Spurs Star Happy To Be Good Friends With Arsenal Striker

1
The man hailed as the new Ronaldinho, Giovanni Dos Santos has said that Mexican team-mate Carlos Vela, will only be a foe on the pitch. The emerging Spurs star insists that he is good friends with Arsenal's new striker despite the great long running rivalry between the two's new clubs. Giovanni told FourFourTwo: ''We're only enemies on [. Click to continue reading...

Spurs Star Would LOVE To Have Arsenal Legend Henry At The Lane

2
SPURS play-maker Givovani Dos Santos has sensationally admitted that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry would be one of the former team-mates he would most love to follow him from Barcelona to White Hart Lane. The young Mexican clearly hasn't familiarised himself with the fierce north London rivalry between Tottenham and the Gunners yet, and the stink [. Click to continue reading...

Arsene Wenger: Legacy at the Crossroads

0
Football management produces stereotypes, geniuses, interesting characters and complete enigmas, in equal measure, but trying to fit Arsene Wenger into a single category is a challenge. I should preface this piece by declaring that, as a Man Utd fan, given the fierce rivalry of recent years and some of the unsavory scenes at the end [. Click to continue reading...

The Shock Heard Round The Prem

2
Let's just say at this point in his career, the only way Mikael Silvestre could've generated more press attention is if he was found nude doing lines off Fergie's ass with a transsexual rodeo clown down a dark Mancunian alley. Thankfully for us - and especially the good people of Manchester's alleys - he's decided [. Click to continue reading...

Sounders v. Quakes

2
Time for Seattle to beat down another MLS team.

This time in a September 2nd friendly at Buck Shaw Stadium.

And yes, this is the start of a rivalry. Maybe not a blood, sweat and tears one, but one nonetheless.
"We are excited to welcome Seattle to MLS next season," said Earthquakes Executive Vice President David Alioto.

MLS game #19: DCU @ Chicago Fire

0

The last time United visited Chicago, the team got a thrilling, last-minute win courtesy of a Luciano Emilio goal. I'd take a similar result this evening - you know, a win - but would prefer a little less drama. The team watched some film last night in preparation and will need to be ready for U.

Roma sign Julio Baptista and Canada stares down the US

1
Real Madrid have agreed to a transfer fee of €13m for Julio Baptista, nicknamed the beast to AS Roma. Its a signing that gives me some relief after loosing Mancini earlier this summer to Inter. So we lost a Brazilian and regained one at summers end. This signing should medicate my senses after the 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham this week. Click to continue reading...

Cobi Jones seeks to get Galaxy back on track

5

Before there was David Beckham in the US, there was Cobi Jones, the real deal. He was a lethal combination of talent, charisma, and oomph.

And before MLS decided to anoint Beckham as the saviour of the sport in this country, Jones was already doing more to bring soccer to everyone.

High stakes

1
Chivas USA-Galaxy is a big game. We all are pretty much aware of that.

But it's also a game that can cost people their jobs.History dictates as much.

In trying to figure out a different angle for this match, I decided to pursue the high-stakes angle. Click to continue reading...

Preki on the SuperClasico

0
Preki says his piece.
Notice how he downplays the rivalry with the Galaxy - that's been a successful tactic for him before. Incidently, Chivas USA have to win by more than three goals to retain the trophy, since the Galaxy have a 3-0 win and a draw on them.

MLS Destiny!

11
That was supposed to be a play on Manifest Destiny. You know, with the expansion and all?

MLS Rumors got the hot tip on which two cities are looking to be added by 2011:
My sources are adamant that the expansion teams have already been determined. Atlanta missed out. No word on Portland.

Aborted column topic

2
I had set out to write some of my column on the Chivas USA-Galaxy match and how the luster was off from this game. Then, I scrapped it and decided to write an all-Olympics column. I filed it, and then the Galaxy story about Ruud Gullit and Alexi Lalas broke.

We're still going with the Olympics stuff for tomorrow but when I follow up on the Galaxy and the Super Clasico later in the week, it will be with today's news in mind. Click to continue reading...

