DTotD: Affectionate ref

Dirty Tackle 11 November @ 03:53 AM EST

In a match from Argentina's Liga Regional de San Francisco between Sociedad Sportiva Devoto and Rivadavia de Rio Primero, the referee showed a red card to a Rio Primero defender for his goal-saving handball in a way that was either very nice or very creepy, depending on how you look at it.

DTotD: Three reds

Dirty Tackle 06 November @ 03:46 AM EST

Sao Paulo managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw against Gremio on Wednesday despite having three players get sent off in the final 15 minutes. Of the three tackles that earned early dismissals, I think the butt kick/head slap combo (15 seconds in) would have to be the most original.

But if you want to see something that will make the above video look like bingo night at the old folks home, check out this clip of the MMA battle between the BYU and New Mexico women's teams.

DTotD: Keeper head kick

Dirty Tackle 03 November @ 02:43 AM EST

From the same game as yesterday's DTotD, we have Amauri's injury time act of frustration. He tried to be discreet about it, but in most circles kicking a goalkeeper in the face is frowned upon (as is tossing said goalkeeper's own teammate on top of him after the fact, though to a much lesser extent), so Amauri was shown a red card and may or may not have hoped that the referee would fall on the ground so he could kick him in the face, as well.

The Blues Maintain the Lead but the Reds Falter

goalpost.tv 01 November @ 05:36 AM EST
Bolton managed well in their match against Chelsea, until the dying minutes of the first half but Jlloyd Samuels challenge earned him a red card and a penalty for Chelsea and Lampard made no mistake converting it before the break. DTotD: A bit late

Dirty Tackle 30 October @ 02:33 AM EST

Celtic captain Stephen McManus earned a straight red for his waaaay late challenge on Hearts striker Andy Driver just before the final whistle in Hearts' 1-0 CIS Insurance Cup quarterfinal win on Wednesday.

The referee initially only showed McManus a yellow card, but then the assistant ref pulled him aside and side something to the effect of "Are you serious?

Khizanishvili Appeal Fails As Expected

Newcastle united Blog 28 October @ 05:44 AM EST
Khizanishvili's appeal for his red card against Doncaster had been rejected as we expected. Khizanishvili appeal not successful If you are going to appeal a sending off it seemed a mistake from the start to say you agree with the sending off, but that it shouldn't be the full 3 match ban. That sounds like honest [. Click to continue reading...

DTotD: He’s flying

Dirty Tackle 27 October @ 01:39 AM EST

From Saturday's Ukrainian SuperLiga match between Dnipro and league leaders Dynamo Kiev, we have Dnipro's Pavlo Pashayev sending Milos Ninkovic on a painful trip through the sky with a terrible high challenge that earned him a straight red. Even worse? His teammates actually had the gall to argue the ref's decision.

DTotD: Did he kiss it all better?

Dirty Tackle 26 October @ 01:46 AM EST

Remember when you would fall and hurt yourself when you were little (as opposed to when you were insanely drunk this past weekend) and your mother would try and trick you into thinking your bruise or scrape was instantly healed by "kissing it all better"? Well, I'm pretty sure that's what the Fenerbahce physio does for Roberto Carlos (0:30 into the video above) after he took an Abdulkader Keita punch to the head in the 74th minute of Fener's 3-1 win over Galatasaray on Sunday.

DTotD: Grafite slap

Dirty Tackle 22 October @ 12:45 AM EST

Wolfsburg stiker Grafite was shown a straight red in Wednesday's Champions League match against Besiktas for this nonchalant no-look backhand to the face of defender Ibrahim Kas in the 74th minute.

Had it not been for the cameras and the reaction and, you know, everyone seeing it right away I think he would have gotten away with the sneaky slap, too.

Video: Grafite slaps Ibrahim Kas

It seemed the CL was full of petulant players slapping one another. This time it was Grafite slapping Kas in the Wolfsburg vs Besiktas match. It got him the red card.

DTotD: Maradona’s savior

Dirty Tackle 15 October @ 12:44 AM EST

You would have to be a straight up mental defective to trip an opponent breaking toward goal WITH YOUR HANDS in the final minutes of a match with World Cup qualification on the line, having already been shown a yellow card. But that's exactly what Uruguay's Jose Martin Caceres did against Argentina.

