Fabio Capello resigns as England manager but who will replace him? - The 90th Minute Soccer
Blog
England currently has no manager as Fabio Capello recently resigned. It was pretty clear Capello
would be out after the upcoming Euro 2012 and his resignation was a surprise. The problem between
Capello and the English Football Association was over John Terry.

I wrote yesterday that Fabio Capello And FA were set for a fireworks meeting today with neither
site apparently ready to concede ground over John Terry.
Well after meeting today, it became apparent that the two sides could no longer work together
and the FA has announced that Fabio Capello has stepped down as England manager.
The 2012 European Championship commences exactly four months from today, and England is looking
for a new manager.
In a monumental development, Fabio Capello resigned from the helm of the English national team
on Wednedsay. Capello had been public in his defense of John Terry after the FA stripped the
Chelsea centerback of his international captaincy amid his involvement in a racial abuse
scandal.
Liverpool were presented with a golden chance of going within 2 points of 4th place after
Chelsea were held to another draw on the weekend against Manchester United.
But it was not to be as Liverpool were held to their eighth league draw at Anfield by a
determined Spurs outfit.
Andy Carroll went close to opening the scoring early on after Steven Gerrard sent through an
inch perfect pass to Carroll who was stopped by an inch perfect tackle by Michael Dawson.
There was a time under the soon to be booted nicest man in football when Sydney won 1-0 - boring
but they won.
Then in season 2, they lost 1-0. More boring and more frustrating.
Now in Season 3 they lose, by 3, 4 or 5 and that's at home.
Mr Lavicka might be nice - but he's a pretty ordinary coach.

What does it take for any other player other than RVP to score goals? It is now official, he's
not pretending any more - Theo Walcott has a mind made of mush in front of goal. Always. Aaron
Ramsey is another. The Ox too for all his brightness was presented with a clear chance.
Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has sent a strong message to the club's doubters,
asserting that for all the criticism over their massive spending spree and unproven title
credentials, the Citizens have delivered on the promises made to him.
Speaking ahead of the decisive leg of City's Carling Cup semifinal against Liverpool tonight,
Barry revealed that he strongly considered moving to Anfield in 2009 before choosing the Eastlands
based largely on a commitment to build for the future.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has rubbished suggestions that substituting Andrei Arshavin for Alex
Oxlade-Chamberlain led to the club's 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United and insists that he
owes the doubters no explanation.
With the Gunners tied 1-1 after Chamberlain had assisted Robin van Persie second-half equalizer
to Luis Antonio Valencia's first-half opener, Wenger brought Arshavin on to a negative reaction
throughout the Emirates Stadium.
Arsene Wenger has issued a wake-up call literally to his players, urging them to stay focused
throughout the 90 minutes of Sunday's home clash with Manchester United.
While the Gunners emerged 1-0 winners through an Aaron Ramsey goal when the Red Devils last
visited the Emirates nearly eight months ago, they were thrashed 8-2 by the reigning Premier League
champions at Old Trafford in August.
Suffering from two straight premier league defeats, Arsenal are eying to stop that negative
trend when they're facing Manchester United this weekend as picking up another defeat would be bad
for their morale.
This target is being set up by the Gunners' coach, Arsene Wenger, who insisted that his players
must give their best this weekend and grab all three points against the Red Devils especially after
the disappointment in their previous meeting this season.

Of all the things that disconcert me about the Emirates experience one of the most boring and
unnecessary is the crowd shouting shoot when a player is anywhere inside the opposition half.
I mainly sit in the lower tier when I can get a ticket and behind one of the goals. At the
Wolves game a number of build up passes would be greeted with growing cries of shoot, no problem
you would think, but the perspective from the lower tier is such that when the ball is up the other
end there is no way you can judge how far the ball carrier is out from goal or otherwise.
Ipswich boss Paul Jewell is hopeful of signing Leicester City defender Sean St Ledger after
agreeing a fee as well as personal terms with the player.
But Jewell says the 27-year-old Irish international, who has made eight league starts this term,
has a number of offers to consider.
Newcastle United are set lose Demba Ba to the Africa Cup of Nations soon, yet it seems the club is
concentrating more on strengthening the team in defence rather than attack. Is this the right

Sir Alex Ferguson has implied his indifference at the way in which players and staff at Liverpool
has conducted themselves in the aftermath of Luis Suarez being handed an eight-match ban following
alleged racist comments towards Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra.
Suarez was handed the punishment at the start of last week after a rather tedious few months of
allegations and accusations.

