Same old story

4
HEGS is back, but it feels, I must say, a bit like I hadn't really been away. When I left for Havana, Sergio Batista had named Lionel Messi in the squad for the Olympic Football Tournament, and Barcelona president Joan Laporta was making some decidedly 'we'll have to see about that'-type noises. The novel seems [. Click to continue reading...

Now, here's a surprise. River Plate may have just won the title after a long wait but manager Diego Simeone already knows he's still got to find a few missing pieces in the jigsaw to get the side playing the way he'd like. Another European move, and Racing are on the Llop…

It's an appalling pun I know. But the manager himself is a good one, according to Héctor García Cuervo, the administrator who chucked Blanquiceleste out on their ears a few weeks ago. The manager who (eventually) saved Racing from relegation will continue in his post next year. Meanwhile, Lanús youngster Lautaro Acosta has joined Sevilla, and [. Click to continue reading...

The unveiling

Somehow the announcement of a new River manager always seems to be met with slightly more fanfare than at other clubs.
