The Reading Fightin Phils are in the middle of their 50th season with the Philadelphia Phillies, and more recently the Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League joined forces with the Philadelphia Flyers.
As the Union prepare to host their second US Open Cup final, a look at Philadelphia-area teams in the final throughout the history of the country's oldest national soccer tournament, which has had local winners ten times since 1914.

While they may not know who they'll face, the Philadelphia Union, Harrisburg City Islanders, and Reading United all know when they're scheduled to start play in the 102nd Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Tournament. The tournament's initial pairings will be announced on April 8, with the Play-in Matches taking place between April 22 to 26.

The Harrisburg City Islanders have signed Barbados National Team goalkeeper Keasel Broome. The 24 year old from Claymont, Delaware was taken in the third round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes, but was released by the team after injuring his shoulder in camp.

Harrisburg made quick work of Reading United A.C. Wednesday scoring two goals in the first ten minutes and cruising to a 3-0 victory. Danny DiPrima opened the scoring with an assist from Cardel Benbow in the 8th minute.

Billy McConnell and Will Campbell have made quite the pair in the middle of Reading United's defense so far this season. The Union Academy alums have paired three out of Reading's four games so far this season, anchoring a defense that has not surrendered a goal.
Reading United AC's roster published on the PDL website includes seven Philadelphia Union Academy alumni.
Seven former Philadelphia Union Academy players and two others who play college soccer locally are part of the 28-man roster for Reading United's upcoming Premier Development season.

Maloney was the fifth pick in the third round and the 49th overall
Philadelphia Union Academy alum Connor Maloney was drafted on Tuesday by the Columbus Crew SC with the fifth pick in the third round and the 49th overall selection in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
Maloney, who will turn 22 in May, was on the Union team that won the 2012 Generation adidas Cup but did not qualify to sign a homegrown contract despite spending time at Reading United and training with the first team as recently as last summer.
Jimmy Ockford joins USL expansion side for 2017 season
Yardley native and former Seattle Sounders defender Jimmy Ockford will be back in USL for the 2017 season, signing on with expansion team Reno 1868 FC.
Ockford, 24, made only one appearance for the Sounders first team after being drafted 21st overall out of the University of Louisville in 2014 while making 13 appearances for Seattle's USL team and 10 appearances on loan to the New York Cosmos in the NASL.
For the second season in a row, Reading United has landed another prospect in the annual PDL Top Prospect list. Last year, former United defender and current Philadelphia Union starter Keegan Rosenberry found himself high on the top prospect list. After finishing his senior season at Georgetown, Keegan was selected with the 3rd overall pick in the 2016 MLS Super Draft by the Union.

Sunday May 15, 2016 saw the 2016 debut for Reading United A.C and LVU Sonic at Goodman Stadium on the campus of Lehigh University. Reading scored early in the game and held on for a 1-0 victory. Below is a selection of my favorite images from Sunday's action.

We already knew that Brendan Burke is the head coach and that he'll be joined by Reading United head coach Stephen Hogan as well as former Union Academy coach Jeff Cook. Now we can add three more coaches to the staff.
First will be Dave Peck, who is being brought on as the athletic development coach for Bethlehem Steel.
