Missouri State coach Jon Leamy said he has finally figured out what Heath Melugin does best: score goals. Now, Leamy's hoping the freshman forward can continue to boost the Bears like he has done in recent games.

Missouri State Bears Beat Central Arkansas on Melugin’s Brace

Central Arkansas Bears - 1
Heath Melugin (Kickapoo 2008) scored in the 4th and 87th minute Tuesday night to help the Bear's to the win at home. The first came from Johannes Demarzi's throw-in and the second from Jordan Barne's cross and both were necessary for the win as the UCA Bear's scored 37 seconds after the second goal.

Robbie Curtis (Ozark 2008) has played in 9 of the 10 games at Lincoln Memorial University (D2, South Atlantic Conference). He's scored one goal, the game winner against Sheperd University, which is described below:

In the 87th minute, freshman Robbie Curtis (Ozark, MO) who had recently checked into the game for the first time used a pass from teammate James McLeish (Amprior, Ontario, Canada) and Willian Moura to find the back left corner which gave the Railsplitters a 2-1 lead.

On Friday at the Bradley Braves Tournament, the Bears opened the scoring just three and a half minutes into the first half when Heath Melugin (Kickapoo 2008) capitalized on a Howard defensive breakdown allowing him to punch home his first goal of the season from 10 yards out.

Chealsey Russell (Kickapoo 2008) made her first start Sunday for the Rice Owls. She played 42 minutes Friday. She also started and played 90 minutes Sunday as the Owls defeated Marshall. There's a nice description of the first goal below:

It was Russell who helped open the scoring early in the contest with the Owls' Show-Me-State 1-2 punch.

A tough Laramie County Community College (7-2-1) took the trip from Wyoming to Great Bend, Kansas Saturday night for a non-conference soccer game. Barton County prevailed winning 3-1, and improving their season record to 10-0 on the year. The Springfield Demize players all had a big hand in the win contributing on every goal scored in the match.

The Barton County men had a dominant week starting conference play with three of the weaker teams in their region. On Wednesday September 10, the Cougars rolled to an 11-0 win over Dodge City CC. It was a dominant performance from start to finish as Barton scored eight goals in the second half. Springfield Demize midfielder Oscar Narvaez managed one goal and one assist on the contest.

Sunday Ozarks Regional College Report

Southwest Baptist Bearcats won both of their MIAA matches this weekend. On Thursday they traveled to Emporia State where they won 3-1.

On Saturday, they went to Joplin where they dismantled the MSSU Lions, 6- 1. SBU's Rhiane Mitchell, who entered the week at the very top of the NCAA's points and goals leader board, scored three goals and recorded one assist.

The U14 West Division White, which includes the Springfield SC 94/95 squad, is holding a series of games here this weekend.

Midwest Regional League U14 Boys Competition In Springfield

UPDATE - Congratulations to the Springfield SC 94/95 squad who enjoyed home cooking and a pair of wins this weekend while hosting the MRL U14 games. The boys won both games by a 2-1 margin, against St Louis Scott Gallagher I 94/95 on Saturday and St Louis Scott Gallagher IL-Blue (formerly Metro United) on Sunday.

NJCAA Report - Barton County Cougars Ranked #4, Crowder Wins 1st Games

The Barton County CC Cougars played a pair of non-conference games in Garden City, Kansas this weekend. On Saturday, Barton knocked off a solid Lincoln College (Illinois) team 3-0. Among the scorers, Springfield Demize midfielder Oscar Narvaez notched a goal on a brilliant free-kick from about 23 yards out.

Golden Eagles sophomore forward Adrian Jasso tallied the first goal for JBU in the 11th minute off the assist from Jamal Bandeh. Ten minutes later, sophomore Juan Iraola continued the trend after scoring unassisted for the 2-0 lead.

This is a very good result for the Bears, getting the win on a 50th minute goal from their midfield general, sophomore Samantha Aguilar. Sophomore midfielder Christine Cross earned the assist as she led Aguilar with a pass that resulted in a goal in the bottom left corner of the net.

Chris Shuler Named to Soccer America Preseason All-American 2nd Team

Chris Schuler of the Creighton men's soccer team has been named a second-team preseason All-American by Soccer America, as announced by the publication Tuesday. The junior defender has started 39 of his first 40 matches at Creighton and helped anchor the backline since his arrival.

Schuler, a first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference pick and second-team NSCAA All-Midwest Region selection last year, started all 20 matches a year ago.

Missouri State Bears Offense Heats Up, Shuts Out Trojans

With a pair of goals in a seven minute period this afternoon, the Bears got the game-winner courtesy of a pair of freshman and sealed the win from a pair expected to lead the Bears this season.

The game-winner was scored by Kelsey Finders (pictured) in the 42nd minute when freshman Jennifer Hamlin sent a through ball from the left side.

With a single goal, scored from a scramble in the box after a floater was deflected off the crossbar by Jessie Sanderson, the Bearcats earned a numerical advantage on their regional rival in this afternoons exhibition game. Coach Benjamin Wade was quoted in a release in advance of the game

"We have six line changes, so hockey fans will feel right at home with the players switching in and out so much.

That's Lance on the left along with veteran midfielder Jesse Marsch and Jamaican defender Shavar Thomas on the set of KTLA in LA, as part of the "Shirt Off Their Back" promotion Chivas ran earlier this season. Way to represent Lance!

Drury Panthers Surprise Missouri State Bears

"They wanted it more than we did in the first half" was the assessment of Coach Rob Brewer of the MSU Bears following his squads 2-1 loss to their North side neighbors, the Drury Panthers Saturday evening. All three goals were scored in the decisive first half, with Drury scoring in the 31st and 42nd minutes while MSU narrowed the margin with a quick strike in the 43rd minute.
