There were amazing scenes in Spain last night, where third tier part-timers CD Mirandés beat La
Liga side Espanyol 2-1 in injury time at the tiny, 6,000-capacity Anduva Stadium to secure
themselves a 4-4 aggregate (away goals) win and a berth in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey in
the process.
What an amazing story Mirandes is. The club, stuck in the third-tier of Spanish football, came
from a goal down to beat Espanyol 2-1 in their Copa Del Rey quarter-final second leg and progress
to the tournaments semi-finals on the away goals rule.
Espanyol took a precarious 3-2 first-leg lead to Mirandés tiny stadium in Miranda de Ebro in
northern Spain.
Wow what a comeback!! Espanyol scored three goals in four minutes to snatch a dramatic 3-2
comeback win at home to third-tier Mirandes in a King's Cup quarter-final first leg on Tuesday.
Mirandes have been the Cinderella team of this years tournament, having already knocked out La
Liga sides Villarreal and Racing Santander in the early rounds.
FC Barcelona continued with their winning streak at home in La Liga with a very hard fought 4-2
victory against an inspired Real betis side. The match started very brightly for us going 2-0 up
within 12 minute, then turned into a nightmare when Real Betis equalised early into second
half.
Real Madrid need a late winner from Jose Callejon to beat Real Mallorca and ensure they
continued with their amazing streak that has seen them win 3 fixtures since their infamous 3-1 home
loss to Barcelona.
Madrid do not seem like letting go of the top spot at least for now and though their arch rivals
Barca are yet to play, a win for the Catalans will only bring them to within 5 points of
Madrid.

It's fair to say that Real Sociedad 'keeper Enaut Zubikarai had what's known in technical terms
as a 'stinker' last night. With his side 2-0 up from the first leg of their Copa del Rey tie with
Real Mallorca and going one-nil up in the second leg after 16 minutes, Zubikarai then conceded four
goal in the space of seven minutes before half-time.
Real Madrid set up a potential Copa Del Rey quarter-final against FC Barcelona after a 1-0
victory against Málaga earned the Whites a 4-2 aggregate win.
It was a tense night as Malaga only needed a 1-0 victory in order to advance on the away goals
rule. In a very tactical first half the best chance fell to Sergio Ramos, whose header right before
half-time just missed the target.

Brolly bad luck The La Liga match between Granada and Real Mallorca was called off after an

immediately took all the match officials [.
A faulty umberella has been blamed for the abandonment of Sunday's La Liga fixture between
Granada and Real Mallorca.
Granada had just taken a 2-1 lead with about half an hour on the clock when the game was stopped
after a linesman was hit with a flying object in the face drawing blood.
Here are the results of the three SPANISH FOOTBALL matches played tonight as part of Round 12 of LA
LIGA. Sevilla-Mallorca REAL MALLORCA drew 0 - 0 with SEVILLA FC with the home-side letting off the
hook a low performing visiting team. Mallorca created multiple chances which they did not convert
into goal & they also kept finding Sevilla goalie Javi Varas who put in another extraordinary
Lionel Messi was the star of the show after he bagged his 2nd consecutive hat-trick as Barcelona
smashed Viktoria Plzen 4-0 to seal their passage into the last 16. Messi bagged another hat-trick
after hitting three against Real Mallorca on the weekend in a 5-0 rout, and the Argentine's
gigantic appetite for goals never ceases [.
Champions League action resumes tomorrow with some very interesting fixtures. Real Madrid host
Lyon at the Bernabeu while Napoli travel to Munich to face in form Bundesliga champions Bayern
Munich.
However, the match that could prove decisive in Group A will be between EPL leaders Manchester
City and Spanish side Villarreal.
A stunning late comeback from Malaga maintained their position at the top of the La Liga. The
Andalusian side were briefly knocked off the top by Valencia, but they defeated Getafe 3-2 to
reclaim pole position on Saturday.
Getafe led 2-1 in the 88th minute remaining courtesy of goals from Pedro Leon and substitute
Nicolas Fedor Miku, either side of Ruud van Nistelrooy's equaliser.

Former Danish international becomes the latest victim of a relatively recent trend of assistant
managers getting the boot rather the manager.
The former Arsenal midfielder thus follows Rovers' chief scout, chairman, finance director and
secretary out the Ewood Park door and one wonders if Steve Kean will be next.

In which profligate Real Betis pair Ruben Castro and Jorge Molina (the main culprit) conspire to
crack the ball off the woodwork three times in the space of three seconds, each from

A Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick helped Real Madrid get their La Liga campaign off to a perfect
start with a commanding 6-0 victory over Real Zaragoza on Sunday as they look to claw the league

Real coach Jose Mourinho warned that the opening weekend of fixtures often spring surprises, but
the game went according to plan for the Spanish giants and will serve as a statement of intent for
Barça who are in action tomorrow at Villarreal.

All three were targeted by Scottish champions Rangers and all three turned them down FLAT.
After securing their 54th championship on the final day of last season, there was an expectation
at Ibrox that it would just be a case of Ally McCoist stepping into Walter Smith's shoes at the
club and hitting the ground running.
Real Zaragoza have applied to the courts to go into voluntary administration in a bid to sort
out their finances.
Zaragoza avoided relegation on the final day of the season last month and have sought protection
from creditors while they put together a new plan to deal with a net debt of 110 million euros
($161 million).
Just Football: La Liga 2010-11 Team of the Season (minus Real Madrid and Barcelona) is a post
from: Just Football
So, now that the 2010/11 La Liga season is over, it's time to look back and pick out some of the
standout performers of the last nine months. However, in a cunning twist, I have decided that it
would be far more interesting if we just ignored everyone that plays for Barcelona and Real
Madrid.
Valencia ensured third place in La Liga and an automatic berth in next season's Champions League
when they drew 0-0 at home to city neighbours Levante and nearest rivals Villarreal lost 3-1 at
home to Real Madrid.
With one match remaining, Valencia have 68 points, six ahead of Villarreal, who are assured of
fourth and go into the qualifying round for Europe's elite club competition.
La Liga Lowdown, Jornada 27: Pellegrini's decision backfires on relegation-threatened Málaga is
a post from: Just Football
Things aren't looking good for Málaga, and this week coach Manuel
Pellegrini is the villain. Well, "villain" might be slightly harsh and probably sounds
like something straight from a Marca editorial, but it hasn't been the best of weeks for
the former Real Madrid boss, let's say.
