As Portsmouth slid into administration, the grim reality of their predicament could be seen from
a cursory glance at the bottom of the Premier League table. The club is, of course, bottom of the
table, but they have been there much of the season. The unpleasant added bonus is that they are now
cast adrift at the foot of the table on ten points, after the nine point deduction pro-rata'd down
from the usual ten points to take into account that Premier League clubs only play thirty-eight
league matches over the course of a season for entering into administration kicked in.

The press reaction was a peculiar mix of astonishment and resignation when it first became apparent
back in November that a prominent Argentine non-governmental organisation was seeking to help
secure funds to allow the country's
barra brava (broadly speaking, 'hooligan') groups to
travel to the World Cup.

A million miles removed from the opulent lives of the millionaire players and the neatly
coiffured executives, the reality of Portsmouth's financial desperation came home to roost. It
didn't, however, come home to roost for those that can afford it or those that are to blame for
this whole sorry mess in which they find themselves.

With the conviction and resolve that England manager Fabio Capello put the captain controversy to
rest, it is clear that the Italian is in charge.
Steven Howard of the Sun wrote earlier this week that
Fabio must lance the wound – before it
poisons the body. In his column today, Howard writes about Capello's decisive work in
dissolving the problem and keeping the focus on England's chase for the World Cup this summer.

Liverpool FC, the Premier League soccer club, has confirmed that it will sell the naming rights to
its new stadium, work on which is expected to begin by April.
The stadium, which will be built in Stanley Park, close to the club's current home ground Anfield,
is seen as a key source of revenue by the club's American owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, and
the club's commercial director Ian Ayre says Liverpool would be "crazy" not to sell naming rights
to the new ground.

Anger, frustration, disbelief.
These are just some of the words that sprung to mind during a desperate second half for
Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
After an insipid first half display Arsene Wenger's tirade at his players during the break
brought the expected response from the Gunners, but the lack of fight from the Merseysiders after
they fell behind was the most worrying thing for Liverpool supporters.

OK so maybe I'm blowing this a little out of proportion, but can you blame me? Something's
finally gone right for the bid! Sepp, the eternally foolish president of FIFA, has gotten his creep

of our bid and make them into a charming collage, has gotten Sepp's backing.

Certainly, the official confirmation, released by the club this morning, that van Persie is to

I can't say what effect, if any, it will have on the mindsets of the Arsenal players themselves

Since Liverpool last won the league, United have won an incredible eleven titles, as well as two