Sir Alex Ferguson, the esteemed manager of Manchester United, has broken his silence on the
racism saga engulfing Liverpool Football Club and his own club. The two players involved, Luis
Suarez of Uruguay and Liverpool and Patrice Evra of France and Manchester United, had up until now
also kept a reserved silence, deciding to leave the entire affair in the hands of the British
football regulatory authorities, the FA.

Whilst Liverpool decided to wear t-shirts for Luis Suarez, who has been found guilty of racially
abusing Patrice Evra this week, Manchester United have kept quiet. Today, Sir Alex Ferguson has
given his reaction to the ban but is eager to put it all behind us, claiming it was never about
United against Liverpool.

reaction to Suárez Sir Alex Ferguson has broken his silence on the Luis Suárez affair, describing
the Liverpool striker's eight-match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra as "the right decision"

PAOK? Powak? Pork? Pay-ock? I don't care how you pronounce it, I bloody love the little buggers.
Last night, like Shirley Valentine before me, eleven men from Salonika stole my heart. They've even
replaced AEK Argos as my favourite Greek club and let me tell you, that takes some doing.
Lucas Leiva has been superb for Liverpool this season, but after his injury against Chelsea
yesterday, it unfortunately looks like he may be out for quite a while. Liverpool will undoubtedly
miss the Brazilian, but his absence presents a major opportunity for Jordan Henderson and/or Jay
Spearing to stake their claim in the centre of midfield.

It what is definitely (IMO) the right decision, Kenny Dalglish has dropped Stewart Downing and Andy

Former Liverpool defender Jason McAteer has expressed his disappointment over Liverpool's home draw
with Swansea City.
McAteer, who was commenting on the game for LFC TV, was clearly frustrated with Liverpool's
inability to convert the chances created during the game:
"It's becoming quite predictable - Liverpool creating chances and not being clinical in front of
goal and coming away with a 0-0 draw.
Glen Johnson claims Kenny Dalglish brings the best out in him – by allowing him to play his
natural game.
The full-back admits he was sometimes asked to curtail his attacking instincts under previous boss
Roy Hodgson.
Johnson said: "Kenny knows I am an attacking full-back and he wants me to attack whereas maybe Roy
didn't want me to attack as much.
Kenny Dalglish admits he does not yet know Jordan Henderson's best position but insists the
Liverpool midfielder is at the right club.
Henderson, 21, made a £20million switch from Sunderland to Liverpool in the summer as Dalglish set
about creating an English heartbeat to his team.
The size of the fee and the lack of a regular position in the team have seen the England Under 21
international struggle at times to display his best form.
Andy Carroll scored his first goal in 11 hours of football against Everton two weeks ago but he's
back on the bench for the Man United game today. Is this the right decision?I have to admit that I
think it's the wrong decision; I can never see the logic in dropping an attacking player who scored
in the previous game; it just doesn't make any sense to me.

I try and be realistic about the current team, manager, coaching staff, scouting system and Board
but whichever angle I look at I think the club as a whole are taking a huge gamble that the FFP
rule will be beneficial more to Arsenal than nearly every other club in the PL and that the club
firmly believes financial stability is the key to long term success regardless of current results,
but at what cost?
Matthew Lewis/Getty Images(Bleacher Report) Joe Cole arrived on Merseyside just over a year ago
with high hopes, a big contract and tons of belief that he was going to help lead the Reds return
to the promised land that they have been so long removed from.
However, that did not happen as Cole continued to fall off the wagon and was left to fill mostly a
fringe role last season as the Reds chased fifth place but could not claim it at the death last
year.
