The transfer has finally opened and we all wait with baited breath for the arrival of new
players to invigorate our squad and bring home trophies. Could Wenger break with tradition and
focus his transfer targets on the domestic market?
Wenger has rarely bought English players and those he has have not for one reason or another
been successful.
After the article we had on nawty football injuries a few weeks back, we thought why not try and
think of some of the more half-wit ones caused more by stupidity than a harsh Norman Hunt leg
warmer. Keep it Foolish!!
Dave Beasant Creamed It
First up, Dave "Lurch" Beasant, hero of The Dons FA Cup triumph in 88 against the best side in
the world at the time, Liverpool.
The 2000-01 Premier League season was a bizarre one, ranging from the mundane to the improbable:
On one hand, Manchester United won the title by 10 points, on the other hand, it was delivered with
a poor Middlesbrough side winning 3-0 at Highbury. Whilst Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool were
the top three, Peter Reid's Sunderland were second in late January.
Old Foes
My attention on Saturday evening was drawn to the Coca-Cola Championship, or Division 2 as it
was called up until BSkyB came along, and the clash between recently relegated West Bromwich Albion
and Ipswich Town. Roberto Di Matteo and Roy Keane faced each other as players on numerous occasions
during their careers, with one particular incident in the Charity Shield in 2000 leading to one of
the 11 red cards Keane received during his Manchester United career.
Turns out that if you do this...
...and then let Kenwyne Jones beat you in the air like this...
... while Fabio Capello watches from the stands ... then you get dropped from the England squad.
Fabio Capello has named his England squad to face Ukraine and Belarus, and Ben Foster is not in
it.
