that. Thierry Henry's brief two month loan move to his former club Arsenal got off to the
most dramatic of starts in London this evening, when the French legend scored a scintillating
second half goal that took the Gunners past Leeds United and into the next round of the FA Cup.
Major props to MLS for getting the schedule out earlier than ever in recent memory. Supporters
Groups can now plan trips to even the early games. I know one the questions at the fore for all of
the Timbers Army is if the unbalanced schedule going to help or hurt the Timbers. The answer to
that question depends on if Portland's follows the Trailblazers' unofficial philosophy, namely "get
energy from the fans at home and win (mostly) but go out on the road and get pushed around.

After being named the Week 3 MISL Player of the Week earlier this season, Baltimore Blast
goalkeeper Sagu has been named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Month for November. Sagu was the clear
cut favorite for the award after posting a 4-1 record in addition to a 9.

The Philly Soccer Page is fortunate to be able to share its readers the work of five
staff photographers: Daniel Gajdamowicz, Earl Gardner, Michael Long, Paul Rudderow and Nicolae
Stoian. Along with photographs by contributing photographers Nate Monahan and Eryin Wandel, we
present a look back at the Union's 2011 home season along with the road games we were able to
cover, special events and more.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia men's soccer team visits Virginia Tech Friday evening in a key
ACC matchup. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Thompson Field. Live statistics as well as a link to a
subscription-based live video broadcast will be available at VirginiaSports.com.
Ranked as high as 21st nationally by Soccer America, the Cavaliers (9-5-0, 3-2-0 ACC) are looking
for key points in the ACC race.
Tonight's match is a must win for the Portland Timbers. Unfortunately, given their rocky past
with road games, it also makes it an unlikely win. The fact of the matter is that the Portland
Timbers have been on a down swing since the San Jose Earthquakes came to Portland and I just don't
know if the team can turn that around for the final two games.
Road To The Playoffs: Two Games To Go
The Portland Timbers have two games left and, despite a brutal loss to Houston on Friday, are
still within striking distance of the playoffs.
The New York Red Bulls, Portland Timbers, Chicago Fire, and DC United are all in competition for
the final wild card playoff spot.
There is a lot riding on tonight's game. Not only the play offs but as possibly the last game of
the year at home, there's an expectation from fans for the Timbers to go out with a win. So while a
win or loss tonight doesn't necessarily grant or take away the chance of the play offs, I'd still
say that this is easily one of the most important games of the season, right up there with the home
opener against the Chicago Fire and the home game against the Seattle Sounders.

The last time the Philadelphia Union played in Seattle it was their debut game as an expansion
team, a game that ended as a 2–0 loss. When asked after Saturday night's 2–0 victory over
Seattle what had changed in the 18 months since then, Peter Nowak replied bluntly, "The result
changed. That's more important than anything.
The Timbers training yesterday was fairly straight forward. After warm ups concentrating on
checking toward a player to receive a pass, the Timbers broke into a three team game with the top
scorer and best defender being bought lunch by Coach Spencer.
Omar Jasseh continued his trial with the team, combining well with other players several times
during practice and generally looking very slick with the ball.

CARSON, Calif.— The Los Angeles Galaxy have played in a number of big matches this season, but
all are dwarfed when compared to Wednesday's match against Monarcas Morelia in the CONCACAF
Champions League.
With a game against CS Herediano that can nearly lock-up entry into the knockout round of the
CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday and a Saturday game against the Vancouver Whitecaps that can
assure the MLS Cup Playoffs things were generally upbeat at Starfire for the Seattle Sounders.
There are still individual players who are carrying injuries and others recovering from
injuries/fitness that will change how Sigi Schmid manages his gameday lineups.
After spending the last two months at home, Sporting KC goes back onto the road where they'll take
on the surging Real Salt Lake. RSL has won their last 3 games, two of which were on the road. Last
week they defeated Seattle in Seattle 2-1 thanks to an own goal and a goal by Alvaro Saborio. Salt
Lake is currently ranked 4th in the very strong West and in place to have to play a wild card game
in the playoffs if they started tomorrow.
Colorado hosts Santos Laguna of the Mexican League tomorrow. This is the biggest CCL match the
Rapids will play, as Santos is by far the best team in the group but a win tomorrow would put
Colorado in the driver's seat for advancing into the knockout rounds. Game time tomorrow at the
Dick is 8pm and the game will be on FOX Soccer Channel.
The Air Force Academy women made a second half goal stand up on Friday night, while the men
needed a last-minute strike as the two teams each posted victories.
Megan Dozier's goal in the 71st minute lifted Air Force women's soccer to a 1-0 win over Weber
State at the Cadet Soccer Stadium.
At 4-2-0, the Falcons are off to their best start since the 2003 season.
It's time to accept that this is who Philadelphia Union is right now:
They're good enough to beat bad teams, draw mediocre teams, and lose to good ones.
The Union have won one game in the last two months and just two in the last three months. Their
record since June 1: 2 wins, 4 losses and 8 draws.
So how many MLS coaches do you think could give this interview in Spanish? Heck, for many of
them, giving an interview in English is hard enough. So here's to Dom, who is, after all, a former
Necaxa player.
I have little patience for midseason friendlies in general. I know in the best case scenarios,
they make money for the teams and give the staff a chance to assess players coming back to fitness
(Bruin and Cruz), as well as those new to or trialing with the squad (Camargo), as well as give
fans a chance to enjoy an exhibition.

