After just four first team appearances for Chelsea, with three of those coming from the bench, Sam Hutchinson decided to retire from football in 2010 after suffering a serious knee injury. This was a tragic tale of a youngster, highy-rated by his former manager Jose Mourinho, who had to give up his dream.

We were all disappointed when Sam Ricketts ruptured his Achilles last February. It's no secret that our squad has the depth of a kiddie pool, and Ricketts was starting to look quite good as well. Well that was four months ago, and while Sam has made a lot of progress, thanks to an interview with the official site, it's clear he still has a long way to go.

On a windswept day in Arizona after another preseason training session, Steve Zakuani reminisced.

"I remember my first year when I came in, we went down to Ventura (Calif.)," Zakuani said.

The injury that forced American defender Oguchi Onyewu to leave Wednesday's FC Twente match against PSV Eindhoven has turned out to not be serious.

According to SBI's Avi Creditor, who spoke to Onyewu on Thursday, Onyewu suffered a muscle injury in his rib cage that will require some rest and rehab, but he isn't expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time.

U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo is back in WNT training camp for the first time since undergoing major shoulder surgery last September. She's not diving or taking part in any drills, but she is doing quite a bit of rehab, doing some handling and lots of kicking. Sore she is, but also very happy to be back training.
