Last Friday saw the final of the Saudi Crown Prince Cup Saudi Arabia's equivalent of the the FA Cup being played between bitter rivals Al Hilal and Al Nasr. The match went to penalties, at which point Al Nasr goalkeeper Abdallah Al Enizi decided to unleash just about any form of gamesmanship that [..
With Manuel Neuer playing more and more like renegade sweeper 'keeper Rene Higuita with every
passing game at Euro 2012, it looks like Germany are preparing for the worst with Thomas Müller
playing in goal at training yesterday, pitting his shot-stopping prowess against some of Die
Mannschaft's most fearsome attacking entities Mats Hummels, Sami Khedira and Neuer himself.
The legendary Columbian goalkeeper, Rene Higuita, perfected the 'Scorpion Kick.'
As the ball approached the goal in the air, Higuita would get his body ready and perfectly time his
action to flex his torso and bring his legs back together in the air to boot the ball out away from
the goal.
Colombian keeper Rene Higuita made the scorpion kick famous in 1995 against England.
And now it seems another Columbian 32 year old Mauricio Molina has perfected Higuita's now world
famous scorpion kick, scored eight minutes into Seoul FC's 6-0 win against Busan in the Korean
top-flight on Sunday.
As with Rene Higuita and his famous scorpion kick, Mario Balotelli's hulked-up
power flex at Euro 2012 has been immortalised in the medium of Subbuteo...
It's a little niche, but we sincerely hope the next in the series is Nigel Quashie falling flat
on his face while attempting a step-over for Portsmouth while trying to show the jeering Forest
fans what they were missing in 2001.
Well they say if you don't ask, you don't get. At the weekend we marvelled at the creation of a
Rene Higuita scorpion-kicking Subbuteo figure, and allowed ourselves to dream of other fantasy
football figurines. Top of the list was a pec-pulsating Mario Balotelli a homage to his memorable

Hirsute Colombian jester Rene Higuita has been up to his old trick again, re-enacting his
infamous 'scorpion kick' save against England all those years ago for an Arabic television
channel...
We'll forgive him as he's 45-years old these days, but that wasn't a patch on the original
busted out to foil Jamie Redknapp on his top, top triffic international debut back in 1995.
It's been 17 years since Rene Higuita executed his audacious scorpion kick to block a weak shot
from Jamie Redknapp in a friendly between England and Colombia at Wembley. Since then, it's become
one of the most iconic in the sport's history and has been attempted by goalkeepers and attackers
alike, some more successful than others.
Take note children: Unless you happen to go by the name of Rene Higuita, 'scorpion' passes are
the kind of frivolous, show-boaty nonsense that you've simply got to get 100% right lest you run
the distinct risk of ending up looking like a complete and utter gimmer.
Rene Higuita recreated his famous Scorpion Kick in his final match as a pro, in
his hometown of Medellin, Colombia hey, that kick made his name, and will no doubt feature in the
title of his autobigraphy. Rene also scored from a free-kick (he does this all the time) or, more
accurately, was allowed to score from a free-kick as he retired at the grand age of 43.
There are many truly iconic moments in International football the Marco Van Basten volley, Andrea
Pirlo's recent Euro 2012 panenka penalty, and Paul Konchesky earning an England cap come
immediately to mind. However, few have put a bigger smile of football fan's faces than theÂ
unforgettable acrobatics of Colombian goalkeeper Renee Higuita.
Editor's Note: Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mr Clint Dempsey. Your scorpion kick
attempt on Wednesday night brought us back to a piece we did nearly two years ago. Much less than
seven degrees of separation brought us to the infamous "scorpion kicker" Rene Higuita.
Footballers that have had cosmetic surgeries - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Fame, wealth, respect and status the modern day footballer has it all. However some things are
pre-set, like a person's appearance. Liposuction, plastic surgery and beauty enhancing treatments
are all the rage in Hollywood, and it appears that the footballing world is following suit, with a
number of players spending their mega-wages on making themselves more attractive.

It seems like only yesterday when Italia 1990 took place, probably the first World Cup that
could honestly begin to claim it was a global spectacle. As if by magic, the Cameroon side that
qualified for the 14th World Cup were able to explode all over the world and show people that
African international football had arrived.
Emile Heskey perhaps epitomises the recent state of the England squad. Slow, tired, unable to
find goals and the butt of the majority of jokes sent from phone to phone, laptop to laptop. Many
stats and figures have been passed around throughout his international career, the most relevant
perhaps being that goalkeepers Rene Higuita and Jose Luis Chilavert have scored more international
goals than Villas striker.
England Keeper Robert Green may well have played his last World Cup Game for
England, but many top-class keeper's have made bigger blunder's and what about the
players around him these guy's fancied themselves as the best in the world before the U.S team gave
them a lesson on how to play a team sport.
siempre Ronaldinho.
The World Cup will kick-off tomorrow with South Africa v Mexico and the promise of the
ultimate accolade begins in earnest. Who will win this years tournament? Who will set the
world a light with their brilliance? Who ever it may be I just hope we see lots of goals, with
players behaving themselves on and off the field.
Continuing our series of World Cup compilation videos, this week we have every goal from the
1990 World Cup, which was, of course, held in Italy. Time has a tendency to soften our viewpoint of
previous World Cup tournaments particularly when, as with this one, England surpass everyone's
expectations and scramble as far as the semi-finals but the truth of the matter is that the 1990
World Cup finals were probably the worst that have been held in recent years.

This month I contributed my second piece to Goalkeeper Magazine. If you haven't heard about it,
it's a bimonthly glossy magazine and describes itself as follows:
Goalkeeper Magazine is designed for all goalkeepers across the world of any age and all
abilities. It is being produced with passion and love for the game, and the unique position of the
goalkeeper.
It's a small world these days and football is no different. Even a bumbling fool like me can
easily contact experts across the four corners of the globe at the click of a button. But details
of one man elude me. He goes by the name of Armando Paredes.
Colombian crazykeeper* Rene Higuita bid the football world adios last night with a star studded
testimonial game, featuring the likes of Carlos Valderrama, Faustino Asprilla, Leonel Alvarez,
Oscar Cordoba, Mauricio Serna and Victor Aristizabal. The 43 year old made a farewell speech, and
then showcased his favourite tricks as a team of '90s era Atletico Nacional [.
A follow up to last weeks advert from a few years later, the Honey Monster now finds himself a
reserve goalkeeper for Manchester United in a European fixture...
I'm pretty sure Peter Schmeichel should have been sent off for the foul, instead good ol' Honey
Monster gets subbed on and pulls off a blinder of a save Rene Higuita-esque.
NO 1: Ronaldo
Ronaldo, the Brazilian Forward from Rio, well known for putting his best foot forward in the World
Cup, surprised spectators when he appeared with a completely shaved head, except for a small
unsightly patch of hair over his forehead.
