Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has admitted to making errors in the transfer market but suggested he
had to take risks because of the precarious financial situation at Anfield. With the club struggling in the Premier League and their Champions League participation hanging by
a thread, Benitez defiantly defended the job he has done at the club, and claimed when all of his
players returned from injury, fans would see the best of them. Click to continue reading...
As we saw once again against Birmingham on Monday, Glen Johnson's best work this season continues
to come when he's playing higher up the field. Should Liverpool capitalise on this and convert him
into a permanent right-winger? In my view, the Birmingham game illustrated once again the occasional defensive lapses to which
Johnson is prone; his failure to push out quick enough meant Christian Benitez was onside when he
scored the equalising goal. Click to continue reading...

Early team news from the "Make Us Dream" website suggest that there is no place for Fernando Torres
who, as widely-reported, has hernia trouble. Instead, Tom suggests David Ngog will partner Dirk Kuyt upfront. Steven Gerrard may be on the bench, that would be welcome news for the Reds. Possible Team News: Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Insua, Reira, Mascherano, Lucas, Benayoun, Kuyt, Ngog. Click to continue reading...
No matter what happens from now until the end of the season, and whether we finish in the top 4 or
not, there are a number of recent transfer deals that bother me greatly - signings, sales or missed
opportunities that could've improved our squad and afforded us more depth than we currently
have. The deals relevant to last season may even have turned some of those nagging draws in wins, maybe
giving us enough points to have snatched the title from Man Ure. Click to continue reading...
Liverpool's hierarchy are piecing together a £100million rescue package to try to turn round a
season that has been branded 'a disgrace' by one of their own players. Anfield bosses hope to have the cash injection in place by January and will be eager to avoid any
delays after keeper Pepe Reina turned on his own team-mates and berated their Champions League
failings. Click to continue reading...
Everyone's doing a brand new dance now. C'mon baby, do the Kyrgiakos.
It must have been yet another very frustrating night for Liverpool supporters Wednesday night
after the Reds failed to win against Lyon in a 1-1 draw. The dreams of advancing in the Champions
League are quickly disappearing.
Liverpool only managed a 1-1 draw away to Lyon tonight which may not be enough to qualify for the
quarter finals of the Champions League. A depleted Liverpool team had most of the possession away
to Lyon and had a few good attempts on goal saved by the Lyon keeper, until sub Ryan Babel scored
with a magnificent thunderbolt shot on 83 mins to give the Reds a deserved lead. Click to continue reading...
Reina Carragher Kyrgiakos Agger Insua Kuyt Lucas Mascherano Benayoun Voronin Torres Goals: Babel 83' Lisandro 90' This season in a nutshell, except it's the first draw in 17 games. Ecstasy and optimism followed by
a kick in the teeth. A brilliant Babel opener off the bench, but a sloppy Lopez equalizer in the
90th after Liverpool couldn't completely clear late pressure, ending with a Bastos flick-on to
Lisandro, who out-muscled Kyrgiakos to beat Reina. Click to continue reading...

Liverpool face Lyon in the Champion's League tonight, but given the fact that Rafa has an injury
list longer than his arm; who do you think should play? The squad is as follows: Reina, Cavalieri,
Carragher, Ayala, Darby, Insua, Agger, Kyrgiakos, Kuyt, Lucas, Benayoun, Aquilani, Babel,
Mascherano, Spearing, Plessis, Ngog, Voronin, Torres. Click to continue reading...
Sorry its late this time. The Starting lineup from Liverpool's shocking game against Fulham. Reina,

Ryan Babel will jet back home to Ajax in January if Liverpool get £6million for the striker. Boss Rafa Benitez has stood by the Dutch flop, 22, and offered him a fresh chance this season. But his patience has run out and Benitez will listen to offers. Babel started the campaign in the first team but failed to respond to the manager's votes of
confidence. Click to continue reading...
Rafa Benitez's future at Liverpool has become even more cloudy following Fulham's determined 3-1
win at Craven Cottage. Liverpool picked up two red cards along the way as Erik Nevland's clever
goal proved to be enough for Fulham to grab all three points.
Bobby Zamora got things going for the home side in the first half, but his strike was quickly
cancelled out by a stunning Fernando Torres goal.
Little to say after what promises to be one of the most surreal thirty minutes in recent
memory.
Chronologically:
-Torres off, Ryan Babel on. Apparently uninjured. Maybe with the midweek Champions League
fixture in mind...but after that first half stunner, tough pill to swallow.
Andriy Voronin partners Fernando Torres in attack, While Degen and Kyrgiakos start in defence. Team: Reina, Insua, Degen, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Kuyt, Benayoun, Mascherano, Lucas, Voronin, Torres. Click to continue reading...
A typically youthful Arsenal Carling Cup side (save captain for a day Mickael Silvestre)
defeated Liverpool's mixed bag lineup 2-1 on Wednesday. It was obviously tough fourth round draw
for both clubs and ended in controversy when Alberto Aquilani, making his Liverpool first team
debut after coming on as a substitute, took an overhead shot at goal in injury that hit Philippe
Senderos on the arm.
Tonights Liverpool team to face Arsenal in the Carling Cup at the Emirates Stadium: Liverpool:
Cavalieri, Degen, Insua, Skrtel, Kyrgiakos, Plessis, Spearing, Babel, Kuyt, Voronin, Ngog. Subs:
Reina, Aquilani, Benayoun, Darby, Dossena, Eccleston, Ayala. Arsenal: Fabianski, Gilbert, Senderos,

