Manchester United and Liverpool target Ricky van Wolfswinkel is a wanted man – with Lazio ready
to make a £13million bid for the Sporting Lisbon star this month.
United and Liverpool are keen on the striker but were expected to wait until the summer to make
bids.
But they could yet be forced into action this month as Lazio are ready to enter the race to sign
the highly-rated Dutchman.
Suddenly, there was this transfer at the end of Summer: Ricky van Wolfswinkel to Sporting. Not
Ajax. Not Feyenoord. But Portugal. Of all places.
People ( also on this blog) said: that is not a smart move.... But six months later, Ricky
scored prolifically, has been named player of the month [read more]

To those of you who missed it there was a really good program on BBC 1 last night based on
depression in sport. The show was presented by and based mainly upon Freddie Flintoff and his own
battle against depression whilst very much in the spotlight playing cricket for England.
Flintoff said how there was a lot of pressure on him to be the leader of the cricket team and to
motivate others and lead them to victory but there were times when he felt so low that he wasn't
able to do this, yet felt unable to admit to his issues in front of his team-mates.
There's a report that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on three of their Dutch targets on the

Dutch supermarket chain C1000 tasked the Dutch striking trio of Dirk Kuyt, Klaas Jan Huntelaar
and Ricky van Wolfswinkel with becoming superheros blessed with prescient capabilities. Those
capabilities are then used to save footballs from destruction.
A task you'd think better suited for the likes of Mathijsen, Heitenga, van der Wiel and

When the chips are down and the Miami Heat need a bucket, who do they go to? That would be NBA
champion and Finals MVP Dwyane Wade. For the second time this season, Wade delivered the
game-winner for the Miami Heat.
This time, Wade's shot downed the Minnesota Timberwolves by a final score of 103-101.
There's a buzz about the NBA's Timberwolves that Minnesotan's have not seen for years. The reason?

Inter Milan took a toothless Fiorentina side apart on Saturday night to claim three valuable points
that see them move up to 11th in Serie A. Missing the likes of Javier Zanetti, Dejan Stankovic,

pack. Maicon, Yuto Nagatomo and Lucio came into the backline while Philippe Coutinho replaced
Ricky.

Oguchi Onyewu got the start for Sporting, beating FC Zurich 2-0 at home to win Group D. Ricky van
Wolfswinkel opened the scoring in the 15th minute, with Valeri Bojinov doubling the lead in the
58th. Boeck Marcelo needed one save for the shutout. Jermaine Jones went the distance for Schalke
04, beating Steaua Bucharest 2-1 to qualify for the next round.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel might have the best name of this season's transfer rumors, but if it was
up to 22-year-old Dutchman, he wouldn't be in talks.
The Sporting Lisbon striker said it's nice to have interest from clubs like Manchester United
and Chelsea, but he has no interest in moving right now.

some who had played a lot more games for England than others, but the main thing they had in common
was that they all looked quite old.

Monaco aren't exactly basking in rude health at the moment, languishing down at the arse-end of
the French second tier following their relegation from Ligue 1 last season though Marama Vahirua's
sublime volleyed goal against Le Mans (to equalise with just five minutes left to play) on Saturday
certainly provided a brief distraction from the club's ongoing woes.

Liverpool and Manchester United will be on alert after recent comments made by the agent of Ricky
van Wolfswinkel with regards to the buy-out clause in his contract.
Various reports have linked the Sporting Lisbon striker with a move to the Premier League despite
only arriving in Portugal this summer.
Its never a surprise when Manchester United are linked with young talented players. The latest in
this list is Dutch player, Ricky van Wolfswinkel who currently plays for Sporting Lisbon. Sir
Alex's assistant Mike Phelan too admitted the club is keen on 22-year-old Dutchman. He moved to
Portugal this summer from Utecht and has netted six goals in last six games, which is impressive.
As reports surfaced this week linking Manchester United with a move for Sporting Lisbon star Ricky
van Wolfswinkel, it seems Liverpool have reignited their interest in the striker.
Various sources have claimed United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has sent scouts over to Portugal to
watch the 22-year-old in action with the view of making a bid next summer.

Jozy Altidore put AZ up on the road at Metalist Stadium, scoring in the 26th minute in Europa
League Group G play. Metalist got a 77th minute equalizer to split the points. Altidore was yellow
carded in the 28th minute, subbing out in the 82nd. Oguchi Onyewu started for Sporting in a 2-1 win
Group D win over Lazio at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
At the beginning of July, when the transfer window officially opened, there was plenty of
speculation about a certain Ricky Alvarez joining Arsenal, but Inter Milan supposedly high-jacked
the deal and that is where he ended up. All has not gone well for Alvarez in Italy since his
arrival, or for Inter Milan for that [.
Oguchi Onyewu was the difference for Sporting on Monday, starting and scoring in the 74th minute to
send all three points Sporting's way. Sporting opened the scoring with two quick goals in the 2nd
(Stijn Schaars) and 3rd minutes (Ricky van Wolfswinkel), taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. Rio Ave
cut that in half in the 49th and equalized in the 63rd minute.

The penultimate weekend in the NASL offered little in the way of high-scoring contests but
instead set up a thrilling final weekend for the Montreal Impact and the NSC Minnesota Stars.
The NSC Minnesota Stars conceded a second-half goal to draw 1-1 with FC Tampa Bay but the vital
point keeps them narrowly ahead of the Montreal Impact for sixth place.

completely fooled but he does make me laugh so. Chuckle chuckle y'all.
Wolves v Spurs has thrown up its fair share of classic encounters over the years and for
Tottenham, Molineux has generally been a difficult place to travel to. There's often plenty of
goals too as last year's 3-3 draw underlines.
When you think of memorable games from the past, two will always come to mind – (for Spurs
fans anyway).

As emphatic as it was, there was something eminently unwatchable about Real Madrid's
opening day 6-0 win over Real Zaragoza. It was unsettling. Too brutal. Too one-sided. Like
watching Manny Pacquiao batter Ricky Hatton if the fight had been made to go all twelve rounds no
matter how badly Pacquiao bloodied his opponent.
In the mid 1980s, Ian Rush became tantalisingly close to forming a mouth-watering strike
partnership with the legendary Diego Maradona at Napoli. Sounds like fiction, but it's actually
100% fact.
After scoring 108 goals in 174 games for Liverpool, winning three league championships in a row and
lifting the European Cup in Rome, Rush was tempted to leave Anfield for Napoli in 1984.
Ricky's excited about Norwich City returning to Stamford Bridge. Frankly, so are we.
