As was previously stated here (okay, I was off by a little bit), it looks like Ben Olsen is
going to hang up his boots. Although it could have been easily guessed that his time was running
out, Olsen has decided that either pain or other considerations have made it undesirable to
continue his career.

The next-to-last weekend of MLS action sees the teams broken down into three groups:
1. In the playoffs, still alive for Supporters Shield
2. Not yet in the playoffs
3. Out of the playoffs
Every contending team has two games left except Chivas USA, which has three.
We'll update this glance as the day goes on, pressbox wi-fi permitting (wi-fi or not, check Twitter
updates).

The United States paid handsomely for the last gasp tie secured Wednesday night at RFK, as central
defender Oguchi Onyewu damaged ligaments in his knee and will be out of action three to four
months.

In a show of support for Chuck D. and in solidarity with The Baltimore Brigade, and a number of
other bloggers & tweeters out there in the American soccersphere, I'm encouraging anyone attending
tonight's match vs. Costa Rica at RFK to print one of these out and hold it aloft in the 9th

Host Tony Limarzi recaps the weekend of MLS action - things actually went our way! - and
previews the big Crew game on Saturday. The final segment offers a sneak peak at the 1999 reunion
DVD that will be handed out post-game at RFK on Saturday (great stuff from some of '99 team
watching the MLS Cup final versus LA).

D.C. United lost their third consecutive home match and are watching their 2009 MLS campaign circle
the drain. Chivas USA came into RFK and bossed around United and earned a 2-0 win to improve their
playoff standing while crippling United's at the same time.

There is a caveat to this post: we don't have it near as bad as Red Bull fans have it. True,
they have a new stadium coming, but that team is a disaster from top to bottom, with little hope of
immediate recovery. Now that I've cleared that up, this is a bad time to be a United fan.
The breadth of this experience was on display Sunday afternoon.

D.C. United coughed up yet another lead and allowed the previously winless on the road San Jose
Earthquakes to come into RFK and take away a potential playoff killing win over the Black and Red.
United has now lost two consecutive home matches after going the first 11 matches of the season
without allowing a loss.

It's crunch time and DC United has been thrown a lifeline in the CONCACAF Champions League, but the
Black and Red need a big win in RFK over a suddenly misfiring Marathon to get themselves back on
track.

For some years now, DC United's Screaming Eagles and Barra Brava have set the standard for
pre-game tailgating in MLS.As a DC fan this season, I've learned to appreciate the "smaller things" in soccer my soccer
experience as opposed to actual goals, talent, or even effort out of my home town team.

United's We Win Trophies Campaign hit a bit of a snag last week when Seattle came in to RFK and
snatched a trophy right out from under DC's noses, but the Black and Red get a chance at some
revenge in this crucial matchup of two teams desperate for points in the stretch run for the MLS
Cup playoffs.

After all I've done for you?
Of course after last night's Night of the Living Fat Man in RFK (featuing the amazing
disappearing career of Josh Wicks) people are strewing palm fronds in the path of his badly
overloaded donkey and proclaiming Sigi the King of the Coaches, a title which Bruce Arena, among
others, may have something to say about before it's all said any done.

Kasey Keller is right on schedule:
The frustration continues! Once again we can't seem to find the back of the net. With
two big chances at the end to win the game and blow the roof off the stadium, we just couldn't make
it happen. Things could have been worse, we could have been down by three in the first
half.

ESPN's Steve Davis seems to say here that he thinks linking tickets to the World Cup finals with
attendance at World Cup qualifiers would be a good way to help increase ticket demand for the
qualifiers. That's an interesting idea, one whose complexity of execution boggles my mind at the
moment.
I have a simpler plan.

Despite the August 12th loss to Mexico, many US soccer fans still believe that their team has the
edge against their Mexican counterparts on the international level. On the club level, however,
there is no denying that Mexican teams dominate those from MLS. Last night was no different, as
both DC United and the Columbus Crew were handed decisive losses at the hands of teams from south
of the border.

CSN is letting me down. My wife and I are on a reduced entertainment budget, so we can't
necessarily afford the trip to RFK and the inevitable beers cotton candy. And we have Comcast basic
cable... I guess we are grandfathered in on that; is that even offered to new subscribers
anymore?
Subsequently I don't get Fox Soccer Channel.

In the sprinkling rain at RFK, DC United attacked the Galaxy goal, strung together passes in the
midfield, and played strong enough in the back to not concede. Unfortunately, United's finishing
and final third passing let them down, and the 22k in attendance had to settle for a goalless
draw.
This team has been nothing this season if not frustrating.
