Our favorite bearded wonder is bringing his merry little band to Giants Stadium! (Hey, Lalas
always said he would bring a World Class Team to New York? Am I right? Fellas?)
And it looks like the former English captain and Spice Rack owner will be joining them! And from
the looks of it, dont expect an entrance at the 78th minute .
Ok. Time for a cold shower. The season didnt end at 5-4.
This WILL be difficult for me, but oh well. Its my virtual job.
Todays Topic : In light of "The Game of the Year," and with nearly three quarters of the season
already in our rear view, we have had more than enough time to analyze our Designated Player
acquisitions.
I never thought that the Minnesota Thunder would come up TWICE in a week on a Red Bulls blog . .
. but here we are.
Arena and Company are looking into Mr. Francis Doe, formerly a player in Greece with extensive
time in the USL, to fulfill our dire need for a forward. (thanks to IVES)
Wait . . . . what?
Well, here it is - nine goals - an MLS record for this year.
From the NY press release:
Transaction: New York Red Bulls sign midfielder/forward Francis Doe and place
midfielder/forward Santino Quaranta on the season-ending injury list.
Francis Doe, who has been training with the Red Bulls for the past month, was most recently with
Greek Super League side Atromitos FC for the last two years.
Played in front of 66,000 fans, and featuring no defense whatsoever, the Red Bulls finally won a
big game beating the LA Beckhams 5-4 in an all offense show. Bucking the trend that they play awful
in big games, NY showed up and played entertaining attacking soccer but almost lost a game they
should have won because of awful awful goalkeeping from Ronald Waterrus.
I offer this poignant quote from Back To The Future 3(awesome movie btw) to one Jozy Altidore, who
according to a writer at Yahoo sports, is the future of US soccer. I happen to agree with him that
the 6'1 175 pound 17 year old, could in fact become the world class striker that
american soccer fans have yearned for so long.
