Two of the top European 2010 World Cup qualifyers being played this weekend are the Russia vs
Germany match and the Portugal vs Hungary Match.
Russia vs Germany Preview
The clash between Russia and Germany at the Luzhniki Stadium on Saturday is probably the match
of the weekend, with both sides desperate to secure the top spot in their group and avoid having to
go to a play-off for a place in South Africa.

Dirty Tackle 22 September @ 07:13 PM EST
Sunday's match between Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen ended in a scoreless draw, but the
sell-out crowd of 30,200 the first sell out for Bayer's newly expanded BayArena still went home
happy thanks to a belly full of free food and beer.
The complimentary grub and happy juice wasn't some goodwill gesture from the club, though this
is the serious business of football, after all no, it was the result of the club's brand new
electronic payment system crapping out just before game time.

Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Carlos Tevez, and Emmanuel
Adebayor! Such is the caliber of each of these players that their involvement in this
summer's transfer market has left no spotlight for the lesser-known talent. Such is the nature of
the market right now that none of the European giants can be bothered with a move for the hidden
gems.

Following a busy season, Rafael Honigstein of The Guardian and Footbo was kind enough to talk
with me and address a few questions I had about the end of the season and the start to the silly
season.
Which player(s) surprised you the most this season?Â

Christophe Daum pulled off the biggest surprise of the early silly season, by quitting Cologne
to return to Turkey via Fenerbahce. I would love to hear Jan's input on this, but my take is that
it could be a sucker punch for the Billy Goats as they face the sophomore curse. Daum had a
somewhat iconic air at Colgne.

Finally Dusseldorf has come good for visiting dignitaries Bayer Leverkusen. After a poor run of
form in the league at the LDU, the Werkself took apart Bayern Munich 4-2 in their temporary home to
gain passage to the final four of the DFB Pokal. Klinsmann tinkered with his lineup a bit as [...]

Hoffenheim's coach Ralf Rangnick isn't nicknamed The Professor for nothing and this is his latest
creation: a combined striker/goalkeeper. With his fetish for "polyvalent" players,
Hertha's coach Lucien Favre must be green with envy. Anyone got an idea for a name for this beast?

What a teammate. Or former teammate. Since Jogi Low wouldn't give Jens Lehmann his international
swan song - deeming the fixture too important for team experience purposes, which is quite
reasonable - Rene Adler decided to take matters into his own hands by leaping six inches off the
ground and whiffing miserably at a cross [.

1-2-3 - Current ranking of Bochum, Cottbus, and Bielefeld on the "Anti-Fair-Play Table."

table as well, but this one's about "Anti-Results." All three are currently in the
relegation zone. Coincidence?

The future is now as Germany are hit by injury to Robert Enke. Not that I wanted any injury to