It rained fire in Ukraine

Dirty Tackle 11 October @ 04:48 PM EST

In the opening minutes of Saturday's Ukraine v England match, England keeper Robert Green was forced to scurry out of his goal as the Ukrainian fans hurled flares onto the pitch. Once the threat of being pegged with a fireball and burning alive subsided, the unnerved goalkeeper promptly went on to earn the first red card for England since Wayne Rooney in the last World Cup.

Kagiso Dikgacoi sent off: the evidence

Craven Cottage Newsround 04 October @ 11:26 AM EST

Well bugger it. Is that a red card?  Is this stupid "you can't raise your hands" rule real?  Bah.  Clearly this is not a good thing for our new man to have done, but straight red?  Feel a bit sorry for the kid.

United Mania 03 October @ 10:19 PM EST

DTotD: Bizarro skunkhead

Dirty Tackle 29 September @ 12:35 AM EST

What's amazing about this clip isn't so much the bad tackle or the retaliation from behind that earned both Grenoble's David Jemmali and Auxerre's Ireneusz Jelen red cards, but the fact that Danijel Ljuboja still has that ridiculously unsymmetrical hairstyle that he had way back during the 2006 World Cup.

Jose sent off, shuts up

Dirty Tackle 20 September @ 04:45 PM EST

Jose Mourinho was shown a red card for dissent after arguing that Cagliari's Davide Astori should have received a second yellow card for a foul he committed in the second half of Inter's 2-1 win today. As you would expect, he went out with a flourish, but after the match he did not reappear to continue his tired in front of the media.

DTotD: Crotch kick

Dirty Tackle 10 September @ 01:59 AM EST

After setting up Chile's first goal by conceding a penalty kick with a blatant trip just before halftime, Felipe Melo was shown a straight red early in the second half of Brazil's eventual 4-2 for planting his boot square in Alexis Sanchez's crotch.

If it doesn't seem so bad at first, the multiple, slow motion replays should get across the testicle smashing horror of his actions.

DTotD: Bye bye

Dirty Tackle 07 September @ 02:48 AM EST

Although the video quality looks like its from the 1980s, it's actually from Saturday's Peru v Uruguay match. In the final minutes of the game, and just after Peru scored what would be their late winner, Uruguay's Diego Godin decided to get stompy when going in for a tackle, which caused a hot-headed Juan Vargas to jump to the defense of his teammate and start a scuffle.

VIDEO: Kanoute is a mean dude

DTotD: Kanoute draws blood

Dirty Tackle 01 September @ 11:57 PM EST

Sevilla striker Frederic Kanoute must have been in a foul mood on Sunday because he didn't seem to care much for his opponents' well being. First, he delivered an elbow to the head of Valencia left back Bruno, opening a wellspring of blood and earning a yellow card. Then, just before halftime, he came in with a high challenge, which got him sent off.

Arsene Wenger’s Diet Now Consists Entirely of Sour Grapes

The Offside: Manchester United 31 August @ 07:53 AM EST

Boom! And a pun to start the week off right! Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger is alleging that Manchester United are guilty of playing "anti-football" and also that Sir Alex pushed him down on the playground and called him names.

The Most Obvious Red Card Ever (Video)!

Caught Offside 25 August @ 06:47 AM EST

Sometimes getting sent off by a referee can be a contentious issue. Perhaps a player is wrongly adjudged to have committed a professional foul, or a keeper did in fact touch the ball before the man and therefore should not have been shown a red. This on the other hand is the most blatant red card offence you will ever see.

Bolivian flying head kick!

Dirty Tackle 25 August @ 02:28 AM EST

Sunday's Bolivian league match between Oriente Petrolero and Blooming turned intensely violent just before halftime when Sergio Jauregui of Blooming retaliated for an elbow he caught from Oriente's Leonardo Medina during the run of play an act which earned Medina a red card by executing a sickening kung fu kick that would even make Jean-Claude Van Damme jealous on Medina as he headed for the tunnel, leaving him unconscious.

Sunday League Football US Style: This Guy Doesn’t Take a Red Card Well (Video)!

Caught Offside 21 August @ 11:34 AM EST

Thanks to the fantastic Dirty Tackle for this. Really not sure he deserves a red card for the little push he gives an opponent but for the foul mouthed rant he totally warrants some kind of punishment, perhaps he can serve as a referee for a week then he can shout "You Motherfucker at all 22 players on the park".

Since the theme on Fridays is irrational anger, I figured this would fit nicely. Pretty sure he shoved that guy in slow motion, and the rant aimed at the referee following the red card is pretty fantastic. Especially the way he changes vocal inflection when asking the same question repeatedly.
