Ronaldinho confirmed his good form by scoring a goal and helping set up another, but Flamengo was
held to a 2-2 draw by Internacional on Sunday thanks to the brilliance of Leandro Damiao. The
Internacional hitman is one of the rising stars of Brazilian soccer and was recently called up to
the national team along with Ronaldinho for the upcoming friendly against Ghana in London.
During an afternoon conference call with the media on Tuesday, Major League Soccer's Vice
President of Competition and Player Relations announced a significant change to the league's
Designated Player rule. The call was attended by various print, online and broadcast media
outlets and was hosted by Dan Courtemanche, the league's Senior Vice President of Marketing and
Communications.
Liverpool remains hopeful Luis Suárez will be able to play a part in the opening fixtures of the
season despite his exertions in helping Uruguay win the Copa America.
Uruguay's run to the final means that Suárez has less than three weeks of recovery time before the
start of the domestic season.
Despite Manchester United's rampant activity this summer, United still haven't addressed the
pressing need of finding a central midfielder to replace Paul Scholes. They are currently embroiled
in transfer sagas over immediate replacements like Wesley Sneijder, Luka Modric and Samir
Nasri.
Luis García has signed a three-year contract to coach Getafe, replacing Míchel who was fired
after last season's 16th place finish in La Liga.
Garcia is one of the rising stars in Spanish coaching circles after winning promotion to the top
division with Levante in 2009/10, and then securing his side's survival in the last game of the
following campaign.
With so many young Aussies and older Aussies heading to Asia in the recent A-League break you have
to start to wonder who will fill the spots next season.
