After an amazing cup tie and a full week off it's time to return to the real business of
Premiership football with a visit to The Liberty Stadium to take on Swansea.
Swansea Town was founded in 1912 and changed it's name to Swansea City in recognition of the
town being granted City status in 1969.
Whilst browsing the comments on AA a few days ago I was quite taken by an exchange between FGG
and GN5 about the importance of football. How important is football and in particular Arsenal to me
I asked myself? Pondering the answer I could only come to one conclusion.... " A hell of a
lot".
Ray Kennedy heads title winner against Tottenham in 1971
I suppose it all started in the early seventies when as a kid my old man used to take me to
Highbury and I would sit on his shoulders.

Today all Gooners must do their duty. They must recall the greatness of the past and temporarily
cast aside the divisions that recently have weakened the Arsenal Faith. If you feel that you can't
then let me try to get you to understand why you support this club. What ever your age, I want you
to recall the Arsenal Legends for whom a day like this was the day to sweat blood for the
cause.

Imagine the consequences if Arsène actually did do such a thing today, no doubt the sky would
fall on his head. But that is exactly what happened to Bertie Mee the then Arsenal manager as he
left a restaurant in Rome after an Inter City Fairs Cup, first leg tie against Lazio.
As Arsenal supporters we have many great anniversaries to celebrate.
There was May 26th 1989 – Micky Thomas scoring in the closing seconds to clinch an improbable
title away at Anfield. The sight of 40,000 thieving Scousers whining about being robbed was karma
on a cosmic scale.
Or how about May 3rd, 1971, when a Ray Kennedy header made us champions of England – an
achievement made all the sweeter by the location of our triumph: that's right, that large public
convenience in N17.
The more I see of Raul Meireles, the more I like.
He is a player used to playing at a slower tempo in Portugal and who is having to come to grips
with the hustle of the Premier League.
But he is quickly figuring it out and is getting better for us by the week.
Most encouragingly, he has just added a couple of important, not to say spectacular, goals to his
game.
