“I Always Thought The Fan Base Could Be Monetised”: Craig Whyte Speaks To The BBC

Poor Craig Whyte. On the day he chose to give his version of the Rangers saga to the BBC, former Rangers joint administrator Paul Clark beats him to the "biggest Rangers lie" of the year trophy. Clark offered a dictionary definition of dishonesty and irony in his statement on Wednesday that he and David Whitehouse, his colleague at financial services firm Duff and Phelps, had achieved their "primary statutory function" as administrators of RFC 2012 PLC, the company which, under its former title ‘Rangers Football Club PLC,' ran the club.

Rangers: Promises, Promises

Charles Green bought the business, assets and – according to some, but not all, of paragraphs in last week's report to creditors from administrators Duff and Phelps – the history of Rangers Football Club for a pittance in June. But he's really paying for it now. "New Rangers'" placement in Scottish Football's fourth tier means that what Channel 4 journalist Alex Thomson last week called the "voodoo economics" of old Rangers is part of that history.

Scottish author, Robert Louis Stevenson of Treasure Island fame, penned a novella that many consider to be a foundation stone of modern fiction's addiction to substances, transformation and death – The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Which Way Now For Scottish Football?

While the European Championships have been chugging along neatly in the forefront of most peoples minds over the last couple of weeks or so, football in Scotland has reached a crossroads, the ramifications of which could be felt for many years. The saga of Rangers FC and the debate some might even say argument over where The Rangers, the club that has emerged from the ashes of perhaps the biggest financial collapse in the entire history of British football, will start next season is now set to drag into July, with the distinct possibility of reaching a conclusion that will satisfy absolutely nobody whatsoever.

Rangers: An end of sorts

Nine minutes.

Not a long time.

But that's all it took for creditors to reject a CVA proposal and condemn Rangers to liquidation.

Before those nine minutes: months of uncertainty and years of greed, lies, broken promises and charlatans running a historic football club into the ground.

Rangers: Newco or no go?

The Scottish Football Blog at related • 0 views
A liquidated Rangers start life again as a newco. The Rangers Football Club.

Rangers are no more.

Not quite, of course. The football team - its home and its training facilities if not its players - has a new owner in a new corporate structure.

For now ownership lies with a consortium led by Charles Green.

The New England Revolution and Houston Dynamo have a long history with each other. The two rivals met back-to-back years in the MLS Cup final (2006 & 2007), with the Dynamo edging the Revs in both contests.

The rivals are once again in competition against each other, this time for the services of Glasgow Rangers winger Sone Aluko.

Okay, let's get this out of the way quickly, before we move onto altogether more relevant matters. Joey Bartons sending off at Manchester City was a pretty stupid piece of behaviour, for which he has been severely punished. There. That wasn't so bad, was it? Bartons media profile has a tendency to overshadow everything in its wake up these days, but this does his employers something of a disservice.