Well we were sweating over the fitness of our two key men, obviously one has recovered quicker than
Rafa thought and the doubful Gerrard isn't fit enough to start today. I've been told the team is as
follows: Reina, Johnson, Agger, Carragher, Insua, Kuyt, Benayoun, Lucas, Mascherano, Aurelio,
Torres. Click to continue reading...
This was a game that Liverpool had to win and for over an hour looked like they could do so. Then
Lyon equalised and you sensed that something dramatic was about to happen. Sadly, it did and now
Liverpool have a huge task in their hands to qualify. They have done so in the past under similar
circumstances but this time it looks too much with two very good teams in the group. Click to continue reading...
I have no idea why Yossi Benayoun was substituted by Andriy Voronin. This has been Rafa's blind
spot this season - the easy dismissal of the one player who gives Liverpool its best chance at
crafting goals in the absence of Torres and Gerrard.
Also, the equalizer by Maxime Gonalons was achieved with 9 Liverpool players in the box who
milled around clueless as Reina fell third time unlucky.
Reina Kelly Carragher Agger Insua Lucas Mascherano Kuyt Gerrard Benayoun Ngog Goals: Benayoun 41' Gonalons 72' Delgado 90+1' And you thought Saturday was a low. Ha. It got worse. It can always get worse. In addition to Torres, Johnson, and Riera, it seems Gerrard should have been ruled out as well. Click to continue reading...
Manchester United fans travelling to Anfield to watch their team play Liverpool at the weekend will
be searched as normal as stewards look for beach balls. Red Liverpool beach balls have sold out from the Anfield club shop, with staff suspecting United
fans are snapping them up as they plan a 'tribute' to the goal Darren Bent scored for Sunderland
against the Reds at the weekend. Click to continue reading...

Liverpool v Lyon Tuesday 20 October 2009 Anfield, Liverpool UEFA Champions League Kick-off: 19:45 UK (20:45 CET)
Liverpool go into this Champions League game on the back of three consecutive defeats and are
looking rattled. Lyon too suffered their first defeat of the season but seem to be in better shape
mentally than their more illustrious Champions League opponents.
As the headline suggests Rafa will make three changes to his team to face Lyon assuming the captain
feels he is fit enough to play tomorrow night as he still felt the groin in training today.
Currently the team is as follows: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Insua, Kuyt, Mascherano, Lucas,
Benayoun, Gerrard (if fit) and Ngog. Click to continue reading...
But at least it's good business for the club shop, eh?
Obviously the inflatable entertainment will be a talking point for years to come, but it's hard
to say that Liverpool deserved much more than they got. In fact, I completely agree with Steve
Bruce's assessment:
"I thought we deserved it, I hope that's not just going to be the headline.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has brushed off his furious touchline clash with Liverpool manager
Rafael Benitez, following his side's 1-0 victory at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats further dented the Reds' fast-fading title hopes, thanks to a controversial Darren
Bent goal, his eighth of the season flying past goalkeeper Pepe Reina after taking a wicked
deflection off a beach ball that had been thrown on to the pitch by a Liverpool fan. Click to continue reading...
Controversies played a major part in the game, as Sunderland came off strong at the Stadium of
Lights against a Liverpool side, which was without the services of Steven Gerrard and Fernando
Torres. It took the Black Cats only 5 minutes to grab the lead, as Darren Bent got the back of the
Reds net, as [. Click to continue reading...
Sunderland's 1-0 victory over Liverpool came courtesy of Darren Bent's freakish eighth goal of the
season.Darren Bent's strike hit a balloon which diverted it past goalkeeper Reina. While it was a
freakish winner, the outcome of the game is an accurate measure of Sunderland's progress made under
Steve Bruce. Click to continue reading...
