The soccer world sheds a tear for fans, players, and civilians that lost their lives in Egypt a
few days ago. Many much better equipped media outlets and more knowledgeable folk reported on the
incident and shared their thoughts. Here's some of the essential reading:
Last Wednesday, in the Egyptian city of Port Said, fans of rival soccer clubs fought and 73
people were killed.
By Eric Beard
Today, along with his wife Lindsay, Bob Bradley joined the thousands of mourners in Cairo's
Sphinx Square to express his sympathy to the victims and families affected by the clash between
rival fans of Al-Ahly and Al-Masry in the Egyptian city of Port Said.
""Football can go to hell if this is the situation.""
-
Those were the words of Al-Ahly's star player Mohamed Aboutrika in the
wake of the tragedy in Port Said, calling for the Egyptian league to be suspended indefinitely.
"Crowds are dying in front of us, and there aren't any police or security forces,"
he said.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez should be protected from fan abuse as much as possible &
clubs should be fined, claims QPR boss Neil Warnock

The Belgrade derby has some, shall we say, "behavioral issues" which require constant
considerations. How best to combat a problem of lighting the stands on fire whilst also throwing
Molotov seat cocktails?
Remove the damn seats.
Good in theory, questionable in its successful application.
Glen Johnson scored a sensational late winner to earn Liverpool three vital Barclays Premier League
points at his old club Chelsea.
Former Blues full-back Johnson netted a brilliant solo effort to inflict his old club's third
defeat in four league matches and leave both teams 12 points behind Manchester City.
Following Chelsea's defeat to QPR, footage of John Terry allegedly calling Anton Ferdinand a
"black cunt" was circulated on the internet. Chelsea fans immediately insisted that the word being
used was "blind" and scolded rival fans for thinking they were lip-reading experts.
As much as anyone hates Terry, no one should wish for him to have said something racist because
that's fairly sick.

The warm-up to today's Galaxy-Chivas USA main event (live at 6 p.m. on ESPN) ended in a 1-0 win
last night for the Chivas USA supporters group due to a defensive error, I'm told.
Who knows whether that portends anything when it comes to today's almost sold out derby, which
in one respect doesn't mean a thing.
Wales and Liverpool star Craig Bellamy is at the centre of an investigation after he was called a
"sheep-sh***er" by fans.
Bellamy was allegedly the victim of "inhuman, degrading and vile" taunts by rival fans during
Liverpool's Carling Cup match at Brighton last month.
A complaint was lodged with the group ‘Let's Kick Racism Out'.
The press lazily claimed Antonio Valencia was our replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo when he
joined in the summer of 2009. Having scored just a handful of goals over a couple of seasons, the
media and rival fans scoffed at the idea of Sir Alex Ferguson believing this relative nobody from
Wigan was going to replace the Best Player In The World (TM) who had been our top scorer for the
past three years running.
Derby clashes are always fiercely contested affairs but when violence hits heir
a non contest. Argntina's volatile Avellaneda derby between Racing Club and Independiente was one
such contest after a fan was shot during fighting between rival fans which got out of hand. The
match ended 1-1, but with 1,200 Police officers needed and no doubt more Hospital staff, it would
make you wonder 'Is it all worth it'?
1. You don't forget days like this in a hurry. United could beat any side 8-2 and I'd be buzzing
but to beat Arsenal? Beautiful football playing Arsenal? Wow. I'd love a result like this over
Liverpool or City, obviously, but after our proper rivals, getting to absolutely thrash Arsenal is
as good as it gets.
Rival fans preview 2011-12
Fans around the country are gearing up for this weekend's Barclays Premier League kick-off. We
asked one from each top flight club to give us the lowdown on their team as well as predictions for
2011-12.

1. The Community Shield is preparation for the season, it's not a big deal. Had City won it, I'm
side they'd refer to themselves as Community Shield champions but let's not pretend it's a big deal
because we won. However, derby day is derby day and I'd enjoy watching our lads beat them at
tiddlywinks so it's nice to get a win against them at Wembley.

It is perhaps one of football's most popular myths that Manchester United get help from
referees, in the form of anything from the rub of the green to outright corruption. Not only will
it be referenced several times throughout the season by rival fans, it has actually entered the
mainstream media, with phrases like "that was an Old Trafford decision", "if that was down the
other end it was a pen" and "Fergie time" entering the common parlance of footballing punditry.

For real football fans the game they love is life or death. We all want to follow our team to
hell and back, but some places where the game is played literally could result in a life or death
situation. With football hooliganism, terrorism and bitter hatred in mind, the following teams and
games are to be avoided without travel cover and in the interest of your health.
Nicklas Bendtner had a somewhat frustrating year in the Red n' White of The Gunners' strip, but
also had some good moments in the 10-11 season. Things started gloomy for the Big Dane having been
carrying a groin injury from the previous season and playing on painkillers NB went to the World
Cup and the injury got worse from there he finally made his Arsenal injury comeback 3 months into
the season coming on a late sub against Birmingham City @ Emirates.
Chorley FC finished the season in third place in Division One North of the Evostik League,
and the inimitable Mark Critchley was there to watch if not exactly remember their
play-off semi-final against Curzon Ashton.
Ever pondered over whether a cake can epitomise a whole town?
A match in the stadium where Holland will face Brazil next month was held up for 20 minutes when a
beehive was discovered on one of the crossbars and ended in a free-for-all among players and rival
fans.
Police say a supporter has been shot dead following a Brazilian soccer game that was interrupted by
a swarm of bees and ended with a brawl between players on the field.
The perception of Manchester City by rival fans has transformed just as much as their playing squad
in recent years.
Their rich owner's rather crude approach to team building has irked many supporters, though
jealously certainly comes into it as well as perhaps the British way of being ruffled and offended
by brash displays of wealth.
The War Between Barca and Real Madrid will begin this Saturday
So, it's officially on - The El Clasico Grand series. In a La Liga season, the two classic
encounter between Real Madrid and Fc Barcelona is always the most anticipated and the most followed
event. In most of the season, it also tends to be the most decisive considering the domination of
the Spain's top two in top flight football.
Bolton's Stuart Holden has revealed today that he will be out for six months after an injury he
picked up following a challenge from Jonny Evans. Evans was sent off, despite replays showing both
players lifted one foot of the floor and Evans actually won the ball. It's only pure good fortune
which saw Evans get away without an injury and bad luck that has left Holden with such a lengthy
injury.
Few managers are able to get away with defeats in crucial games as well as making the same
high-profile mistakes time and time again, but Arsenal fans seem to forgive Arsene Wenger no matter
what he does or how he does it, a fact that often leads to rival fans scratching their heads at the
manner in which the club's loyal fans appear to tolerate such failure despite the stature of the
club and its place in English football.
There's a report out today that Djibril Cisse has said he wants to end his contract with Greek
football club, Panathinaikos, after being targeted by racist fans last weekend. Djibril Cisse - on
his way to Newcastle as a free agent? The player will put in an official complaint to UEFA after
rival fans chanted [.
SUNDERLAND, England Sunderland manager Steve Bruce said a young supporter is in police custody on
Sunday after running onto the pitch and appearing to push a player to the ground amid crowd trouble
at the end of a Premier League match against Newcastle. The pitch invader was led away by police
after confronting Newcastle [.
