Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes says that his side cannot afford to drop any more points if

Barca were held to a 0-0 draw against Villarreal on Saturday, a result that now leaves them
seven points behind league leaders Real Madrid, who recorded a 3-1 win over Real Zaragoza at the
weekend.
It's been 7 days since the beginning of the Dragon Year – and here we are 7 points ahead of Barca
in the league table. Our 3-1 over Zaragoza and Barca's 0-0 (their first scoreless game in 15
matches) made sure of that. In a league where the margins of error between a league title or a
bridesmaid finish is a hairline, 7 points is gold – it gives us that all-important precious
margin for error: to account for that somewhat inevitable match that will see us drop points
against a Levante, Sporting or.

It is looking more and more likely that Real Madrid will walk away with the La Liga title this
season. A 3-1 win over Real Zaragoza at the Santiago Bernabeu yesterday coupled with Barcelona's
barren draw with relegation threatened Villarreal pushed them 7 points clear at the top of the
table.
Barcelona might have won the latest el clasico, but it is Real Madrid who are threatening to run
away with the La Liga title.
Real Madrid are now seven points clear at the top of the Liga after their 3-1 win over bottom
side Real Zaragoza while Barcelona's poor away form continued as they were held to a scoreless draw
at Villarreal.
Barcelona's Copa del Rey semi-finals win against Real Madrid has been tempered by a growing
injury list that will make their clash against Villarreal on Saturday harder.
Andres Iniesta and Alexis Sanchez both limped off in last night's 2-2 draw, which secured a 4-3
aggregate win.
That means Barca will head to El Madrigal missing six players in total, as David Villa, Ibrahim
Afellay and Andreu Fontas are already injured, while Seydou Keita is at the African Nations
Cup.
Less than two months ago Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane were combining on a game-winning goal
that helped lead the Los Angeles Galaxy to an MLS Cup title. Today, the two will square off on the
other side of the planet as Donovan's Everton and Keane's Aston Villa do battle.
Manchester United will look to keep the heat on Manchester City by knocking off Bolton, which is
awaiting a work permit for newly-acquired defender Tim Ream.
Inter Milan seems to finally have found its form, and after winning five straight matches and
outscoring its last two opponents 9-1 and getting Wesley Sneijder back from injury, the club faces
bitter rival and first-place AC Milan with a chance to make a statement in Serie A.
The Milan derby is the highlight of the weekend slate across Europe, one that also includes an
Aston Villa-Everton game that will be of interest to U.
Football resumed in Spain after the short winter break, and it did not take long for the first
upset of 2012 to occur, as a late equalizer from Espanyol in the Barcelona derby dented Barca's
title hopes.
Real Madrid started off 2012 like they ended 2011, scoring goals. This week Madrid beat Granada
5-1 with Karim Benzema scoring twice and Cristiano Ronaldo hitting his 21st league goal of the
season.

Real Zaragoza have appointed Manolo Jimenez as their new coach until the end of the season.
Jimenez replaces Javier Aguirre, who was dismissed earlier this week with Zaragoza rooted to the
foot of the La Liga standings having lost eight of their last nine league games.
The 47-year-old Jimenez, who will be presented on Sunday evening, has spent most of his career
at Sevilla, representing the Andalusian club as a player from 1983 until 1997, then becoming
reserve team coach for seven years until 2007, when he took over as first-team coach for three
years.
Javier Aguirre has been fired by Real Zaragoza terminated, the La Liga club confirmed on Friday
morning. Zaragoza are bottom of La Liga, having lost eight of their last nine league games.
A statement on the club's official website www.realzaragoza.com read:
"Late last night on Thursday, December 29, Real Zaragoza reached an agreement with Javier
Aguirre for the termination of his contract as first-team coach.

League action resumes this weekend with some very exciting fixtures across Europe. In Italy
defending champions AC Milan face a tough away fixture to Fiorentina tomorrow in a match that could
see them on their current position 3 ranking.
However, all attention will be on the Juventus v Palermo tie and the Napoli v Lazio match.
After the international break, La Liga resumes this weekend with a big match between league
leaders Real Madrid and third-place Valencia at the Estadio Mestalla.
Coming off guiding Portugal to Euro 2012, Cristiano Ronaldo will look to pick up where he left
off at league level, after smashing a hat-trick in Real's 7-1 belting of Osasuna on November 6.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his fourth La Liga hat-trick of the season as Real Madrid easily swept
aside ten-man Osasuna 7-1 to move three points clear of Barcelona, who drew 2-2 at Athletic
Club.
Ángel Di María set up goals for Ronaldo, Pepe and Gonzalo Higuaín in the first half, with
Ibrahima briefly levelling the scores at 1-1 for the visitors.
Juventus has been the revelation of the young Serie A season, and with former AC Milan playmaker
Andrea Pirlo leading the attack and a defense that has allowed just seven goals in nine matches,
the Bianconeri look like a worthy challenger to unseat defending champion AC Milan.
If Juve is going to maintain its one-point lead atop the Italian standings, they will need to
beat a dangerous Napoli side today.

FELIZ LUNES! So these guys were forced to endure a dreary factory
visit last week, but at least Atletico Madrid secured a 3-1 win over Zaragoza last
night which leaves them in the middle of the La Liga table with 13 points! Of course, you know
their rivals Real Madrid are sitting right at the top like a boss, with
only one point separating them and Barcelona, following their close 1-0 victory over Sociedad.
The Major League Soccer playoffs will be in full swing today, taking center stage on a busy day
in the soccer world.
The headlining match of the day takes place at Red Bull Arena, where the New York Red Bulls take
on the Los Angeles Galaxy in the most star-studded playoff match in MLS history.
Gonzalo Higuain's first half strike was enough to give Real Madrid a slender 1-0 win away to Real
Sociedad and reclaim top spot in La Liga. The goal came in the ninth minute and was the perfect
response for Jose Mourinho's men who were temporarily dethroned at the summit of La Liga after
champions Barcelona [.
Surprise contender Levante and Real Madrid sat back and watched Tuesday as Barcelona leapfrogged
both teams to take the top spot in the Spanish league table. Both have a chance to strike back as
part of a packed Wednesday afternoon of soccer.
Between full slates of La Liga and Serie A games, there's plenty of domestic action to go
around, but cup play is also a big part of the day, as the remaining four spots in the Carling Cup
quarterfinals will be claimed by day's end.
MLS playoffs on Fox Soccer: Dallas - NY at 9pm. Serie A on Fox Soccer: Milan - Parma at 2:30pm and
Atalanta - Inter Milan at 4pm. Carling Cup on Fox Soccer Plus: Wolverhampton - Manchester City at
2:40pm and Stoke - Liverpool at 5pm. La Liga on ESPN Deportes: Real Zaragoza - Valencia at 2pm. On
GolTV: Real Madrid - Villarreal at 4pm.
Champions League action resumes tomorrow with some very interesting fixtures. Real Madrid host
Lyon at the Bernabeu while Napoli travel to Munich to face in form Bundesliga champions Bayern
Munich.
However, the match that could prove decisive in Group A will be between EPL leaders Manchester
City and Spanish side Villarreal.

As far as intense rivalries go, you can't find many more intense than the Rome Derby.
Roma and Lazio always produce some of the most intese matches in Europe, and today should be no
different as the Serie A powers collide. Both teams have gotten off to slow starts in league play,
and are currently tied on points, but today's derby could help catapult one of them up the
standings.