Red Bulls trounce D.C. United: A second look

When Jaime Moreno scored what seemed like his 100th career goal against the Red Bulls on Sunday you got the distinct feeling that the season was ready to slip away for the New York squad.

Rock bottom?

0
Did we just witness rock bottom for the 2008 edition of DC United? Because it sure feels that way to me. Maybe I am ascribing too much importance to the New York rivalry, but that was a joke out there. On the other hand, it shouldn't have come as a surprise though. Time and again, our [...] Click to continue reading...

A Very Big Win: Red Bulls 4 - 1 DC United

0

I told you the Bulls would score three didnt I?

A magnificent performance was put in by the home team, as the Bulls ran right at DC United, scoring 4 unanswered goals in a complete team victory. Juan Pablo Angel was huge as his midseason resurgance continues. Gabriel Cichero played his first game in MLS, and turned in an excellent performance, alongside Jeff Parke and Kevin Goldthwaite.

On Throwdowns

0
Former DC United boss Peter/Piotr Nowak, presently leading the US footie delegation in China, had a number of important phrases he would use as touchstones/talking points when talking to media during his time in DC. One of his favorites ran something along the lines of, "always ve haff to do tree tings: run, fight ant play good zoccer," essentially emphasizing a sort of holy trinity of fitness, spirit and technical/tactical quality as central tenets of his team's style. The End of an Era (For Now or Forever?)

3
It's over. Dunzo. Outta here like last year. And to put it in the most eloquent way I can think of...it totally sucks. The oldest existent soccer rivalry in the country has gone the way of the dodo and even though I'm not a supporter of either club --at least not officially, but I do have my preferences-- I have to say I'm kinda bummed for a few different reasons. The Premiership Talk Friday Five: Heated Rivalries

1
Every sporting competition in the world is filled with rivalries, and the English Premier League has an intense set of its own rivalries. Whether these rivalries are geographically influenced, competition influenced, or because of historical reasons, every team in the Premier League has its own "beef" with other clubs in the league. Access United: U.S. Open Cup preview

2

Do you fully understand the importance of next week's semifinal game against the New England Revolution in the Open Cup? I'm not sure that you do. United is one win away from playing for its 12th championship. The only thing standing in the way of another title shot is the New England Revolution.

What a Whore-ible Man

14
Despite sporting a very classy new tattoo sleeve on his left arm, Craig Bellamy is still an unpleasant piece of work; it's cute that he wants to be as street as D. Beck, but ultimately he's just a shit. This week then the West Ham striker continued on his mission to alienate as many people in the UK as humanly possible, after getting involved in a row with Ipswich fans as he was substituted at Monday night's game. Great Britain Team On The Horizon

0
It's a concept that has been debated for years but now it seems that a Great British football team will become a reality. Fifa President Sepp Blatter, who once suggested that women should wear tighter shorts to make the female game more attractive, has already given his support to the idea and it now appears that the FA are keen on the proposal as well. Portland v. Seattle: Opening Salvo

2
We haven't talked USL around here in while have we? Typically I try to watch FSC's game of the week with some consistency but for whatever reason it hasn't grabbed me this season. This Thursday though is the most-anticipated USL match if the season; the final Portland v. Seattle match of the season and --with Seattle leaving USL-- perhaps ever. Click to continue reading...

Dear Sir

0
Dear Sir

I couldn't help but disagree with a letter I read in the correspondence section of the August edition of your magazine FourFourTwo (page 11).

Oli Kristall of Leeds (where else?) seems to be suggesting that because England's top players are playing each other week in week out in the Premiership, the fierce rivalry then prevents them working effectively together when they are brought under the England banner. Click to continue reading...

No Mexican teams in SuperLiga final

10
Need translation? Click below.

Announcer introduces analyst Carlos Albert
Carlos Albert: Atlante has demonstrated, like all the teams in this tournament, that they're not in good form yet, they're in preseason. But that's a pretext, like the bad refs, because all the Mexican teams accepted those terms while chasing the carrot of a million dollars. Click to continue reading...