The college season may still be in its infant stages but that doesn't mean there are no marquee
matches to watch.
No. 1-ranked Louisville will aim to stay perfect in its quest for a national title, but it will
have two tough road games against ranked opponents in a span of three days.

Wednesday we looked at where each Eastern Conference club stands at reaching the post season.
Today, we head out to the Western Conference.
So I won't waste any more time here with introductions. Here is what each Western Conference
team has left and how many points I think each has left in them.
There really is no place like home when it comes to Kansas.
After getting 10 road games under its belt before opening play in Livestrong Sporting Park,
Sporting Kansas City has made a dramatic U-turn to vault all the way to second place in MLS'
Eastern Conference. On the strength of two more home victories this past week -- including one over
rising contender D.

will need to get match fit quickly to really help LA come playoff time.
Do I even need to bother recapping this game? You might as well just read my last post. It
meets all the requirements: disappointment, 2-2 draw, second half comeback, Ballouchy being
useless... you know, the usual. Just when you think they can't draw against a crappier team, they
do. The Revs, proud owners of the most anemic offense in the league, still managed to take a 2-0
lead against New York and it took a 87th minute equalizer to walk away with a point.
The Houston Dynamo travel to face the New England Revolution tomorrow night with a chance to
move in to third place in the Eastern Conference. Standing in Houston's way is a Revolution team
whose playoffs hopes are slipping and the Dynamo's apparent inability to win a match on the road
this season.
The full schedule for the CONCACAF Champions League was released today. The Rapids schedule is (all
game times are 8pm MDT except for the final game):
August 17th - Isidro Metapan - DSG Park
August 23rd - @Real Espana - San Pedro Sula, Honduras
September 13th - Santos Laguna - DSG Park
September 21st - Real Espana - DSG Park
September 28th - @Isidro Metapan -Metapan, El Salvador
October 19th - @Santos Laguna - Torreon, Mexico - 6pm MDT
A tough draw with the final two games on the road.
The New England Revolution ended a nine-game winless streak as goalkeeper Matt Reis stymied D.C.
United with a string a super saves.
It was the Revs' (4-9-7, 19 pts.) first win since a 1-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps on May
14, while it was their first triumph away from home in 2011 after going 0-6-3 in nine previous road
games.
The Philly Soccer Page " Stat chat: Three road wins
The Union's record on the road is now 3–4–3, the third road win of the season being another
club record. In the first five road games, the Union earned six points on the road with a record of
2–3–0. In the last five road games, the Union also earned six points with a record of
1–1–3.
Another week down in MLS and another week that the draws keep most of the clubs where they were
a week ago. Only a couple movers in this week's rankings as Seattle leaped over Dallas, Portland
moved up and Colorado began their fall further down.
Hopefully next week we start seeing some changes again as the schedule gets fairly crowded with
midweek games and weekend games before the All-Star "break" next week.
You gotta love a road win, especially against a conference rival.
Sunday's emphatic 3–0 win over the Revolution—only the third time this season the Union have
scored more than two goals and the fifth time they have scored more than one—puts the Union back
on top of the Eastern Conference where the Union are undefeated against conference rivals with a
5–0–2 record.
Another road game today. In fact, we won't have another regular season home game until July 30th
against Toronto FC, a team that handily beat the Portland Timbers 2 - nil last March. Perhaps a
couple of road games is what the Timbers need, however, to get out of their funk. They know they
need a road win.
Kansas City goes on the road tomorrow for one of their last 4 road games of the season down in
Houston against the Dynamo. The Dynamo are on a 3 game unbeaten run, two ties and then a win last
week over Toronto. They are led by Brad Davis, who is currently leading the league in assists. His
crosses and free kicks have helped Brian Ching and Will Bruin to add to each of their goal totals.
Heading into Sunday's match against New England (7pm, CSN), the Philadelphia Union's their tenth
road game of the 2011 season, the Union's 2011 away record is 2–4–3.
Some of us may grumble that some of those draws should have been wins and some of those of those
losses should have been draws.

While some folks will be focused on the World Football Challenge matches that are set to begin,
or the opening of the last Harry Potter film, others will be concerned with the week 18 slate in
Major League Soccer.
Kind of a slow news day for the Timbers, well at least yesterday was. Seems like the only thing
anybody is talking about with regards to the team is Darlington Nagbe's goal and, well, there's
only so many articles you can read about a single goal, as fantastic as it was regardless.
Other news today focuses around Sporting KC's rise to prominence and how they only have a few
road games left and some player speculation outside of the Timbers.
KC is almost half way done with the season, after tomorrow's game against Colorado, KC will
officially hit the half way point of the season, playing 17 games. The second half of the season
will see KC play 13 of 17 games at home as the team only has 4 road games left. First though they
have to get through Colorado.
It's Friday going into the Fourth of July weekend and it's time for a few orange fireworks.
Dynamo head to Colorado on Sunday to take on the defending MLS champ Colorado Crapids. (I'm
sorry. No matter how many times I say, read or write that, I just cannot believe it. Oh well,
thanks to George John, at least I'm not applying that label to Frisco!
The DU women's soccer team will open the 2011 season in the inaugural Colorado Cup during a
schedule that features nine games at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium, head
coach Jeff Hooker announced Friday.
The Pioneers will face three 2010 NCAA Tournament teams, including Auburn and Middle Tennessee
at home, as well as hosting Nebraska in its first year in the Big 10.

Last night things got off to an interesting start in Columbus as the Crew took down RSL 2-1 in a
surprising result to some. The Crew came from behind to get the three points and moved up the
standings in the Eastern Conference in the process.
