Today we move another day closer to the 2009 expansion draft. Now we turn our focus to the
Houston Dynamo.
The Dynamo are a tough team to figure out due to the number of quality players that are both
young and old.

Cameron Ryan Cochrane Brian Ching Tyler Deric Ricardo Clark Tally Hall Brad Davis John Michael
Hayden Andrew Hainault Richard Mulrooney Stuart Holden Dominic Oduro Luis Angel Landin Pat Onstad

Either way they stand to lose a good player this year.

The games are getting tight in MLS. Chivas USA was the only team to score two goals last week.
MLS also has hit a lull in the schedule thanks to World Cup qualifying. Just one game Wednesday,
three on Saturday and one the next Wednesday. Several teams will be watching at 4 p.m. ET Saturday
hoping to see Toronto lose at home to San Jose, which would all but clinch playoff spots for the
three teams on 41 points.

Remember how just last night (or this morning) you read on Chron.com (or the good ol' printed
Chron) that Richard Mulrooney was out until September and Brian Mullan at least two weeks with an
ankle sprain? Well, it seems the...

The past few weeks have been rough for the Dynamo. No, not because they have been on the road
for over a month, but because this international duty crap is making it difficult to field a
consistent lineup. And of course it's the top players that are out. Brian Ching and Stuart Holden
are off making America look good and Andrew Hainault is.

With SuperLiga set to kick off and four MLS teams participating, it is a slightly-reduced MLS
schedule we find ourselves with this week as we reach the mid-point of the 2009 season.
Chicago, New England, Kansas City and Chivas USA are all taking part in the battle vs. Mexican
club, leaving ten teams to do battle in MLS this weekend.

It's all change at the top of Major League Soccer after a big week for United and the Dynamo.
Cam Weaver, traded from the Earthquakes, picked up his first
Houston
Dynamo assist to create a simple finish for Stuart Holden last Wednesday as the Dynamo
defeated
Chivas USA.

It's official: this past week has been the worst in our club's short history. In fact, any progress
we appeared to have made this off-season might as well have not happened. This Toronto FC team is
proving that it does not have what it takes to become a contender in this parity-stricken league.
2009 was supposed to be "the year.

Chicago suffers second straight shutout loss at home
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - One defensive lapse and one shot on goal that got past goalkeeper Jon Busch.
That is all that separated the Houston Dynamo from the Chicago Fire on Friday night in Major League
Soccer action at Toyota Park.
Houston continued its hot streak, thanks to a Stuart Holden goal in the 4th minute, and the Dynamo
held on the rest of the way for a 1-0 victory, handing Chicago its second straight shutout loss at
home.

Maurice Edu got the news he did not want - he needs knee surgery and could be out 2 months or more.
That means we probably won't see him again until Rangers preseason. Damn.
TEAM AMERICAUS Soccer has a Q & A with Clint Dempsey as he gets his 50th cap tonight.

Tomorrow night we take on the Houston Dynamo at Robertson Stadium in a match that will mark Dwayne
De Rosario's first ever match in Houston as a member of the Dynamo's opposition. In a way it is a
homecoming for him. The same can be said for Adrian Serioux, who won an MLS Cup in 2006 with the
Dynamo before finding his away across Texas in Dallas.

Well, well, well. It looks as if Julius James or Waibelinho his own self may get to see some action
sooner than planned.
Bernardo filed this story today (link here):
Dynamo defender Richard Mulrooney will miss Saturday's match at the New York Red Bulls after
suffering a broken left cheekbone after a collision during Tuesday practice. Click to continue reading...
The Dynamo will be without starting right back Richard Mulrooney when they face the New York Red
Bulls Saturday night at Giants Stadium.
Mulrooney, one of four Dynamo players to play every minute of all nine competitive games so far
this year, fractured his left cheekbone in a practice collision on Tuesday.

The game that seemed like it would never be played finally was played last Wednesday and the
result left you wondering whether D.C. United got tired of waiting.
Houston man-handled D.C., 2-0, at RFK Stadium in a game that had been postponed twice and
was delayed for hours on the night it was finally completed.

Finally, a little bit of time to write, and oh, what a series of topics there are. Here's a quick
rundown:
FORZA: Dynamo vs. little d tonight in the Thursday ESPN game. (Here's Jeff Carlisle's
always-excellent advance here and the Chron's here.) I know, I know. Journalistic objectivity
should compel me to write the team's name properly and all that.

I think that sums it up nicely. The general mood of optimism going into the CONCACAF Champions Cup
semifinals renders the funk looming over the second leg all the more blue. I'll be surprised - and,
for the record, damned happy - if either DC United or the Houston Dynamo make the final. It'd [...]

Ugh. My head feels it's stuffed with cotton this morning, so I can't promise quality, never mind
brilliance. This is kind of a tragedy because, today, I'll examine the pivotal match-up in this
Sunday's MLS Cup: the Houston Dynamo's four-man midfield versus the New England Revolution's five.
UPDATE: Because my brain is barely working, [...]
